  1. i was going to message you and ask if you'd seen them - i have recently just bought 5/6 back issues and it is fantastic = chances are i will buy them unless someone close takes the hint and asks santa. Its both a great read and a slightly sad one as GB speedway slips down the pecking order. Personally i think the closing of the gap between the top 2 divs will be a good thing but oh that 6 point idiocy!!
  2. this is a particularly uncomfortable subject for me right now! Be alright in a few days
  3. well crowd figures accross the sport certainly bear that out
  4. also they have mobile numbers to keep in touch with fixture news, offers, etc etc also the other post about increasing revenue - yes of course this is vital but any businessman will tell you cost control is first because that is the one thing you have some control over - you can't always dictate selling (ticket) price - that is largely dictated by the market (ie other things you can spend yr disposable income on)
  5. but they didn't miss any Diamonds fixtures and thats important - Hull could easily turn to others, Newcastle wd have been fkd without them.
  6. the change needed is radical but there are too many people involved in the decision process and i can imagine people pulling in all directions. The old gag about a camel being a horse designed by committee comes to mind. The sport needs downsizing in terms of expense but can you imagine how that will go down with some. I fear more fudging, more band aid solutions and another year of decline. Really really love to be wrong
  7. There ARE riders - they just need a chance, they'd soon develop just like they did in 68 and 69 when there "wouldn't be enough riders" to staff BL2- within a couple of years they were the backbone of the England team.
  8. open licence 64/65 at Cleveland Park - cried because it was too noisy. 1968 onwards though completely obsessed i once estimated I'd been to 500 or so meetings never saw one overtake (just kidding I saw 3) First away match WCQR at Brough Park (was the track red? - it is in my memory) Barry Briggs won, Jim Airey second
  9. once again great sense from Deano - i've said it before but he could run this sport - I'd certainly invite him to be part of a much needed independent body
  10. you got to a cup final for gods sake and you've had a competitive side for several years now - you want to try supporting 35 miles south. You are of course free to have an opinion but its pretty unreasonable
  11. the main issue isn't that you don't attend its more that you are sounding like a bit of an idiot
  12. surely there are individual threads for each club to cover this?
  13. they have to there is no alternative other than ruin
  14. if you ask me EVERYONE behaved badly that night - both footballers, the others trying to film and the girl too. However Evans paid a very heavy price but should now be free to carry on with his life. IMO there was some hysteria at his release - at least 2 pro footballers have caused death and been imprisoned - neither was subject to such a reaction on their release and played professionally again.
  15. we would have at least avoided uncertainty - very very few people could give a cogent economic argument either way. We all know the real reason Brexit won
  16. how well is the El doing? We'll find out when they try and persuade a couple of teams to make the jump up.
  17. I think that the only way forward is amalgamation at PL standard. Clearly some EL clubs will retain some pretty hot talent (prob not GP riders) but people such as Harris and Nicholls who would obviously score well in an amalgamated league but would be in teams governed by whatever average limit would work. Tracks should put the horse before the cart and budget before the season on realistic crowd figures, not hoping they will increase by some unfathomable reasoning. To be honest the clubs have to be stronger and stick to agreed budgets for the good of the sport as a whole. Of course it goes without saying that some teams will want to win at all costs – if every team had that attitude someone would still have to come bottom so whats the point? Yes some supporters would not attend due to big names not being there but others will come back with a more varied and interesting fixture list. allied to the above would have to be a concerted effort to maintain good tracks for good racing governed by more robust inspections and at least some local advertising. I’ve posted this before but a good marketing tool is to give away free tickets in return for email addresses and mobile numbers which could then be used to inform of forthcoming fixtures, team news, etc. Maybe a half price entry after six full price tickets like McD’s do with coffee. Of course the cost of being a rider has to come down but I’ll leave that to Deano or somebody to say how that could be done. There MUST be a way. Any businessman will tell you – controlling costs comes before anything – you can’t keep increasing prices to pay for increased racing costs.
  18. Poole will have no opponenents if they don't get with the programme. Economics very different to most other geographical areas. The sport needs Poole but it also needs Plymouth and Workington
  19. may inadvertently do the sport a favour - the EL in the main can't afford these riders but have to have them to be competitive. Would bring down the standard of EL slightly and costs significantly. Wouldn't make the sport any less exciting in my experience. Of course the EL snobs will throw their hands up in the air 'we need our big names': trust me you don't - you need the sport to survive first and foremost.
