Grand Prix Calendar and Venues 2019
PHILIPRISING replied to james1234's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
LAST SGP of the year should always be at Torun ... and certainly not Australia. Any SGP 'Down Under' should be at the start of the campaign, not the end. True, it is an uninspiring calendar and symptomatic of the problems facing the FIM and BSI in expanding the series beyond its current boundaries. -
HAVE always refrained from getting involved with any of the Poole versus The Rest arguments on here. But some of the comments about the refereeing last night are borderline. Decisions are subjective, often a matter of opinion rather than fact. Referees will sometimes make a wrong decision. They are human. But I know Craig Ackroyd. To suggest he is either biased or, far worse, corrupt, is a step too far.

Wild Cards 2019

SHOWED in his last ride that he can still do it. Hopefully, with a winter back in the saddle, a more settled domestic life, etc, etc, he might still haul his way back. Too many on here forget what a fantastic and entertaining rider he was in 2012. -

MUCH as I love the high speed racing at Torun how often do riders pass round the inside? One reason why I would actually rate the NSS higher ... more racing lines. Can understand why ref didn't exclude Zmarzlik but, as NP stated, it is all about opinions. Nothing black and white about that one.

The continuing decline of Speedway
PHILIPRISING replied to wealdstone's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
TRACK sales used to be quite important but were always a small percentage of overall figure. For the past few years, with a lack of continuity of fixtures, etc, our track sales have shrunk to being almost non-existent outside of a couple of tracks. -
GOOD point...

THE last race at Poole on Monday and the brace of recent Heat 13s at Belle Vue underlined in my view that speedway CAN be the most exciting and enthralling form of motorsport but there can be a lot of dross as well. F1 is just a borefest especially when Sky Sports replay a whole race to literally fill in air time.

One Big League - Problem Solved
PHILIPRISING replied to Grachan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
WHAT makes you think it is only four clubs? Or that they want to run teams full of superstars. You are right that they won't get a crowd of 4,000 but these days anything around the 1800/2000 mark is considered good. Why would Somerset want to lose Doyle, Kings'Lynn either or both of Lambert and Iversen, Belle Vue release Cook or Fricke? Why wouldn't Wolverhampton want to try and get either Lindgren or Woffinden back. Poole might fancy a rejuvenated Holder. Just questions, not solutions ... -
One Big League - Problem Solved

NO one is more frustrated with the state of British speedway than me but, frankly, the cards currently held by the BSPA are not great. Tracks like Poole, King's Lynn, Wolves, Somerset want to at the very least maintain their team strengths ... not dumb down to the level of some CL teams who understandably cannot afford to go in the opposite direction. That doesn't mean that British promoters cannot address many of the problems afflicting the sport here but sadly there isn't a one-fit solution. -

YES there will be a NL. The debate has been about whether the PL and CL would amalgamate but it would appear not. From what I hear (although there is no real agreement as yet) there is a belief (fear) that a league in which the likes of Berwick, Redcar, and Scunthorpe (no disrespect) for example are expected to compete against the likes of King's Lynn and Poole simply isn't either practical or viable. As far as the current PL tracks are concerned, the hope is that Glasgow will move up, possibly replacing Leicester who seem to prefer the CL. But, as said, everything is still in the air right now with the AGM not schedled until November. -
