  1. CERTAINLY isn't making our life an easier... very frustrating
  2. SCB only took action when Michael transgressed which was their duty. Michael was riding at a time when not only were they many riders from the USA here but also a number of mechanics. Their attitude to smoking pot was very liberal, mostly coming from California, where you could get high just sitting in the stands at Costa Mesa. It was also a time when national newspapers took a significant interest in speedway, unlike now, and Michael's misdemeanours were always going to get coverage right across the media board. That doesn't detract from his huge talent but, a bit like George Best, his career went of the rails at times although, to the best of my knowledge, he never woke one morning with Miss World in his bed
  3. BEEN reminded that it is 50 years today when Ivan Mauger won his third successive World title.
  4. WAS back page lead on the Daily Express and most other nationals too. It was a Friday night meeting and with the time difference it was done and dusted before 9pm, perfect for the papers. Along with colleagues like Graham Baker (Daily Mirror) and Kei Radnedge (Daily Mail) actually left the press box, crossed the track and got our quotes from Michael before he had even been presented with the trophy. Happy days ...
  5. THE latter. Owed Emil a stack of money which was one reason why he dipped out of the SGP for a while. BSI caught a cold from World Team Cup meeting.
  6. WOULDN'T be the first time. BSI and Sayfutdinov come to mind.
  7. FROM BSI ... We are still hoping to have a crowd and their tickets will be valid. It all depends on Uk government but they should hold on to their tickets
  8. SORRY, rushed this out before realising a thread was already on stream. Needed correcting too. Old age ...
  9. SO sorry to hear that Jerzy Szczakiel, the first Polish rider to win the individual World Championship, has passed at the age of 71 after a short illness. I was at the 1973 World Final in Katowice when Jerzy won although it is invariably remembered as the one that got away from Ivan Mauger. Jerzy never received the recognition that he deserved in his own country. Many is the time that I helped him out with a pass at a SGP event in Poland because the authorities would often ignore him. Decent chap and actually a far better rider that he is too often described as. RIP Jerzy
  10. DOES that really matter? It was about electric cars not the Monster product.
  11. AGREE with most of that but enjoyed the rallycross segment. Don't see why other aspects of sport shouldn't be included. Of course Monster were heavily promoted. They haven't got much for their buck this season and this was an opportunity to help settle the books as it were.
  12. PLUS the cost of an overnight stay ... works in Poland because each SGP there is drawing its crowd from the fan base already in the respective city. A two day event in Warsaw probably wouldn't work either.
  13. OF course Covid could change things. But with small attendances being allowed at sporting events at this moment in time it will be NSS.
  14. IT will be at the NSS with or without spectators
  15. IT is the FIM who homologate the tyres. And the FIM who check them at every meeting. No favours there.
  16. NOT singling Havvy out, just an example of why so many World Finals were never actually decided in the final race of the night.
  17. ONLY a hint ... don't understand the FIM argument to formalise all systems of scoring across the various disciplines. Speedway is different. Accept it and move on.
  18. THE last race of the meeting should always determine the winner. Gary Havelock won his World title in Heat 17 ... the last three races were pointless. After several different systems over the years, the most recent prior to tonight worked just fine.
