  1. half way between Newcastle and Teesside. Just an oval field now, no structures, not really viable
  2. i would generally agree but reading Sheffield's announcement on FB I think we need to cut them some slack
  3. Steve Park's a good poster, doesn't lie, doesn't BS, direct your ire elsewhere
  4. 350 souls at Birmingham, the second city. If its not possible to get more people in, and double that crowd would still be pretty poor, then costs must be slashed. Its a double whammy, poor income, high outgoings. Is anyone winning in this situation?
  5. if they had to run them off a generator you know what would happen to that. I do hope there'll be something in place to keep the twts out
  6. wouldn't be surprised if a change was made
  7. don't think he would fit unfortunately
  8. in reality, the situation is similar to the 6 team National league of the mid 60s. This resulted in the RAC appointing Lord Shawcross to come up with recommendations to ensure the survival, nothing less, of the sport. Can the RAC be asked to intervene again to independently find a way forward? His (Shawcoss) work lead to the formation of the British League (one big league!!) which prospered, led to a Division 2 which equally prospered and led further to a period of great success internationally and domestically. The problems any such commission would face are quite different to those in the 60's(rapidly diminishing audience and environmental concerns for two) but would at least be independent and dispassionate.
  9. despite what's said on here the bloke has obviously lost a shed load of money
  10. once you get a few competitive meetings the crowds will soon forget the big names, in reality they're not here anyway
  11. there must be Czech, German, Danish boys who don't ride in Poland
  12. we have to look at the riders available to GB.speedway as a whole and find a way forward, whether its 2 leagues or 1. The vital thing for next year, if they do nothing else is give NL boys a way into the second division. Yes, some will say weakening but some of those NL boys will thrive on the opportunity and put on a good show. One thing 1 league will do is give the boys twice the meetings, a chance to score well within those meetings and provide much needed variety to the crowds. Sure there'll be stragglers, 2/3 point averages but there always was. As I said in another post for every Briggs and Mauger there was a Roger Hill or a Ken Wakefield who probably only dreamed of beating the top boys.
  13. hopefully, we can't go on like this. This was once a 1st division club with big crowds, tragic whats happening
  14. lets hope they see the season out, they must be losing £££. I feel for them, its a canny stadium which, if it wasn't operating, people would be clamouring for it to open. TBH its time for the league to pull together and somehow make sure the talent is shared - Poole can't play Glasgow or Leicester every week
  15. in my personal opinion 2 and maybe 3 teams have signed riders knowing full well they wouldn't hang around so they could use (misuse) the guest rule. Having said that I don't know what else they could do in circumstances as they are.
  16. one big league. Count the number of available riders, divide by the number of clubs (plus Eastbourne and maybe Swindon) and thats how many riders per team you can have, probably 5. 16/18 team league, plenty variety, chance for the heat leaders to earn good money. People forget the reason some blokes had 10 plus averages was because the scarcity of meeting other top blokes during a season. There'd be plenty of 2/3 point averages but there always was AND they could still compete at NL level. I don't like the idea of 5 man teams but what else can you do?
  17. apparently there are things in place to ensure it doesn't happen again - I'm guessing more volunteers have been sourced
  18. not while we're a 6 and sometimes 5 man team, too reliant on our top 3.
