British Final Belle Vue June 13th.
waiheke1 replied to Sidney the robin's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Would pc have won at Gothenburg in 76 if he had to race Off against simmmo Crump and Maurer? Maybe, but I doubt it if he had gated fourth. Same with say mort at Brandon in 83 up against Lee Carter and Graham. -
Should Tai Woffinden Ride For Team Gb ?

Put of interest, did puk have to compete in a qualifying meeting the day before a gp to reach the Danish final? Does he already have bikes in Denmark or did he have to ship some there specially? -

No I thought if batchs average came down, you would have enough points to swap Kerr for a reserve and be under the limit. But looking at the averages, you are way over 40.5. Can't see how you'd get him in tbh. -

Maybe I'm just a traditionalist, but in a one off meeting I'd rather the title was decided by top scorer over 20 heats. If u could do that despite gating badly, you'd deserve to win. -
Sincere apologies I somehow got u and bv72 muddled. Both aces fans with a number in your username is my only excuse. My bad.

Agree 100%. No clear favorite, a brand new stadium and super race track. The Brandon finals of 70s and 80s had excellent fields and cut throat competition for qualification spots, but certainly was more a Gaters track than a racers. This should be an excellent meeting. -

What I mean is over 20 heats, if u miss the gate you are normally up against only one other title contender and have a better chance of coming from the back to the front. In the one race to decide the title though, the chances of coming past three top riders is pretty low. I have zero stats to back this theory up though! -

Surely batchs average must keep coming down on current form? How many does Kerr not fit by? -

Agreed. But the fact roscoe was allowed to use reserves indicates the ref must have deemed the injury to be sustained during the meeting and hence irr must also gave been available.I guess most riders race with some level of injury being carried, so guess it's a tough one to establish whether the cause of a rider being unable to complete his rides occurred during or before the meeting. -
Predict people will say he is in vintage for when help is at reserve and 2nd string, then say he is past it when he struggles as a hl. Predict people will say he is in vintage form when he is at reserve and 2nd string, then say he is past it when he struggles as a hl.

Because I had issues downloading the file on my phone so couldn't check the rules. But someone has quoted it elsewhere, and agree it is quite clear. It's because the whole point of the hl list should have been to make sure teams couldn't lead up on riders with artificially low averages and ensure riders with artificially high averages were still employable.Trying to spread the 24 "top" riders like this achieved very little Imo. Either way, it probably had little impact on team building, Poole as usual built the strongest team, Leicester built a rubbish team, and most of the rest found they were a genuine heat leader caliber ruder shirt as there simply were not enough interested in riding in Britain. And the three hl rule lasting only to may made it a farce anyway. -
On paper the aces should get close to 60, but they gave been a mixed bunch this season so it could end up being close. Interested to see how Bridger goes. I'll go 53-39 to the aces. More track time for the aces brits ahead of the British final can only help them.

Yes. But Gordon pairman's post tbh showed he failed to fully understand the issue either Imo. Regardless of who jon cooks comments were aimed at, the logic used for the list and rules around the list were fundamentally flawed, and to accuse people criticizing the list or process of being thick was hypocritical in the extreme. Aces51 - have u been as vocal when people accuse Greg Hancock or hampel as being boring? Fwiw I'm not sure I consider any rider boring on track, but see nothing offensive about people saying they do - particularly in this case where it was clearly at least partly tongue in cheek.

Nothing in those irrelevant rules suggest you can't use the irr facility for an aggravated injury rather than a new injury. So looks like an inexcusable stuff up from rosco. Anyone tweeted him for an explanation? -

Pretty sure arnieg checked the regulations and could still be used if rider had had two or fewer rides. Scb can probably confirm? -

Arnieg on another thread said no. In which case a major blunder by Rosco not to use it. -

Nicholls cook lambert Harris. Can't help but feel the "final" system counts against poor gaters . Worrell and garritty to be in the top 6. Shame Bridger isn't in the line up, he potentially could have been in the mix. For those top four, possibly this meeting determines which three join tai in the swc line up? Aces fan but would quite like to see lambert earn the Cardiff wild card spot -
It's actually a surprisingly sensible and seemingly soundly worded change. The only issue is if the refs don't implement the two minute rule correctly, for example masters the other week.

That's an almighty f up from Rosco then, quite possibly cost them the meeting. I presume he's on twitter has anyone asked him why he didn't use that option? -
The issue wasn't that Jon cook called fans thick based or both. It was that he did so defending a list that showed the bspa had spectacularly failed to grasp the nature of the problem that the hl list was meant to address, particularly when the issues the heat format would create were pointed out by posters such as scb two years ago when it was revealed.I doubt scb would have had an issue if Jon cooks comments were justified, as let's face it some fans ARE thick, biased or both (one in particular springs to mind 😂)

Pretty sure tai went on record earlier in the season saying as well as a single race night some tracks would need improving before he would come back -

This isn't the benefit of hindsight, myself and scb argued it at the time. There shouldn't have necessarily been 24. It should have been based on riders who rode mostly at hl last year and thus had artificially low averages. The whole concept of a hl list then becomes even more flawed when it is disregarded from may onwards. -

Correct. Swindons edr outscored Leicester comfortably, but Starke would clearly have scored more from reserve. Kurtz scored 10+1 from 4 non reserve heats prior to heat 15, so clearly had the beating of all the robins riders bar Doyle. Had he an stake swapped positions doubt scores would have been much difference.Though you do wonder how much impact the confidence boost of an easy first up win impacts on riders Agreed. Have to say that Leicester team had no riders you would consider a genuine hl let alone a number one, but a good effort from them. This season is reinforcing that king and watt should never have been on the hl list. -

Is there a rule about how many rides a rider can have had before that ceases to be an option?Inexcusable if the rules do allow him to have used it. -
