  1. 80s glaring omissions are Jan o, Lee and Jessup and probably Peter Collins. Kennett Davis Peterson no way should be on that list. Personally would have muller as well and not Schwartz and Crump No Jan o in the 90s either?!?
  2. The bl in 86 was a least as tough as the early 80s. Yes it was missing penhall carter Lee siglos sanders . But it had also shrunk to 11 teams, which meant a greater concentration of talent. When I get time I'll add in detail my thoughts on this debate. But in summary if you look at 80s alone I would say S moran siglos ermolenko, but there are valid arguments either way. Over whole careers though there is no doubt that ermolenko comes out top, I think BWitcher analysis shows that. Ermolenko certainly isn't in the top 10 of all time, probably not the top 20, but almost certainly in the top 30 and zero doubt whatsoever top 50. Look at his achievements, and he has to be regarded ahead of the likes of carter S moran siglos etc. It's whether he is above the likes of other one time champs like Lee Jan o and Jonsson which is more Debatable ( I would say no, maybe, yes, but on achievements alone he would be too of those).
  3. Not sure I agree. Olsen and pc were top notch riders, fancy them to have taken a couple each (Olsen maybe a 3rd) and Lee one in 79. Maurer may have won 7, but don't think any more than that.
  4. Have to say you learn a lot on the bsf, I didn't know what a "top" was until this thread!
  5. I know that was what you meant But that can't be the case either, starman has stated that you have a thing going with SCB, and as has been conclusively proven time and time again starman is never wrong...
  6. He's already changed it once, so it must be possible...
  7. I think the line is "not that there's anything wrong with that"
  8. You are right, SCB is clearly a homophobe and should be forced to change the thread title...
  9. Lee Jonsson Jan o Havelock from around that era did not .
  10. Same thing? How many people on here are scbs customer base?
  11. Bast of course is one of the top 20 riders of all time, and in 77 was still close to his peak..
  12. did he really say that last bit? If they really couldn't work our my a suitable average conversion formula between them then who are the thick ones?!? Shows also that they utterly failed to understand the issue they were meant to be fixing! Would be interested to know what they think they achieved.
  13. My memory of bill Barrett is that he, along with mark crang, is one of the two worst riders I ever saw live.
  14. Muller would have had a decent chance of qualifying whatever the method. 81 at wembley he finished ahead of the likes of Lee Morton Nielsen. He was a class rider, but he never would have won the world title under a gp system thoughm
  15. Kosta Lucero pfetzing ingels McConnell Christian?Tbh I wouldn't call Gresham or Faria stars either But I think to come to the UK from California, you had to be pretty good to justify sacrificing the Cali lifestyle. Plus they had to achieve a 6pt average to get a work visa. Most of the yanks rode Hyde Rd so well, I'm still annoyed that the two we signed were Kosta and ingels. So many factors in the 80s though - loss of wembley and many other tracks, including iconic ones like hyde rd white city and the shay, premature loss of a range of genuine superstars etc.
  16. But speedway crowds were already in big decline by the 80 which was the era of the "glamor Americans." I have numerous programmes and Speedway stars from the era where declining crowds are alluded to, and the underlying causes are largely the same as today. I don't think you can correlate the decline of the yanks with decline of British speedway. The Americans were clearly the big crowd pullers of the era, loved the England v usa tests of that era though with the likes of penhall siglos and the moran up against kc mort pc Lee Jessup etc
  17. I very much doubt that penhall was paid for his interview in the carter book. And as for his column in backtrack, the publisher would have asked him to comment on carter. In summary: Man kills wife then orphans his children by killing himself. Other man is asked for opinion on first man, and says he strongly disapproves of these actions. People get all upset about second man's comments. Seriously! ?!
  18. Tbf no one is saying Newman shouldn't have been penalized, just that he wasn't cheating.
  19. And that that makes no sense to me. It's not like they can be hurt by it? And before you mention their families, kcs actions hurt them far more than any words anyone can utter. Do you apply that rule to all murderers? Personally, I don't think dying exonerated people from what they did in their lives.
  20. He was asked a question he gave an honest answer. "No comment" doesn't make for much of an interview for a book, or much of a magazine column.thought you'd appreciate someone giving an honest answer?
  21. Look at the field for the aussie champs. Half of those are only Pl standard.
  22. And of course he was subsequently denied,by a drunk driver, the chance of seeing his son Connor grow up. Out of interest, how much respect do you have for the Paris shooters? Given the chance would you not happily knock them "into the frigging granstand"?
  23. The difference is in other sports the club is contracted to pay the player regardless of whether they play or not. AFAIK clubs don't pay riders if they are not named in the squad for the season. Clubs would soon stop hoarding riders if that were the case
