  1. BUT, of course, they sell on the TV rights to the Olympics so that, in England for example, they will still be seen on BBC. Discovery, owners of Eurosport, are one of the major contenders for the commercial rights to the SGP series when the current contract with IMG expires at the end of the 2021 season. As far as British domestic speedway is concerned, it would appear that a new TV deal is in place.
  2. PROBABLY three times as many people watch British speedway on television than actually attend. TV is good for general awareness that speedway still exists and for sponsorship both with riders and tracks.
  3. OR it could be that tracks racing on a Bank Holiday hope for bigger than usual crowds and don't want TV to affect that.
  4. SHOW it yes ... but go to all the expense of providing the pictures, no
  5. And there is huge money in that ... I know of a golf club being paid over £1 million to have part of their land used for landfill which will then be converted, at cost to the contractors, into a new driving range .
  6. EUROSPORT are owned by Discovery who could quite likely hire the same guys who're currently supplying the pictures for BT. Eurosport Events, part of the same set-up, are bidding for the SGP commercial rights from 2021.
  7. SURPRISED Peter Collins hasn't figured more prominently in this conversation... supreme natural talent, fabulous to watch, passed other top riders for fun. Like many others, the GP system would have suited him. How he would have loved the Wroclaw track of two weeks ago.
  8. THE gap in home fixtures is a disaster for many, including Poole and Speedway Star.
  9. WATCHED recording this week, still brilliant but doesn't compare with being there. And confirmed view at the time that Emil, has he has done historically, chose the wrong gate. Had won twice off four, would have been out in the dirt rather than pinched on the line where he lost momentum.
  10. ON a personal level but there was huge respect between them as promoters
  11. PETER was never a promoter and likely to get the sort of control that JB sought and, indeed, expected.
  12. IT was quite simple. John required full autonomy and, at the last minute, the members of the BSPA chickened out of giving him full control and, basically, JB told them what they could do with it.
  13. THE question has been asked and answered countless times... and the answer is always the same. It was an opportunity lost.
  14. BUT they are on the shelves at Tesco, Sainsbury, Asda, etc. Had we continued to pay WH Smith their 'ransom' money we might not be anywhere! There will be changes to the manner in which subs copies are sent in October. Ayres will feature in the future. Thanks for your final comments.
