Yep he handed the 82 bl title to the aces by missing the last heathens meetings. Thanks Bruce!

Yet you are happy to quote as "fact" things you read on here?
-
And that differs from the current aussie individual championship how?
-
How would that be better than the current system of running six different meetings which riders can qualify from? Who would go to watch these extra meetings, and how would it be better than the current system? What it should be IMHO is the top "x" from the aussie final plus those who have met the required averages . Top 4 from state is ludicrous

Reserve in poland/Sweden top flight is tougher than racing as 2nd string here. Can't believe that anyone thinks mads is a bad signing

I'm pretty sure that England were guaranteed one spot, as every other world final that era the host nayion was. It wasn't classed as seeded though, simply the top placed rider from that nation was guaranteed a spot *so in 84 Anderson just needed to finish ahead of Blixt in the inear continental final). That was a different method to the one iris alludes to, which was used in the 70s and prior. If just one spot, surely more would have been available through the other qualifying rounds, as per 81 onwards? In which case he could well have qualified anyway.
-
Tbf it's a pretty valid summary of the side IMHO. Batch rather than north would have made a big difference. Poole and bv look stronger, with KL and swindon looking likely to join them in the playoffs.
-
87 kings Lynn? People complain about sides not building to the limit for next season, that side was built with only one rider on a 6+ average and 8.5 points short of the limit of 45pts (Inc bp).
-
You really think the standard of riders was significantly higher in the 50s and 60s than today? On what basis?
-
Various meetings in Australia is exactly what is currently used?!?
-
If they name a decent number one then that is a good line up. Hard to see a top 4 of anything other than Poole bv KL and swindon
-
Swinton or eastborne 83. Halifax 84 after carters injury. Exeter 84. All weaker Exactly. I'd take Freddie over him, but not bech or joonas.
-
Main issue is who would pay to watch these meetings? What happens when riders pull out of the 2nd half of the series as they are out of contention? And would such an approach really get the ok from UKVI?

Shows that King and watt should not be hl no matter what way you look at it.

Good News For Western Springs, New Zealand
waiheke1 replied to a topic in International World of Speedway
Good news not just for speedway but rugby league as well, assuming this means the council's ridiculous plan of relocating both sports has been stopped. Would be great if bill b would now fund a couple more GPS, October to coincide with Melbourne would be perfect, though weather pretty iffy in October, and not sure he's prepared to lose more money on GPS -
Yeah there was one who disputed the accident taking place, and nobody took him/her seriously as it was blatant trolling. Several did dispute whether the granting of facility was appropriate, given that the injury was reported to be life changing rather than life threatening, and the timing of the facility. Would add that josh g is an odd signing, not that it is bad per se but in that it seems to prevent Swindon signing a genuine 3rd hl. Michelsem being mentioned and would be good, but could have been paired with a better rider than josh.
-
Would u sell the 83 overseas final by itself? Is that the full meeting?
-
That won't last long I wouldn't think:But I would say cook vs watt as hl is +2 to bv but worral v Hans is -4. Cook v Hans is equal, worral v watt -2. Same outcome

Play Offs Should They Be Scrapped.?

It gets pointed out that you are the Worst. Flange. Ever -
Poole are stronger than the Aces IMO, but expect Belle Vue and Swindon to be battling for the other spot in final at this early stage. I think Zagar, Cook, Nicholls is almost inseperable from Holder, Andersen,Buzz. Fricke and Kurtz very similar. Watt however is clearly stronger than R worrall, And Newman/Ellis a stronger reserve pairing than Worrall/Boxall. Overall, I'd say that Poole team looks stronger by a couple of points, but more than happy with the Aces line up.

Are There Any Characters Within The Sport Anymore?
waiheke1 replied to steve roberts's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
No, I don't feel people condone those actions, but my point is those riders are held up as "characters" from the past. And despite the fact that no-one even then condoned riding drunk or under the influence, it's fair to say the Morans/Cook were regarded as "fun-loving Americans," People reminisce fondly about riders getting on the lash with fans after meetings. Whereas today, riders ttaking recreational drugs and getting hammerred (to the extent of missing the odd meeting due to it) woudln't be accepted. Carter was always the ultimate love him or hate him character. And certainly even on here there have at least parrtially defended his actions, stating things like the murder of his wife was "a personal matter", or attacked though who label him a murderer. -
Or blackbird beating Hans three times in one night the same season

really? The Moran brothers are generally regarded as "characters." Cowboy Cook also. Kenny Carter likewise. that would seem to disprove that theory -
Play Offs Should They Be Scrapped.?

in this instance it was that 2+2 does not equal 5. The Pl model. So that would be six fgure weekly salaries, 30k+ all seater stadiums, multi million/billion dollar sugar daddies, 30+quid tickets for standard league matches, having worldwide merchandise outlets, holding out for 8 digit (per club) annual tv revenues etc. You are rght, I can't possibly see anything that could go wrong with speedway trying to use that model, I'm quite disapointed that Belle Vue didn't build a 60k seater, are charging only a few hundred quid for season ticket, and only paying 3k per meeting for their best performer - drop Mort a note, maybe they can change their business model. I assume in this brave new world, riders would no longer wear helmets, as perhaps that is the secret to the FA PL success, and not the league structure. Kyle Newman had the right idea. I'd suggest also that you let the NFL know that the Super Bowl should be cancelled, as they are using a failed model. Let the IOC know they should be suing a league system to determine medalists. Sepp is moing aside, so nows the opportunity to stand for FIFA president and get rid of the world cup and replace it with a league event. Champions LEague - failed model, get rid of those knock out rounds and final - commercial disaster or what! I'll get onto the NZRFU, and tell them that the current Super Rugby model is perpetuating mediocrity. Sorted!
