and there's your problem in a nutshell, no vision of the big picture just self interest
-
an easy statement to make but we don't control the riders - they're not contracted like footballers, they're self employed and will go where the money is, IE Poland. And yes, Brexit is another reason - we won't be flying in foreigners at the drop of a hat, we won't be able to. So teams will be weakened, like it or not and the sport needs to reset the 3 divisions to accomodate this ensuring teams are well matched.
-
wait til diluted teams turn up at Glasgow and 250 fans turn up. They need to get real.
-
2018/19 he rode for Scunny
-
because no one had the foresight to see what effect Brexit work restrictions would have, even though its been coming for 4 years and no one knew that Poland would start being sh@thouses. And I think you'll find it'll be more than 2/3 teams eventually. But I'm alright Jack.

Post Brexit EU qualifying criteria
ch958 replied to enotian's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
the criteria is quite strict for non EU riders isn't it? Going to cause real problems for some second strings. Godfrey's list might not look too daft after all. I can see a points limit drop coming -

i notice the idea to change the sports name - what could that be? It is a bleeding nuisance that the Americans use the name for a different sport altogether.
-
I think you're wrong pz, once upon a time all but the elite had jobs as well as riding, riding was a paid hobby for most
-
there's about 600k Poles in the country, you'd think one or two would wander down to their local track
-
i was making the point that Ken was supportive and the other fella wasn't, it was a hard enough game to try and learn without negativity
-
had a few sessions at Felton - he was very supportive and encouraging. Mike Hiftle on the other hand......

Philip, I buy Mojo magazine monthly. They run a seperate series concentrating on single artists such as Dylan, Stones, Kate Bush, etc. They use their own archive material Could the star not do something along those lines using your archive material. You could do specials on the big names and 'best of' given years with the most interesting stories from that year. The mojo ones go for. around a tenner

behave - there's a list of British riders clubs may wish to consider if some non UK riders can't come. Surely there's enough Brexiters on here to understand that
-
couldn't agree more THJ, total over reaction
-
cheers, great. Any more?
-
just seen that Mark Loram is being interviewed on a website and I wondered how he makes a living these days. Does anyone have any stories about what retired riders are doing now?
-
twice as many meetings, the better iders who currently DU can score and earn well
-
I personally wouldn't care if we rode at Div2 level with one big league with more local riders invested in their home club. We are like many other sports now where the power lies elsewhere, e.g. ice hockey, basketball, etc who have to rely on British talent and people who frankly are no longer or never were good enough in the best leagues. A parallel could be drawn with MLS football which is very successful using USA talent and lesser talents from elsewhere. Its true that people like to watch big names but that's no longer possible so we must emphasise the team aspect more. It no longer makes sense to fly people from all over the place to ride in front of 1000 people, in football terms a non league crowd level. Do they fly strikers in?
-
not fascinating at all, without speedway he would have done worse for longer. Drug addiction usually ends one way only.
-
7 1/2 years. Seems about right.
-
my point is that it hardly matters - we're in strange times. It ended up a good meeting by all accounts
-
presumably had those 2 not ridden, they would have been replaced by greenhorns. I think under current circumstances a bend in the rules to ensure a quality meeting is acceptable. Did people complain when Mauger and Briggs rode for GB? Now that was daft.
