Could have , should have ,bought Newport speedway then, no wonder he was in a position to do so !

Phil Morris was on tv in a couple of quiz shows, definitely Eggheads and possibly 15 to 1 and he won a few pounds from his quiz exploits, They also had "dancing on ice" at Telford where some of the riders danced comically with a professional ice skater ,Nick Simmons was a sensation ( for all the wrong reasons) think Jack Hargreaves won it ?

Peterborough Panthers 2014
piston197 replied to NeilWatson's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Carl stonehewer ???? SGP 2000/2003 and Workington Comets, can't remember a lot of laughter then, and that was in SGP and Premier league same seasons, not after the end of his SGP career ! And Stoney didn't have an easy ride in the PL, he was one of the top riders in the PL those years ,but still got beaten , I think Dryml will be one of the top riders in the PL, but will still get beaten often enough especially away. -
Congratulations to Sheffield in the signing of Leigh Lanham, good solid performer, genuine guy, has been there and done it, raced in all conditions without whinging , including winter meets, imparts good team spirit, and delivers when it matters, Leigh won't let you down, well done

Best of luck with Mark Lemon at Glasgow, as a rider at Newport he was the most disappointing signing since Steve Masters and if he passes anything onto the youngsters , let's hope it is not his attitude, has been a good rider in the past, but should have called it a day at he end of 2012, when you have riders with the positive attitude of Leigh Lanham without a ride and the likes of Lemon being handed another chance it makes you wonder

Surely this is a lesson that could have been learned when elder brother Todd claimed the Brit partiality and the reduction in averages for a british passport holder, only to have it turn round and bite Newports team building fairly and squarely on the ass, when it became apparent riding in Aussie champs removed the Brit trump card. Brady riding in Denmark seems to have scuppered Somersets plans likewise. Maybe a bit of a mistake in the case of Todd,( although I believe he was warned), maybe a bit stupid the second time with the younger Kurtz ?

He finished that season at QM on a 6.85 average, a guy I know who sponsored him with 2 Finn Jensen tuned engines was given them back in a holdall at the end of the season, blown to bits. still remember him best for his celebratory wheelie when he bailed off to miss the tractor and his bike ended up parked upright on the back of the tractor's rake as the tractor continued on it's way

Bbc Sports Personality Of The Year

It became clear to me the word "personality" meant nothing when Nigel Mansell won it ! His achievements immense, his personality ZERO -
Bbc Sports Personality Of The Year

If you look at the betting odds on the sports personality of the year Andy Murray is a nailed on certainty, Corals have Woffy at 4th favourite albeit at 100 to1 !!! -
Message To The Leicester Promotor
piston197 replied to robert72's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
There was a film ,i think it was called "the man who went up a hill and came down a mountain",starred Hugh Grant and was about a welsh village whose mountain was re-classified as a hill,so locals carried earth up it overnight to increase it's height to re-instate as a mountain. So looks like it's been done before -
Justin Sedgemen ??? occasionally wonderful, but mostly woeful, have a look at his Wasps effort 2 great openers and then drivel, and mostly riding with Jason doyle, can't see him riding with Joe Screen any different,we couldn't wait to get rid of him and bring back Mellgren, mind you a team at Newport consisting of 7 off sedgemen would be better than the flattened site that is there now.

Sad to see the Catholic Church are so easily offended, maybe one visit to the confessional box,a handful of Hail Mary's and they could have forgiven you,it seemed to work for other seemingly more heinous crimes some of their flock and ministers have been accused of jn the past,so maybe all comes down to money and not morals. and disputing land values is the greater sin? fortunately i am a happy atheist.
-
Well with Gjedde,Lanham, and Doyle mentioned above and Mellgren already a shoe in,you only need Aspregen,Kurtz and Mark Jones to be the Wasps 2011 cup winning side ,are you trying to recreate a super team that closed Newport down? (with more than a little help from the clowns who promoted the team)With a recreation of that side you could walk the 2013 season

Team Gb V Team Australia Test Match - 1st August 2012.
piston197 replied to Bomo1's topic in International World of Speedway
Take them on with "bat and bike" ? i once saw a rider take on another with a shovel, entertaining ,but hardly a fair contest. -
Nice to see Leigh fixed up ,even if only temporary,Rye have one of the best team men in their line up now, with a bit of luck they will soon see the benefits of keeping him in the team ,rather than letting him go as they did with Doyle. Can only make Rye a stronger team ,I say with no Wasps to support, good luck to both rye and Leigh.

Most point added to starting average: Todd Kurtz ( looks like he is up 2.5% already and the season has not even started yet)
-
patrality only counts with riders who were active in the conference league and had dual nationality status, due to their patrality,Newport Hornets had 2 last year,Todd Kurtz and Jay Herne, both of which were due a reduction for their British patrality, but apparently riding in the Australian championships and nailing your colours to the mast has upset the powers that be,can't see it myself,if you have, dual patrality, you have dual patrality, there are many instances of sportsman competing for different nationalities as the occasion suits
-
I too have heard the same thing and believe it to be true, but the BSPA website has asterisks against Werner and Tom Armstrong stating these averages are awaiting confirmation, but no asterisks against **** ***** of Newport,so if the strange ways of BSPA are to believed, then there is no problem with the Wasps team?? Watch this space, for more indecision from the dictators of Rugby

Could do with a couple of straights between the corners in my opinion, but maybe you recognise this yourself as your name "english roundabout" seems to suggest
-
He could always put £1 on entrance fee,and when you have 10 tickets swap them for one £10 share, with the "massive" gates we hear about should take about 20 weeks to sell the lot! perhaps i shouldn't have suggested it?
-
not only is he not as good as his brother ,he can't even beat him in an ugliest face contest, and having seen his brother you would think it would be difficult not to!,Jokes aside, from his time with Isle of Wight he looked promising,at Newport he always looked likely to step up,but didn't,same at Somerset, marginal increases along the way ,but nothing like the early expectations, doesn't look better than a number 2 in a side ,but with Plymouth's record we could see him in a heat leader position sometime soon?

Newport Speedway Fans Forum
piston197 replied to falconreble's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
At the end of the day,the old adage "all publicity is good publicity" is not necessarily true, you only have to ask Gerald Rattner,I have used both sites at various times,a lot of times both appeared for various reasons to be a little late with news, results etc,but between these two,the british speedway forum and speedway updates coupled with the Wasp's hotline,i usually found out the info i was seeking. It's a pity this has descended to an a** kicking contest as both sites have their merits and users have their favourites .Both webmasters have to give up their time to run these sites, maybe a little less ego and a bit more co-operation might be the order of the day -
Having watched Brent werner over the years,he could always be counted on to hold position if he made the gate, and could cover an overtake move as good as any, funny enough the races he won at Newport always seemed to be the slowest heats because he was difficult to overtake, problem only occurred when he missed the gate, just never seemed to be able to overtake anybody other than a struggling reserve in his latter years.Could be a good acquisition if he has his gating sorted out,but will probably struggle in the PL against most opposition if he is slow out of the trap.

Johhno was always entertaining (apparently both on and off the track),don't know if he was a team man or not ,but he appears to have more clubs than a pack of cards (one a year since 2003)maybe he was just making as much as possible from his last years ,and who can blame him, maybe he can now concentrate more on his sky tv work ,and maybe we can reap the benefit by seeing less of Kelvin? and more of Johhno,i would like to think so!
