  1. IT is often stated that1500 fans were lost when Coventry closed. I can say that Speedway Star's sales took a huge hit.
  2. AND about to reform I believe after the brothers fell out years ago.
  3. SO, you think it okay that he pays all the costs of Nick Morris and another track gets him for nothing. It is like buying a car and then someone else drives it without paying anything.
  4. IF they deem to tell us which is far from a given
  5. I QUERIED his comment about Monday as a set night. Apart from Wolverhampton, who have a long tried and tested Monday as their racenight, many other tracks won't entertain it. It is financial suicide... the night after a weekend when many will have had their fill of 'entertainment'.
  6. NOT just a fan ... but an extremely experienced sports administrator whose views are very valid. And it's just an opening salvo. More to come.
  7. ALL licensed promoters of every club can attend a General Council meeting. But not all (BV for example) have a vote. That is denied until the current promotion has held a licence for three years.
  8. NIGEL can only put out what the BSPA will agree to ... which amounts to nothing as far as their meetings are concerned.
  9. EMAIl star@pinegen.co.uk with your address or where you purchase and we will see what alternatives there are. It is a gamble for us but the intransigence of WH Smith towards not only Pinegen but other small publishers is shameful. Ultimately they will suffer and probably help hasten their demise which is already on the cards.
  10. MAYBE they could at least tell us what they hope might be the answer and gauge public reaction before it is too late. For what it is worth, one league seems to be firmly on the table. Swindon promoter Terry Russell makes some really good points in SS this week, especially about CL tracks living off the backs of PL ones.
  11. THE BSPA General Council met on Tuesday at a time when speedway in the UK is in crisis. But, as usual, no word from the inner chambers of ACU House in Rugby. We are not allowed to know what they discussed, what plans they have afoot or any decisions made. They have become the ultimate secret society. And yet they wonder (maybe they don't) why the paying public, on whom they depend, despair and are deserting the sport in their droves. Are they interested in what British fans, those that are left, are prepared to pay to watch?
  12. OR that without him there wouldn't have been a deal in the first place
  13. YERS, very much so. Before speedway found a place on TV, the vast majority of people in this country thought it had long since died. Sky brought speedway back in front of many. Admittedly, the majority didn't also visit tracks to see the sport live but you can hardly blame Sky for that. The money Sky poured into British speedway was never well spent. It largely went to fund rider payments and never to improve the infrastructure of the sport. Cannot really blame Sky for that either. British speedway had a great opportunity to build on the exposure and platform provided by Sky but didn't do so. Personally cannot see how Sky can be blamed for the demise of domestic speedway. They don't create the product.
  14. NOBODY is perfect but Bracher was a great administrator who stuck by the letter of the law. Hated the Press mind you.And maybe he didn't fully understand speedway but he certainly knew how to run the SCB with Limb as his boss.
  15. AND Michael Limb, MBE ... a great Chairman who actually got involved and run a very tight ship at the SCB with Dick Bracher as Secretary. Trust me, none off today's nonsense would be taking place on his watch.
  16. MANY moons ago the RAC was the ultimate authority for all motorsport, two wheels and four, in the UK. The Secretary of the RAC was also the appointed Chairman of the Speedway Control Board.
  17. BSPA General Council meeting today ... will anything happen and if it does will they even tell us?
  18. BANKROLLED by sponsors, TV money and wealthy local basinessmen ... bit like England's Premier League only on a much lower scale.
  19. CRUEL but ... Cook said after his last ride that he had tried something drastic and it worked. One wag replied: "He turned the throttle on."
  20. IT is a decision taken on the night but very rarely before a final. There is a feeling amongst many of the riders that Phil Morris over-waters tracks.
