  1. As I understand it, the first Norrköping track was at Dagsbergsfaltet which operated from 1945 until 1963 or 1964. There was also a track at Rossangen in 1949 which may have run into the early 1950s. The present track was opened in 1970 and was known originally as Krakvilan or Kungsangen. If any of this information is wrong, I am happy to stand corrected.

  3. Are there any updates I can log into tomorrow morning? Thanks for any help.
  4. Thanks for this, though I'd hoped I'd unearthed a couple of long forgotten Dutch speedway tracks.
  5. Can anyone shed any light on the following meetings/tracks, please? 16 June 1946: Renbaan Duindigt: described as dirt track races but may have been on a 1,200 metre circuit. 18 September 1955: Nationale Speedway Sintelbaan-Races at Gemeentelijk Sportterrein Sappemeer. Races were over 3, 4 or 5 laps with up to 6 riders per heat. Could these have been pony trotting tracks with a cinder surface? Any help will be much appreciated.
  6. Ruda Slaska (1991), Machowa (1999) and Witnica (1999) are three of the more recently closed down tracks. Interesting news about Nowa Huta.
  7. Can any of our Swedish historians identify which track Hokarna raced at, please? I have a Stockholm vs Orebro programme dated 23rd September 1956, racing at Hokplan. I also have a SMK Gullrahov programme dated 5 June 1981 for DM - KVAL Vastra. Might this be Gullspang? There is a drawing of a Kaparna rider on the cover. The track length was 250m and the track record was 55.8 seconds, held jointly by Bernt Persson and Tommy Nilsson. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  9. No, this is based on a report I received of his more recent track antics and lifestyle choices in California.
  10. A young guy who seems hellbent on wasting his undoubted talent as a speedway rider, both on and off track. I'd be very surprised if any UK promoter would want to take a gamble on him mending his ways.

  12. Motherwell Trotting Track at the Milton Street Stadium was 680 yards long and built round the outside of a tarmac surfaced stock car circuit. It staged three long track meetings in 1972. In addition a conventional speedway track was built inside the stock car track but it lasted for only one meeting which was held on 12th June 1972 when the Eagles lost 33-42 to Teesside. The Long Track meetings were as follows:- The Golden Eagle Trophy was won by Ivan Mauger on a freezing 2nd January afternoon; The Duckhams Silver Cup took place on 12th April and was won by Garry Middleton; The Champion of Champions Trophy was held on 7th May and was won by Jim McMillan. While I attended all three long track meetings and the one speedway match, I needed Homes of British Speedway to refresh my failing memory.
  13. Ian Paterson has at least one Japanese speedway engine in his collection at the From Cinder To Shale speedway museum, near Edinburgh. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the engine.

  15. I believe Tyskie is on sale in the Wetherspoons pub chain here in the UK. There is at least one of them in all cities and large towns.
  16. Except, sadly, Edinburgh in 1960.
  17. You can read all about the 'Dukes' and how the elephant insignia came into being here: http://www.dwr.org.uk/dwr.php?id=52 Used to really enjoy going to the Shay after a couple of pints of Whittaker's.
  18. Very disappointed to see the German GP is not being held on a proper speedway track. I know it will be of little or no consequence to Benfield, but I'll definitely not be there in October, or at Cardiff or Parken for the same reason. Maybe they will be great events and good social occasions, but speedway used to be about racing on a decently prepared track which allowed the supposed best riders in the world to entertain us with their skilllful riding. Sadly that doesn't seem to matter anymore.
  19. Mmmmm..........................pity about the track. Give me the East European outposts every time!
  20. Me too, but Mrs Shaledodger was looking forward to the swimming pool at the Pyramida.
  21. Nice photos but I wonder if you have the actual heat details, Iris? I have just been sent the programme for this meeting and would like to fill it in. Thanks.
  22. Did Joe Hicks, who came over to Glasgow in the mid 60's with Bruce Ovenden, ever turn out for the Tigers? If not, he may have ridden for Fife Lions at Cowdenbeath. OK, not a league team, I know. Anyone remember?
  23. Denmark Carsten Schott for Edinburgh during the Powderhall era.
