  1. the criteria is quite strict for non EU riders isn't it? Going to cause real problems for some second strings. Godfrey's list might not look too daft after all. I can see a points limit drop coming
  2. i notice the idea to change the sports name - what could that be? It is a bleeding nuisance that the Americans use the name for a different sport altogether.
  3. I think you're wrong pz, once upon a time all but the elite had jobs as well as riding, riding was a paid hobby for most
  4. there's about 600k Poles in the country, you'd think one or two would wander down to their local track
  5. i was making the point that Ken was supportive and the other fella wasn't, it was a hard enough game to try and learn without negativity
  6. had a few sessions at Felton - he was very supportive and encouraging. Mike Hiftle on the other hand......
  7. Philip, I buy Mojo magazine monthly. They run a seperate series concentrating on single artists such as Dylan, Stones, Kate Bush, etc. They use their own archive material Could the star not do something along those lines using your archive material. You could do specials on the big names and 'best of' given years with the most interesting stories from that year. The mojo ones go for. around a tenner
  8. behave - there's a list of British riders clubs may wish to consider if some non UK riders can't come. Surely there's enough Brexiters on here to understand that
  9. couldn't agree more THJ, total over reaction
  10. just seen that Mark Loram is being interviewed on a website and I wondered how he makes a living these days. Does anyone have any stories about what retired riders are doing now?
  11. twice as many meetings, the better iders who currently DU can score and earn well
  12. I personally wouldn't care if we rode at Div2 level with one big league with more local riders invested in their home club. We are like many other sports now where the power lies elsewhere, e.g. ice hockey, basketball, etc who have to rely on British talent and people who frankly are no longer or never were good enough in the best leagues. A parallel could be drawn with MLS football which is very successful using USA talent and lesser talents from elsewhere. Its true that people like to watch big names but that's no longer possible so we must emphasise the team aspect more. It no longer makes sense to fly people from all over the place to ride in front of 1000 people, in football terms a non league crowd level. Do they fly strikers in?
  13. not fascinating at all, without speedway he would have done worse for longer. Drug addiction usually ends one way only.
  14. 7 1/2 years. Seems about right.
  15. my point is that it hardly matters - we're in strange times. It ended up a good meeting by all accounts
  16. presumably had those 2 not ridden, they would have been replaced by greenhorns. I think under current circumstances a bend in the rules to ensure a quality meeting is acceptable. Did people complain when Mauger and Briggs rode for GB? Now that was daft.
  17. i would think it'll be 2022 before any new venue could be up and running. At least you can pick yr shape - Scunny, Redcar, BV and see some good racing.
  18. There cannot be, I would suggest, "haves and have nots" riding in the same league if it is to remain viable from a wider collective perspective.. 'Walkovers' would quickly decrease crowds even more, even at home for those who are winning every week.. Setting the "sweet spot level" for each league will be a major challenge, but 100% fundamental for the viability and survival, let alone future growth, of all clubs for me.. What an opportunity though for a 100% complete and innovative reset... Completely agree but without a non partizan person or group involved in team levelling we'd get the same greed and self interest we had last time when my team, for one, was completely shafted. So long as we forget or ignore that a league is a group which takes strength from its whole we're bolloxed. Nearly every club in every division has been up sht creek at one time or another, including Poole, including Wolves, christ you name them they've had a sticky patch. Without unity there'll be no away teams to turn up every week and its in the interest of that home team to make sure the away team is worth watching. Again it screams out for a controller, overlord, ceo, call him or her what you want.
  19. there is the scope for piling earth up around the circuit which isn't there at Brough, would help with noise
  20. trouble is you have to go a long way from Newcastle town to find isolated areas. The thing about the Seimens land over the road is its just a few hundred yards from Brough so if you're getting disturbed by noise now, it'll be more or less the same.
  21. that is possible but we still get the 'big names' people. In Newcastle the basketball team had a guy called Fabulous something or other. He was a big namr round here and i guess people went to watch the team to see him. In.world basketball terms he was a nobody really. You can promote and make big stars out of what's available if you do it properly.
  22. it would certainly curtail certain activities having a load of speedway parking there. Just don't flash your brake lights or cough when you walk past somebody, or so I'm told! The other thing is, if the visitors of Arcot Lane have a thing about men in leathers, the crowds might double
  23. I thought the Seaton Burn site would be where the quad bike circuit is on the gay dogging road, which some may find convenient post meeting
