  1. Silly question ?? how difficult would it to be to set up an LED display wtth perhaps 12 amber ( not red!) LED's mounted on a strip on the bars , with one LED lighting up for each 1000RPM as on some starts it may be prudent to leave the line at say 8000 RPM than at 10,000 RPM due to the nature of the start. It is not rocket science , or costly and it will take the guesswork out of how hard bikes are being revved in the pits, or on the startline, obviously in the heat of battle no one is going to be looking at it ??
  2. July 16th South Midlands Autojumble Ross-on-Wye HR9 7QQ Mixed event predominantly motorcycle 45 miles from Cardiff July 17th VMCC founders day Autojumble Stanford Hall, Lutterworth LE7 6DH, motorcycle only, 147 miles from Cardiff Both long established events if you are still in the country the following weekend after cardiff
  3. I think Niki P has shut the door more times than Larry Grayson and if he is managing to do it without looking back then he must have wing mirrors ? Still love the bloke though !
  4. I do know that Prince Charles turned up a Plymouth with a fox fur hat on . When asked why he said " I told the queen I was going to Plymuth and she said" "Wear the fox hat , at least I think that is what I heard?"
  5. Not a famously as Bluebottle from the goon show though !
  6. "some might say" (Noel Gallagher 24th April 1995) Freedom fighters was a track by The Music, on their second album Welcome to the North
  7. if you google "rebel emblem images" nearly every image has a picture of the Rebel Alliance flag from the Star wars series, nice design, but think there may be copyright problems if this was used by Somerset ?
  8. Burnham on sea, summersett famous for Scrumpy Maybe Summersett sea-ciders ?
  9. OK so Somerset rebels had an emblem that may have in latter days offended a couple of people with their own agenda, but at least the emblem had some relevance to the name Rebels, now they have a dragon( sorry Wyvern) so how abut a change to the Somerset Dragons ( or Wyverns) at least the name will then have some relevance to the race jacket emblem. Just going to put my tin hat on as I prepare for the deluge of people who disagree !
  10. Yes and on that Wiki page under the picture it says " a dragon rampant" it does not say a Wyvern rampant, hence my post "about as close to a Welsh dragon as you can get "
  11. Yes, just about as close to a Welsh dragon as you could get !
  12. Variable valve timing by centrifugal force , whatever next ? If you have ever had a BTH magneto off a Triumph, you will find on the auto advance there is a very similar system, albeit a bit cruder, on the ATD ( automatic timing device) to advance ignition timing according to revs, just looks like a more sophisticated version on the end of the cam shafts. nothing new just another use for an existing principle . Old idea , new application ! When the Japanese came out with their posi-lube automatic oil injection systems it was only a revamp of what Villiers did on their two strokes in 1927, and the Bradshaw designed , oil cooled 350cc engine of the early 1920's pre-dated the oil cooled Suzukis by nearly 60 years.
  13. Top double signing in PL since 2000 ? Charlie Gjedde and Jason Doyle Bewick fans please feel free to discuss
  14. Knowing the locality suggest they stock up on shell suits, trackie bottoms ( and security)
  15. I agree the catchment area is small and it is a depressed area, but the road networks are already great and are under vast improvement at the moment, it is already quicker to get to west Wales by travelling this route than it is to use the M4. I went to pretty much every home match at Newport from 1999 onwards travelling 40 miles from close to Ross-on-wye, if there was to be a new venue here it would get my full support and would be a similar mileage but a shorter time to arrive. Since Newport closed I have been to one speedway meeting , Somerset, premier league pairs 2014, and only then because I could not get tickets to Gloucestershire v Somerset 20 / 20 Cricket and it was on the way back from a disapointment. I did enjoy it, but it was not like having a team to support, so small steps , but put me down as one lost to speedway who would make a return if there was regular speedway at the Circuit of Wales at any level from National to Elite league.
  16. Looks like the "major sponsor" is a toss up between Kleen-eze and Mr Sheen then ? or did you mean Polish and not polish ?
  17. Frank Smart, entertainer wherever he went, unique head under the handlebars style
  18. I have a set of his leathers hanging in my cellar, they came from a young rider with little money and were a gift from Lew , it speaks volumes of the man
  19. Not bad at all I think even Fireman Sam didn't have his own hose, think he used one supplied by the county ? I could be wrong ?
  20. I have often thought some starts are grippier than others, some are slicker, and the revs that the clutch are dropped at on these surfaces will govern the start speed, obviously coupled with reaction times . How difficult would it be to have an LED display of say 10 LED's where the first one lights at 5000 revs and subsequent ones come in at 500 rev intervals, a steady hand at the desired rev range and then concentration on the tapes could give consistency to some riders starts ?? Or is this cheating ?
  21. Would the Rutherford who scored 8 points, same as Sissis the Ex Newport( Mr chequered flag/cobra) Shelby Rutherford, ?
  22. Wihilst I think Alex has made a very sensible and adult post , why are the UKV&I applications being processed in Manilla ?? out sourcing a la insurance call centres ?? or maybe it is just in a Manilla envelope somewhere else in the world ?
  23. Saw one years ago at Newport, think from memory it was Nicky Simmonds bike ?? 3 bikes left the line and one stayed still, the frame contained the cylinder and top half of the crankcases, the track staff were picking up bits of hot metal with a shovel and putting them still smoking into a bucket
  24. A trick I was taught by Steve Saunders when trying to find grip on trials bikes up slippery surfaces was to hold open the throttle , but press firmly on the rear brake to prevent the wheel spinning and braking traction, i.e. killing the horsepower with the back brake. and finding grip , power can be fed in or out in this way Maybe "having no brakes" on a speedway bike is a disadvantage as they can be used to find grip if you know what you are doing, can't argue the case for a front brake though Happy new year
  25. Maybe similar to A drag racing B any tarmac racing where exit speed is needed out of the corner with max traction formula one etc ( god forbid someone tries to bring traction control into speedway with limited slip clutches and the like) If you have the horse power you can tame it, knock back timing, gearing etc to find the optimum setting If you do not have the BHP in the first place you are at a disadvantage, it is easier to make a fast engine slower than a slow engine faster ?? I believe ??
