  1. i wouldn't say it had nothing to do with it but i do accept your main point entirely. for example, if a man is unemployed - the unemployment rate is 100 pc for him - if someone has had a pay cut as i myself have the revival of the economy is meaningless because I'm 150 lighter every month and my bills have gone up yes the product needs improvement but if sufficient people have been affected by fiscal problems that has an effect too going to a speedway meeting more than once a month would be impossible for me
  2. God help you when I said this I got roasted It's true though They need somehow to make bikes cheaper and riders need to go semi pro Crowds of 500 can't support professional riders And we need to stop flying people all over Europe to ride in front of sub 1000 crowds
  3. Teesside 43 Berwick 35 Graham Edmonds, who very soon after injured himself badly, was my first hero.
  4. i distinctly remember when we had 2nd halves the clamour to get rid of them and extend the 'meaningful' match heats from 13 to 15 i've previously advocated a national competition if they do return where points gained in the second half are accumulated for some kind of prize worth having
  5. I bet he does ride this year - there's always someone with an injury crisis
  6. slightly off topic i know but i couldn't let it pass - the crowds then were probably 4 or 5 times what they are now and yet riders are spending MORE on equipment now and also are often expecting to be full time racers with the attendant salaries.
  7. go away yes - the original question i was going from memory only but this and Arnieg's replies have satisfied my curiosity thank you for your reply it does show that these things go in cycles and that perhaps the current pre-eminence of Polish, Swedish and maybe Danish league racing may not last forever.
  8. If you or any of your slavish followers are puzzled about your unpopularity there it is right there Arrogance and hubris
  9. yes there were he's talking rubbish as per I can recall interviews in the Star but forget which riders saying they didn't want league matches on a sunday. Very little to do with Opec.and the Yom Kippur war and more to do with continental grass track, etc the response i was looking for was given by arnieg - before 1987 Swedish league matches were raced by Swedes alone it seems. Thats why i never heard of riders jetting off every 5 minutes
  10. yes i remember in the 70s the riders resisted Sunday speedway in GB (at least in Div 1) because this was the day they rode abroad i dont remember, for example, riders appearing in the Swedish league in the 70s though thats kind of what i'm getting at - i know they rode in open meetings, grass and long track etc
  11. my speedway life started in 1968 and i can not for the life of me remember British League riders racing in foreign leagues. Did they in fact do this? Or was the BL so busy and lucrative that this wasn't done. Or was it because there were there fewer full time racers? I ask this because on Facebook there is an old time speedway group and occasional photos appear of, say Ken McKinlay, in a Swedish team's race jacket. TWK I know you are a Facebook refusenik but you would love this group!
  12. "Who wants to ride in Gb next year? Ok you ride there, you ride there- you finish 1st, you 2nd, you 3rd, you 4th alright lads got that?"
  13. I'd be happy for pl to operate similar squad system as suggested for El Everybody gets a full team As another poster has said it's too simple to actually happen
  14. Yes I probably amSee cheeky cobras post too And Gordon bennets too
  15. There should be no doubling down just doubling up If riders want to ride pl they should sign for a pl club and double up if they want extra rides EL clubs could have a roster of say 4 double uppers from pl This would ensure full El teams and no pl absences Trouble is I don't know how we'd get to that position from where we are
  16. Maybe we should stop biting-he seems to have one or two apologists but most can see you meant no real offence For me I don't mind foreigners being restricted because I want British juniors to get a crack of the whip even if the pl is slightly weakened at first
  17. well Leslie Grantham's a murderer for starters!
  18. nobody is being racist you attention seeking twit TWK apologised for one slightly dodgy remark now shut up for Gods sake i'll tell you whats 'vile and arrogant' - people being silenced by PC bullies welcome to Rotherham
