2017 Grand Prix Venues
PHILIPRISING replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
NO doubt we would have got lost, literally, without our sat-nav, although we did find the car park okay. There were, obviously, many things that weren't quite right but tracks like this when staging an event the magnitude of a SGP for the first time, rarely tick all the boxes. Hopefully, if they get a second chance, and take note of the BSI post-mortem, which I'm sure they will, things will improve. What I do know is that they put in a huge effect, the pits were first class, new dressing rooms were built, plenty of places to get food and drink. Years ago, have attended many meetings in Germany with the likes of Briggs and Ivan, in 'fields' like this I thought its was a fun weekend. Even found some good places to eat in Teterow having previously been told there weren't any. -

TERENZANO from day one ... terrible track, riders hated it, no crowd ... said so at the time -
55,000 in Warsaw, a sell-out even with an additional 2,000 standing places in Gorzow and a sell-out in Torun ... SGP not doing that bad.

FAR better track than Terezano. Not an embarrassment at all. Not all 11 rounds can be in mega stadiums, an eclectic mix is great for the series. I was only there as a spectator and had a great time. THAT was true but by the end of a long, very hot day and countless beers it was probably inevitable. No re;l harm done and the stewarding (or lack of it) is an issue that will be addressed should the series return there in 2017. -

ARE there any cheaper rooms? Had expected an announcement today but it cannot be far away. -

YOU are twisting the facts to suit your ill-informed opinions. Paul Bellamy only changed roles last year when he took over as Managing Director of Rallycross, When IMG acquired the rights to rallycross an in-house lawyer (Martin, cannot remember his surname) took the reins under the stewardship of Rob Armstrong, in overall charge of motorsport, and with some help from Paul. When Martin, a top class rugby player, left to run the Pro-12 series, and with Torben Olsen established as Paul's no 2 it was decided to move Paul to rallycross and promote Torben who might otherwise have moved elsewhere. Nothing to do with Gelsenkirchen. Nicola Sands felt that she needed a change after 15 years and to get a normal life after years of working very long hours and being away from home and her husband so often. She was head-hunted by Pro-12 rugby and took up their offer. Any other changes at BSI Speedway were simply staff churn. Two of the commercial managers actually went to Manchester United, one is now with the PGA of America (golf) and the other has set up his own thriving business. Event managers come and go because by and large they cannot move up the chain. Nothing sinister here at all and certainly nothing to do with Gelsenkirchen. Or, indeed, Warsaw. The problems there were well documented at the time and, like Warsaw last year, simply came down to the fact that the material used for the track was too wet when laid and inside a cold stadium and on a concrete base could not be dried sufficiently to allow the meeting to go ahead. Any conspiracy theories that the meeting was never going to take place are pure poppy cock. -

HAD better options including Teterow... WHAT movement of staff? SORRY Russ but you are wrong. Next time we have a pint I will give you chapter and verse. -

YOU obviously know Manchester better than me but ... 6,000. That's a lot of people who don't usually attend speedway. -

IRONICALLY the stadium in Riga which was used for the ill-fated SGP there stages an IMG Rallycross event this weekend with the speedway circuit being used as the fanzone. -

YES, to the Astrodome twice. Was there as team manager of the Rest of the World Team which faced the USA. -

WOULD guess BV would pick Wolves if Poole still second. Money in the bag even if they don't reach the final. Why risk losing the most lucrative fixture? -

BECAUSE most people watching soccer are soccer fans ... speedway on Sky attracts thousands of casual viewers. -

WHAT are you on? Been extolling the virtues of the Worrell brothers, Nicholls and Jacobs to mention just four. -
THEIR commentary position in Teterow was unbelievable, almost above the fence and actually with a better view than the referee, although they and their monitors did get covered in dirt on several occasions.

Teterow 2016
PHILIPRISING replied to uk_martin's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
BEAUTIFUL day in Teterow, blue sky, sunny and very warm. Flat track, most likely to favour the gaters and don't expect much passing round the outside. Embarrassing venue? Yes and no. Not every venue can be a Cardiff or Warsaw but when you experience the enthusiasm of the people in this part of Germany who are so appreciative of a major event coming here you realise it can be a balancing act. -
YOU don't have to like them or their commentaries but why morons?

JUDGING by the battle for a top eight place, not least amongst the three Poles, and the intensity of the Challenge don't think there is any lack of enthusiasm from the riders to take part in the World Championship.
