  1. Sold to you by whom? Social Media? I was involved and it was never at any time considered, or touted by us a done deal. We were up against a £400k offer and a notoriously unpredictable Council who had gone against us in the past. What part of that would make us think it was a done deal? Anyway it’s water under the bridge now, but I just wanted to put the record straight. It was not a planning issue and we were shouting to raise awareness, not celebrating prematurely, no matter what the internet chatter told you.
  2. The Edinburgh situation wasn’t planning related. The ‘brochures etc’ was a campaign to drum up support within the community and local businesses and encouraging locals to canvas their Councillors to support it. At no time did the Edinburgh management consider it a done deal. They went to great lengths to produce a viable presentation for the Council. There was a £400,000 offer on the table from a business man and the community project from the Monarchs. The local council were initially supportive, but ultimately they decided to take the money. A lot of people bust their asses trying to make this happen and to have it end the way it did was a massive disappointment. To dismiss those efforts as ‘shouting off’ and ‘hadn’t even got planning permission’ is a cheap, uninformed shot.
  3. It was the Scottish Open, a meeting that’s staged every year and was scheduled this year to be the farewell meeting. It would have been staged even it wasn’t the final meeting at Armadale. There’s enough to be cynical about in Speedway without making stuff up.
  4. How the time flies as you get older. When Rory first came to the UK, he was living in digs with my mate and we’d drive him everywhere until he got himself organised. He was a shy, quiet, homesick young kid with his wire rimmed specs, then he got on a bike and he turned into a gladiator. I too think he’s got more in the tank, but he knows best. It just seems like yesterday. There’s nothing but love for Rory at Armadale. Well done Poole and commiserations to Glasgow. The two best teams all season.
