How many times was he used as a reserve replacement and against what opposition? You can go on and on but watching him ride, he was riding as a heat leader, just from the reserve position, and no one can prove either way whether he would have dropped his average or not. Regardless, still took a massive effort to win the league with r/r and the other injury issues they encountered along the way. Were by far and away the best “team” last year, regardless of Ulrichs form / injury

Too easy to say because he was at reserve is the main reason for his high average. He maybe got one easy ride in heat 2 but after that would have ridden against the remainder of the oppositions team. I watched him beat jack holder round the showground by about the length of the straight and not many riders ever do that. No one knows if his form would have continued but the way he was riding, it would have taken a dramatic loss of form for his average to drop significantly. not sure what you mean by 1 meeting as a heat leader scores 5 points as he rode at number 1 away to Sheffield and scored 11 from 4 completed rides winning heats 11,13&15…..

I’d take Nicholls at reserve. Showed enough at the end of the year to be a trump card away from home. Lacking at the showground but can win you meetings away from home.
