  1. didn't the Courtneys try something like this and were stopped. Would imagine same would happen here. would take absolutely boatloads of cash to make riders go against BSPA/ Poland/FIM and be banned thereafter - would you risk it??
  2. definitely - if there is a top league next year they should sign a number 8 and 9 from the second level and use them and RR when people are missing - no guests, no DD just managed DU
  3. just read on fb that Poland is going to insist on riders performing in ONE league only next year we might just have some radical changes forced upon us
  4. agree - double r/r is crap - bring in NL no 8s
  5. with Brexit approaching it will be vv difficult to justify the number of non UK riders anyway so lets cut it all back to the wood and use either UK or UK committed riders despite the dilution of the league strengths. Prune it - it will grow back stronger
  6. the idea is to give away teams a reason not to throw the towel in half way through a mauling - that has to be better for entertainment perhaps a point for reaching a certain level away from home (or indeed at home if its an away team doing the mauling)
  7. for the record - my view is 'that's the money on offer - if you don't like it - see you" - find cheap engines, tyres, whatever I don't know anything about mechanics and if the whole sport is at NL or Div2 level thats fine. It will recover - new stars and names will appear given the chance. Yes we won't be big on the world stage for a while - just another price to pay for survival. one big league - you ride for one team only. Try to exist without a sign written van
  8. actually I have found you talk complete sense and should be a reference point for any such group the big big question is will the sport live within its means at the risk of diluting the strength of the leagues or will it insist on the big names which it can no longer afford in the hope that things will improve. Without a resolution to that there is no way forward actually I have found you talk complete sense and should be a reference point for any such group the big big question is will the sport live within its means at the risk of diluting the strength of the leagues or will it insist on the big names which it can no longer afford in the hope that things will improve. 9. the assets system would not stand up in court I'm sure of it - how about this riders are freelance (which effectively they are) sign 3 monthly contracts with a club with an option to renew, renewed at the end of the 3 month period or not if the team wish to make a change. This controls the chop and change farrago while keeping riders on their toes if you like and gives teams flexibility to make changes
  10. you're correct, you wouldn't, 50 or 100, but you would get an increase and that would be something to build on this overall lack of income should be compensated by lowering costs - machinery, foreign travel, etc - big ask I know As I said once before Newcastle get around the same crowd as Blyth Spartans or Gateshead on a good run - they don't fly footballers in from all over Europe time to get real and accept where we are in the entertainment pecking order, you could take yr other half for a meal or pictures for less than 2 tix for Brough
  11. Odsal had 37 k there for the final I saw. Not really an option now but there you had capacity and track suitable for major events. The RL team is up and down like a yoyo and must wonder about GP/WTC income it has lost.
  12. put them in their own pen, er I mean area of the stadium.
  13. yeah, i think he would be advocating a second half or junior match but thank u once again for your positive attitude by the way - i don't agree with him - we got rid of 13 heats for a reason
  14. i suspect hardly anyone uses public transport to get to some tracks - Somerset e.g.
  15. the great Bert Harkins has said recently 2 valve were fine and its all gone downhill since then
  16. maybe if the bikes weren't rockets (something fans don't give a toss about) then they could cope with less than perfect surfaces
  17. I think one or two things are moving in generally the right direction - I think its a massive thing but its time we prepared for life after GP riders. We need one British League and a NL but the BL would have to be cheap enough for Scunny, Worky, etc to be able to exist in it. In any case after Brexit it may be quite difficult to employ non UK riders while UK riders are available. There ARE enough riders IMO but there isn't we have to go to 6 man teams. It really is time to face harsh facts, however local heroes are popular - I've never supported a top tier side it was always div 2 and nothing gave me more pleasure than watching Wilcock, Dixon, etc - and they weren't world class but were loved by Teessiders
  18. there seems to be much housing around that site - more houses more nimbys - wish you all the best though
  19. yes i could see many of those riders opting out - big deal - the sport is bigger than them. When there was a big 1st division there were plenty of blokes who were virtually unbeatable - Briggs, Mauger, etc and plenty of reserves and second strings without a hope of beating them - didn't make it a bad sport. The top boys had 10 and 11 plus averages so that shows the disparity but it wasn't a problem - quite the reverse
  20. given that there'd be around 18 teams you can fit home fixtures in less than 5 months leaving enough time for cup matches, a pre season warm up. Not all Championship clubs would want to get involved IMO - the NL would then be around 12 or so clubs. We may also lose Lakeside and Swindon altogether
