  1. I agree but equally - they could do something about it use one of their conferences to work on reducing costs - easier said than done but necessary
  2. i would imagine publicising delicate negotiations would be something potential backers may not want. Its business, its private. If a deal is close i wouldn't say a word til it was done. However, if you have a contact why not just tell George - you can never have enough. As regards the riders leaving, tbh, and i speak as a Bears man, it was time for some new faces at Brough, one or two had gone stale.
  3. to paraphrase the old joke - you can make thousands promoting speedway but you have to start with millions!
  4. time to stop digging - the hole is nearly through to China
  5. to be fair it hasn't moved with the times - it was designed for the 13 heat days - I find it easy to understand but its another thing a newcomer might find odd
  6. sorry Gresham you are not understanding - however if we used the Swedish (I think) system of race averages there would be no confusion. or it could even be expressed as a percentage
  7. why dont we just try something different, you know, for a laugh, and stick to the topic - give the old abuse a rest
  8. thats good - and good for him - he needs some continuity expect him to sign for a D1 team but no clashes hopefully!
  9. no single thing will fill the stands but this is better. the thing that stops the stands being filled most of all is Poland and Sweden dominating the sport financially and being able to attract the worlds best we could try to attract big names but it would be financial suicide unless crowds tripled overnight and that won't happen all we can do is reposition the sport and try to develop UK talent. Track surface/ tyre interface research might be a good idea too.
  10. was always a Bernard Gent fan at Cleveland Park but Barry Wallace has always been top notch
  11. to be fair i think thats around what we do get
  12. absolutely = do they think promoters have a Teresa May money tree? I believe the idea is to make the teams closer with a view to making the racing closer - although i know that doesn't always follow, that i believe is the aim. Plus d2 sides can continue to use d1 riders without the horrendous fixture clashes
  13. when i watched at Cleveland Park loads of away riders moaned about it being a trick track but i saw amazing races on it and yet went to Halifax and Odsal plenty of times and the passing was at a premium when i was there.- obviously with good meetings too. My dad used to say proper riders can ride Cleveland Park
  14. if you had a limit of 20 there would be riders over 8 at the end of the season?? the rule does generally change annually i would think promoters would be glad to save the money. it looks to me as though the 2 leagues are being driven closer with a view to amalgamation later
  15. use a championship heat leader - prob just as good wish people would stop flapping
  16. well its hardly radical but a couple of steps in the right direction imo teams will always feel shafted when points limits are agreed - get over it DU/DD will be rife this year again but at least we shouldn't have too many clashes the conference will be remembered more for daft ideas jettisoned than new ones introduced
  17. at the beginning of this season I thought I saw green shoots - 3 clearly designated levels and good crowds early on. What followed was the worst season in my 48 years following the sport. It simply has to be upwards from here or fear clubs will start to fold like dominoes. I sincerely hope that if nothing else costs are controlled so that well established clubs, I'm thinking Worky, Newcastle, etc can not only survive but thrive. Yes crowds need to increase but in the meantime the hatches need to be battoned. Decisions need to be made that take into account both Poole and Buxton. We'll see.
  18. recent reports suggest that young folks are abandoning football too - mainly to do with cost admittedly. Apparently more bet on football than attend. I personally don't want speedway to turn into the circus of inebriation and loutishness that darts is.
  19. sado? That's much more sinister than saddo Is there something you need to tell us TWK? You must be masochistic arguing with him!
  20. i would think the bar and cafe takings are available to only the minority of tracks; KL, Redcar, buxton, Somerset mbe Plymouth err.... i thnk thats it edit maybe Glasgow, Rye House
  21. we did race Fridays in the 60s i believe - presume it wasn't successful Saturday 7 pm does me but Fridays ok too either way it'll need advertising and a big push
  22. well I for one hope you get your wish but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'm peed off that one league isn't even up for discussion - the very least they could do is consider how it could work my feeling is the top league will cream 2 or 3 teams off div 2 Christ knows what Redcar will do if we have to move nights - crowds 20 pc up this year - 30 pc down next could join the PL I suppose haha
