  1. i think you're being a little unfair on Bewley. Before he had his crash. he was scoring very well in Poland. The same league as Lambert was in. He gave Lambert a good run for his money in the British Final and had a few good meetings in the world u21 world finals beating good riders along the way. That crash he had last year has stopped the progress he was making, but if you have natural talent like he has, then I'm sure he will get over it.
  2. Steve, I've just had a look at all British Finals throughout the 1970's. The only final you would have qualified if you finished 11th was the 71 final, where you needed to finish in the top 12. The rest of them were either top 4 or top 5 except for 73 final (8th) 74 final (10th) and the 79 final (10th) As for not winning a race and still becoming world champion. Unless I'm mistaken The there have been only three world finals between 1949 and 1994 where riders have scored 12 and even then I would imagine they would have won at least one race!
  3. So what you're saying is.' Let's weaken the product so the best teams can't win.!! Well I'd have to say you're right, as was proved last year.
  4. Would you not agree, that the standard has dropped quite a bit though? Not at GP level or Poland and Sweden. Both leagues seem to be of high standard. I'm not sure why, but if you look at the British Final for example. It's been turned on its head. You must remember how hard that meeting once was. For a 2nd Division rider to make it was a truly great achievement. Unfortunately now. The field is made up of 2nd division riders. Yes doubling up is a factor for this, but Some of the riders appearing in the final would not have made it past the first qualifying round! Never mind make the final!
  5. Maybe the cup final should be played a little earlier in the season then. That way there could be a little leeway for the meeting if either team had too many injuries. Not much creditability is there, when The No1 at Poole lifts the Premiership play off trophy as a Pirate. He then rides in the Championship semi-final with Glasgow. Then a couple of days later he is riding for Somerset in The Premiership cup final.
  6. and last nights farce of four guests riding in the cup final at Kings Lynn. So do the winning guests get a medal?
  7. Yes i thought they look good as well, Simmo and PC wore them as well. My favourite leathers, were the ones PC wore in 77 the Castrol ones.
  8. I would agree 100%.... We all had our favourites when growing up "PC was mine" I am a London lad, so the only time i got to see him was at Wimbledon and the big meetings at White City. I like you, love watching the top riders of today. Theres no doubt these top riders of today are just as talented on a speedway bike as the big guns of yesteryear. "just different eras" I think a lot of us oldies, do look back with rose tinted glasses. We had bigger crowds, bigger leagues and when you look at the state of British speedway today compared with then, its rather easy to get defensive when it gets criticised. The British league of the 70's imo is the equivalent of the Polish extra ligua today. If they were only 8 teams back in the 70s like there is now in Poland. Could you imagine how strong it would have been. Unfortunately I think British speedway has run its course as an out and out professional sport. A massive shake up in the winter is the only thing that can save it.
  9. I think it was more to do with the Danish Speedway federation and him falling out........Not quite sure as to why though
  10. What i find ridicules is that both leagues seem to be at the same level. Why then do we have two leagues, with nearly all the same riders bar a few. Surly now is the time to make one big league. At least it will stop the ridiculous sight of riders riding for two teams. Maybe then the sport will start to recover a little.
  11. How many superlatives did Tatum use to describe Poole in that last heat. Very embarrassing for commentator who is suppose to be neutral!! Talks absolute cods wallop
  12. It is a shame Robert has not decide to move up with Lublin. The young Aussies, Holder, Kurtz and Fricke all ride in the top league over there and i'm sure Lambert could hold his own if he were to join them. He rides in the top league in Sweden. Which has a lot of the riders that ride in Polish top league and he holds his own there. So not sure why really.
  13. Just prove there was a lucky world champion. Of course all the riders wh No you're completely right i will exit left. I usually have a good laugh reading your posts, so thats what i will carry on doing.
  14. Your arrogance has no bounds. of course you don't speak drivlel you only state facts lol
  15. Thats the funnest comment you've made in two days. People in glass houses spring to mind!
  16. Have you ever been wrong. I would find that surprising
  17. No i give up because i find you're very childish. You seem to know everything, but in reality you know nothing. Arrogance is not a nice trait, But you have it abundance. Go and play with your mates.
  18. I give up, you have battered me into surrender with so many facts which i might add are all correct 'in your head anyway. I bow to your far superior knowledge of the sport and bid you good night.
  19. But the argument for your side of the debate 'not you personally' State that certain riders were lucky in certain years to become world champion because they did not dominate the qualifying rounds and as such were not the best rider of that year, but they just like TW done enough to get to the final and performed on the night when it mattered. Same mind set different format
  20. It was a a Kent club meeting. Reg i think had quite a bit to do with the meeting. I remember youth riders riding after or before meetings on the grass track bikes at Plough Lane as well.............. That was such a Long time ago!
  21. Most young British riders who rode speedway in the 80's did junior grass track iris 123. Being an old Dons fan, do you not remember a Junior grass track held on Tooting Bec common back in the late 70's Both Luckhurst boys rode that day
  22. Nothing has changed really, This program was from the Junior grass track championships 1978
  23. Thats quite a broad statement to make. I know plenty of riders past, who would disagree with that statement
  24. You are entitled to not to like my post. Of course that is what the forum is for, but for you to abuse me is totally different. As i said earlier, you don't know me so please don't call me names. Lets end this little discussion now if you don't mind. I don't have to defend my opinion to you or anyone else. My opinion is my opinion. Nothing more nothing less. There are lots of posts i don't agree with, but that is the posters opinion. I can challenge it if i want, but I would certainly not abuse someone for there opinions. Thank you
