  1. sorry i disagree - once a guest is in a team the fixture is little more than a farce as far as i'm concerned
  2. as soon as Lawson isn't riding for the Bears and a guest is used I'm not interested in the fixture, home or away
  3. I think you failed to detect the humour mate
  4. i don't see why it would - they would only get paid if they rode - you are still paying 7 riders per match admittedly some riders are on retainers, etc so yes an extra expense in that respect
  5. sounds good to me i would cap squads at 10 rather than 12 but otherwise whats not to like? even riders not racing in EL regularly would be prepared to be squad members - 10/12 meetings a year maybe however this solves only one problem - the issue of guests - it doesn't address the lack of crowds and resulting lack of funds to pay for a squad!
  6. work together - how? minimal clashes- how? perhaps if the EL clubs had a pool of du riders they could select the ones available eg 2 du riders per EL team - a pool of 4 or 5 PL riders they can call on allows continuity at PL level and EL level yes the EL teams wouldn't have the same 1 to 7 every week but every rider in the team would be from within their 'squad' there isn't a perfect answer
  7. semantics GB = Cowboy cookie hit the nail on the head
  8. not really - in order for speedway to be unified it has to be at an affordable level - EL seem to have no interest in this so your ire is aimed in completely the wrong direction - I'm sure PL would welcome any EL track BUT on its own, affordable, manageable terms. 200k loss at Eastbourne this year remember - god knows how much elsewhere
  9. When Tim Swales was Middlesbrough boss he used to say that riders could earn a weeks wages in a night from speedway - i suppose nowadays that would be 3-500 quid for an average blue collar job (North East, not Dorset or London), should be feasible from crowds of 500 - 1000
  10. so THATS why the crowds are staying away
  11. it was thought there wouldn't be enough riders to staff BL Div 2 in 1968 and 69 but look what happened - along came a generation of stars like Jessup, Kennett, Louis, Collins, etc etc look at the competence of some of the fast tracked riders in EL these NL boys are not useless wobblers - they just not world beaters yet thats who would replace them
  12. Why don't they use a temporary starting procedure on the back straight at such times
  13. I think we have actually once he learns to stay on Listen as far as I'm concerned the pl should be Brit only but it isn't so you do what you have to do What is the sense in flying people in from all over Europe to appear in front of 700 fans
  14. Konopka is an asset - Crang belongs to Coventry what would you do?
  15. we can't know that for a fact its just as likely to be cost, boring racing, bad overall presentation, etc etc
  16. "As Cityrebel has said, Jim Tebby beating Ivan Mauger was headline news. A second string beating a top rider today is anything but." i remember the fuss when Arnold Haley beat Ivan Mauger - and he was a heat leader!! I think there was a leader in The Times about that one
  17. at the risk of sounding like an old fart - those were indeed the days await your like TWK!
  18. no i disagree - what it says is that top riders met maybe twice a year and maybe sometimes only once during those meetings now they probably meet 6/8 times and more often during the meeting, especially with the intro of nominated heats
  19. we do not know that Lawson was wrong therefore we do not know of any offence i don't want to go on about it because the paramedic clearly had problems but i repeat that the statement does not refute any allegations so the chances of Lawson being punished or it ending up in court are nil and we should now move on people trying to 'score points' for their point of view and by extension their team are only exacerbating the situation. Move on if only for the sake of the individual with problems that are not our business
  20. the statement, although eliciting sympathy amongst those who might read it, does not offer any kind of refutation and clears nothing up. Having said that its probably best to move on.
