  1. no they wouldn't have to double their crowd!!!! they'd be paying the riders less because the riders wouldn't have to shell out for daft exprensive kit the point people are making is that the bikes dont matter - but the teams and riders do massive vans and 5K bikes? The sport can't stand it - except at GP level they can ride BSA Bantams for all i care things started to get out of hand when 4 valvers came in and it gets more out of hand every bloody year
  2. no but it helps us understand where the appeal of the sport lies and it has never been in the technical stuff for me which is why it is the one area costs could be cut - fans don't care about miles per hour jus close exciting racing. Find the cheapest kit possible to achieve this and charge £10 at the door..
  3. these comments are totally spot on
  4. the idea is sound - you don't want teams running away with matches because unlike football that's rarely entertaining however - double points is micky mouse and makes the sport look stupid tac sub is better but it doesnt have to be 6 points behind - it could be 7 or 8 or the tac sub could start 10 mtrs back or be given 5 second penalty (sits at tapes for 5 secs, or 3 secs or whatever) i think its inportant to have something to keep matches alive without being too advantageous to losing sides
  5. no i think it IS the answer - certainly below the level of grand prix
  6. I've been going on til I'm blue in the face about the need for the sport to reposition itself as a £10 sport and everything else tailored to achieve that - wages, costs, etc
  7. the thinking at one time was that speedway had to be weekly so that it was a regular habit. I'm not sure this is necessarily where we need to be now - especially in the elite league.
  8. i think attracting crowds for one off events is always simpler that week in week out year in year out. People would soon tire of this particular spectacle i think.
  9. wd be nice to see north east speedway fans united today with mild banter and no offence.
  10. i agree with the above poster - i like to think speedway fans are a notch above all the rubbish you get at football. Ritchie may be a forceful rider but we've had 'em in the past.
  11. I'm aware of that - I'm there - but its really really poor - this is supposed to be professional sport -
  12. "Bore off" ?? what kind of knob are you? and why did you change your id?
  13. Sir Jasper has totally nailed this topic - PL riders should really be semi pro at best (I know quite a few are). Crowds are similar to Conference North/South in football - they are semi pro Admission fees at that level of football are around 10/12 pounds and thats about right too Facts are facts - not enough money coming throught he gate to sustain professional wages certainly at PL level and do you know what - the speedway racing would still be as good as it is now
  14. you're right about darts but its one competition in one city - then on to the next - its not in the same place weekly marketing properly is probably the only way if price reduction is not realistic i've said it before but give people free tickets in return for their contact details and market to them - short term cost but long term benefit
  15. cinemas in the late 70s used price cuts as a way of getting people back theres been a boom ever since and most films are rubbish however price cuts can only work if the costs to promoters are lessened there are ways of doing that of course but the will doesnt seem to be there it all needs leadership and thats the problem
  16. what Alpha said a few posts back theres your answer
  17. the point i am trying to make is the sport is great for us - we love it - we wouldn't want too many gimmicks to take away what we love i agree full stadiums wd be great
  18. i wasn't saying it in the context of what you said it was just a comment - I don't want to be a part of something embarrassing - i rarely read your comments however the gentleman who spoke about admission costs is bang on the nail - but as you've said before you yourself don't struggle for money - so f everybody else
  19. we want the sport to flourish - thats clear from all the posts on here - we're all on the same side really but how much gimmick could we stand before the sport became embarrassing - many of us already hate the joker because it makes the sport look stupid - what would we put up with the american wrestling might be succesful but lets be honest its not sport its a circus - is that what we want?
  20. The actual darts play though is good quaity - yes its been packaged well but the core product is good Speedways core product - the racing - often isn't good and its not in a warm hall full of drunks shouting and singing! so you can see how one works and the other doesnt
  21. Once SKY bail out a lot of teams are going to have to cut their cloth drastically and we may lose tracks. The sad part is speedway lives in a different era to the majority of the population here in the UK. a comma after the word 'out' changes the whole meaning of this post and i think conveys what the poster means!!!
