  1. I'M told the Fanzone will be by City Hall ... perhaps our local posters can elaborate
  2. DON'T think Nicki and Anna Mette were ever married but they have two kids.
  3. ONE of the problems facing Sky going to Poole is trying to find fixtures that will be a close contest
  4. IT was the infamous covered pyramid but I think the lessons learned then have drastically changed the manner in which the material is stored. Also, the big problem that year was when the dirt was transported from the storage site to the Millennium it was pouring with rain and by the time it arrived was soaked.
  5. I'm led to believe that the track will go in this week with a full scale test, al la Cardiff 2015, a week tomorrow. And a different (bigger, wider) track than last year with the pits outside rather than inside the stadium. Material used for laying the track has been stored inside since last year's debacle and constantly measured for moisture content.

  7. THEY are not BT's cameras ... they take the World feed just as did Sky (other than at Cardiff) and Eurosport. Natalie Quirk has been excellent, as has Scott in that role.
  8. IF you think Ole and Nicki were best of buddies you are very much mistaken.
  9. BARUM supply each rider with five tyres but they are at liberty to use another homologated tyre of their own choice.
  10. THAT would have been down to the man in charge of the contractors. I'm sure he oversaw all the other building work at the stadium.
  11. GOOD for him (note they are not for Australians!) ... WORLD Speedway Champion Tai Woffinden wants to help a new generation of British youngsters realise their dream. Woffinden has revealed plans for a series of training schools he is planning throughout the UK later this year. The Scunthorpe-born racer insists there are some talented young riders waiting to surge onto the scene and take to the sport’s big stage. He’s also revealed how he has held positive discussions with British Speedway Promoters’ Association Chairman Keith Chapman about the project. “I’m planning to hold a series of Tai Woffinden training schools for British youngsters through the summer,” he said. “Over the last 10-years I’ve learnt loads, probably quicker than a lot of guys I started out with, and I would like to pass that on – I want to work with the kids because they are the future of the sport in our country. “I’ve spoken to Keith Chapman, the new Chairman of British Speedway, and he welcomes my ideas which is great. “It’s something I’m interested in doing and new projects like this always excite me. We may set an age limit of 21, we may also do a classroom session as part of the day to discuss fitness and diet. “I’m looking at three different tracks, King’s Lynn being one of them, and work at tracks a different shape and size to vary the experience and learning for the kids. “The final dates, venues and cost will be confirmed in due course, but I really look forward to working with the young British riders. “I know the BSPA are doing some great work alongside Olly Allen and the guys at Poultec and I’m really positive about the direction we’re taking. Running my own training days just allows me to give something back myself and give some personal tuition.”

  13. FROM memory I think the 1978 World Final edition of Speedway Star had well over 10 whole page adverts from national companies involved in speedway.
  14. IT won't be BV going after the contractors but Manchester City Council who employed them. If, and it is a big if, the contractors have 'downed tools' it would also be incumbent upon the council to hire new ones to finish the job. It is very frustrating for everyone waiting for this project to finally coming to a satisfactory conclusion, none more so than the BV management and riders. However, I for one would like (and suggest) that the BV management actually be a little more forthcoming with what the problems on bends 3/4 have been which I'm sure would not jeopardise any future litigation.
  15. PRESUMABLY that's how the defects were found
  16. MUST be so frustrating especially as the rest of the track is fine. Would be nice to actually know what those defects are. Will try and find out.
  17. THE whole of bends 3/4 have been dug up and relaid to the same specification as the rest of the track.
  18. NOT sure that anyone has said they took 100 days to finish bends 3/4 after the contractors had stopped using that part of the track as an entry/exit point. Three months (100 days) before the scheduled opening the rest of the track wasn't laid. The theory is that the contractors bodged that last section and that combined with the weather and one or two other reasons it didn't settle as had the rest of the circuit. Now, presumably, they have completed the track to the same specifications as the rest and all, hopefully sooner rather than later, will be good. No doubt Sky will be anxious to see the junior match go ahead but without it my guess is they might switch the fixture to Wimborne Road.
