very interesting. Once I've completed my rankings for the 80s (I keep almost finishing, then finding another way that the methodology shouold be fine tuned), I'll have a look at doing say 1966, and see how a statistical ranking system compares with a subjective listing such as the Speedway star ones. Do you know how the Speedway Star rankings align with the forum consensus decision on the "who would have won a GP series" thread? evidence perhaps that Tai is Britain's greatest ever double world champ? Peter Collins I'm sure would have topped such a ranking system in 76 & 77. Tai would have topped it surely in 2015 (certainly well atop my stat based rankings for this year), but maybe now in 2013 (I had him second behind Hampel, but a subjective list - esp by British journalists - may have had him ranked top)? (though I believe only about 5th in the Dolgin rankings for this year, which seems far too low, and 2nd in 2013).

very interesting post Gustix. Did Speedway Star publish these for any other years? Do you also have a list of the Stenners rankings from earlier years? And any idea how the rankings were calculated?

El Averages Weighted To Take Into Account Riding Position
waiheke1 replied to SCB's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
List of riders, with their "weighted" average per SCB as a % of their CMA for team building. Have excluded riders such as Pedersen, Stead, Michelsen who roder only a handful of matches. Have assumed also that all reserves (excl Howarth) come in at the higher of 60% of their PL average or 3.00. As can be seen, there is only one reserve ranked far higher than all the others, showing one side clearly benefiting from the ruling around PL conversion. In fact, that riders side will be the only team in which both reserves have a greater than 100% "value." No need to name the team obviously... Conversely, Belle Vue have been the hardest hit, with S Worrall the "lowest value" of the tier one reserves at 90%. It also shows what great value some of the most maligned (when people are discussing team building) riders are - PK, Lindgren, Batch, North, Andersen all appearing near the top of the list - and showing also what a farce it would be if those riders are not classed as HL for team building purrposes. 1 Rory Schlein 141% 2 Peter Karlsson 128% 3 Fredrik Lindgren 126% 4 Peter Kildemand 125% 5 Scott Nicholls 124% 6 Kyle Newman 121% 7 Dakota North 118% 8 Andreas Jonsson 118% 9 Ashley Birks 117% 10 Chris Harris 117% 11 Troy Batchelor 116% 12 Grzegorz Walasek 116% 13 Niels K Iversen 115% 14 Maciej Janowski 115% 15 Nick Morris 114% 16 Matej Zagar 113% 17 Hans Andersen 113% 18 Edward Kennett 112% 19 Jason Doyle 112% 20 Lewis Kerr 112% 21 Chris Holder 111% 22 Tobiasz Musielak 110% 23 Mikkel B Jensen 110% 24 Kenneth Bjerre 110% 25 Piotr Swiderski 108% 26 James Sarjeant 105% 27 Craig Cook 105% 28 Adam Ellis 103% 29 Lewis Blackbird 102% 30 Richard Lawson 102% 31 Joonas Kylmakorpi 102% 32 Charles Wright 101% 33 Ricky Wells 100% 34 Jason Garrity 99% 35 Danny King 98% 36 Josh Auty 97% 37 Stefan Nielsen 96% 38 Robert Lambert 95% 39 Josh Grajczonek 95% 40 Davey Watt 94% 41 Kyle Howarth 94% 42 Kacper Gomolski 93% 43 Kim Nilsson 93% 44 Szymon Wozniak 91% 45 Vaclav Milik 91% 46 Steve Worrall 90% 47 Stuart Robson 90% 48 Nicklas Porsing 89% 49 Max Fricke 88% 50 Grzegorz Zengota 88% 51 Paul Starke 84% 52 Jacob Thorssell 84% 53 Josh Bates 77% 54 Lewis Rose 69% 55 Ashley Morris 68% 56 Simon Lambert 67% 57 Eduard Krcmar 43% -
Seriously? Using the death of your mother to make a point...? Wow.

Tai Should Never Ride For Team Gb Again
waiheke1 replied to robert72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
By "act British", do you mean tai shouldn't win? Would that be sufficiently British? -
Sgp Challenge 2016, New Formula ?
waiheke1 replied to Navigator1900's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
All the decent riders from those nations race in the top European leagues though, as none have a domestic league of any note -
Yeah I agree you are probably right, my post was more hope than expectation. Any guesses on the 3nd reserve then?
-
I have yet to see anyone personally attack you on here though? (The bloke who took the p out of your visual impairment was out of line - but otherwise people have only debated your posts. You keep saying you are for good debate, but get defensive like this anytime anyone challenges any of your posts As a side note, did you eventually warm to Mike Lee? He was superb in poole colours.

It's fine for you to not like cook. It's fine for people to ask you for your reasons. Same applies to Jacques. Its not a difficult concept, but you seem to take it as a personal attack every time anyone queries anything you post.

I think they said there would be 12 tier one with those not picked in first round available to be picked in the second. Admit it seems unlikely we will get him though
-
Hopefully r worrall now as second reserve?

National Speedway Stadium Opening Tickets Now On Sale

Sid must have knocked some sense into you? -
Blackbird had an excellent 86 season, that evening being the highlight. Looked like he would really kick on to be an England regular, but didn't happen, his average falling by over 2 points the following season and never hitting those heights again. Iirc correctly he was under 23 at that point, so really strange that he didn't kick on.

Better at the Shay. But the best rider of that era at either track. Not sure he could have ridden in the same team as pc and Mort, but maybe if not for the demise of both kc and Hyde rd he could have been signed in the late 80s? But possibly I only thought him better at the Shay because Mort was better at Hyde rd? I only saw kc beaten once at the Shay by an ace (pc), whereas round Hyde rd mort had a 50/50 record against him. Nice idea for a thread though Sid, always prefer your speedway discussions to your boxing ones

Ok I assumed u meant people on here, but you mean people outside bsf? So u agree no one has done that on here?
-
Care to name even one person who has done that? Or is this another statement that cannot be substantiated? It's a free ride, when you've already paid...

Pawlicki would also make 4hl. Those potential teams r exactly why the 3hl rule was brought in (assuming it is correctly put in place)
-
Cook or shamek would make it 4 hl. Lambert would be an excellent signing

Honesty? Truthful? Accurate? black fly in your Chardonnay Starry?
-
it's the concussion after his prize fights with oldace and arson. he will be ok soon, don't worry
-
Why would u have to sign a second string with an average of under 6.5?

iirc, a rain off after 6 heats meant no refund. i'm sure just a coincidence that the meeting managed to make it just to this cut off point.
