  1. but the whole point is that winning an individual GP isnt the main thing - its an added incentive only. I'd much rather that than the alternative that someone winning all rides and failing in the final gets less points than someone who scrapes through to the semis but wins the final. id also disagree that riders are happy to follow the leader in the final - id say that onlt happens if they have a close rival also in the final, coming behind them. Seem to recall Woffy pulling out a stunning from the back win in a final last year and finals typically are hard fought affairs.
  2. and as a viewer i enjoy the semi finals and final. it adds tension and excitement. no issue from my side with gp winner potentially being the 8th highest scorer, ultimately that's not important, the main aim for riders getting the most points towards the title. i think current point system is perfect, would be very disapointed if they tinkered with it.

  4. isnt that in essence exactly the same as scoring 4-3-2-0?
  5. ok. line up of worst riders to finish in each position world final in the 80s, limiting to only 5 from the continental round. 1. Egon Muller 2. 7. As an Aces fan, in the same era as me, you probably didnt see him ride much. He missed the 1981 Poole BL meeting, and also the 82 Eastborne meeting. He had a couple of rides in the 1981 test match at Hyde Rd, but missed the 1982 test. So the only full meeting (well, nearly) I saw him ride was as a guest for Reading in 1982, where he scored 3 points from 4 rides i think. I did always rate him though, as his high average in 1982 meant had a high grade in Speedway Scene board game, in which I endlessly replayed the 1982 season as a speedway mad child! Wiki states he retired due to the death of a friend, which I assume may have been Denny Pyeatt? In world championship, seems the closest he got to making it out of the Amricn final was in late 1979 (1980 qualifiers) where he fnished 4th after finishing last in run off. Not sure why he didnt ride in it in 1981 or 1982. I didnt realise he was part of the 1980/1981 WTC squads where US finished runners up, nor that he should have rideen in 1979 world pairs but got stranded at heathrow (according again to wiki).
  8. and far from being the top hl trio that season. penhall gundersen grahame and ross morton collins definitely stronger. and you could argue olsen, knudsen, shirra or sigalos cook eriksen were comparable. none of those sides had a bottom.three as weak as eastborne though, albeit Cradley had equally rubbish reserves.
  9. much better would be that the pair who have scored the most points through the meeting win. so one team will go to the final knowing they need a heat advantage to win. still, this is an improvement on last time. and if it goes to a run off we wont be able to blame woffy for not team riding in that...
  10. Mason Wear and Mason Wear. the rider and the sponsor.

  19. I think its pretty clear noone is confused in that regard, given that Greg Hancock hasn't made any lists but others such as Lucero, pyeatt and Alan Christian have? Unless you are implying mike bast would have filled all ten slots if this was a greatest riders list.
  20. BLRC 82 is available on DVD but the quality of recording is very very poor. As an Aces fan 82 is my favourite year of that era. And the last year when all the sports big names remained..before u lost Penhall, Olsen, Sigalos, Sanders, carter, lee etc over the subsequent years.
  21. The only test at belle vue they met each other in was 82. At least one of the two times they met in tgat meet is on YouTube I think
  22. Andrew the 18th october fixture vs dead leg was actually 1987! Would u happen to have the results for that?
  23. Why am I not surprised to see the great mike bast on this list speedy?
