  1. Would be nice to know what the 100k was used for, if the complex without Speedway is profitable, can't believe that was used to keep Speedway afloat, perhaps it was to pay the Chairman, nice little earner Rodney, as Del Boy would say.
  2. The majority of Track guys have had their budgets cut to virtually nothing, one hasn't had any new shale for over two years, and still manages to produce one of the best tracks in the PL. Perhaps they should all attend a track prep school at Ipswich, can't believe it's that easy to prepare a consistently great race surface, only trouble is, you're going to have problems on the normal crap tracks away from home.
  3. Without the rich, you couldn't have the poor, you'd just have a third world country.
  4. Vote of no confidence in chairman, file for bankruptcy, open new company next day, carry on trading, seems common practice nowadays.
  5. Could well have been in his long term plan, we will never know, but the Chairman certainly seems to be holding all the ace cards, which have been built up over recent years.
  6. IOW should never be in the NL, just needs someone to go in who knows how to run a decent operation, hang on, there's not many of them about now, Pratt Louis Silver, type person is what's needed, not a Manager who looses other peoples money. Interesting that the Chairman pours in 100k, but is getting paid!! Also, not sure how the Council will react if Speedway stops, as they were always very favourable when it comes to the complex being a good attraction on the Island, whereas it looks like it's becoming an Industrial estate, with taxi firms etc running from the place.
  7. Well put Bryn, so all we need to see now is what state island speedway (IOW) Ltd is in, and I wouldn't mind betting it's pretty healthy, hopefully the more information that is brought into the public domain, will make it harder for the Chairman to throw the Speedway to the Wolves.
  8. Doesn't seem that long ago that the Scooter Rally alone would have more than covered the 20k loss, but that now seems to be part of a different pot. In the PL days you couldn't even get in the Bar after a Meeting, hate to think how much money the Food and Drink generated, but again that appears to be going in a different pot. Poor old speedway seems to be left without a pot to p*** in. Having witnessed the glory days on the IOW, with the likes of Holder, Shields, Watt, Bunyan, Boyce, Bird and a thriving Club, there must have been some seriously bad decisions made over recent years.
  9. What a mess, no wonder nobody wants to invest, not sure if the 'Club' loosing £20k is just the Speedway or the whole complex lost that amount, would be interested to know how the figures for the whole business look for the past couple of years.
  10. Didn't realise they were struggling, with such a captive client base, without either Wightlink or Red Funnel providing crossings free of charge, then there's no point in buying an air fence, as Speedway is finished, if you say £70 per van, that's over 1k per meeting, just for riders transport, that's without paying mileage etc.
  11. Not at all like Peterborough, no rent to pay, bar and catering income, multi-use venue with all income to Club, year round income, massive potential support during the holiday season.
  12. Isn't the Chairman just the elected head of the committee, no special powers, same as the Treasurer or Secretary, I thought the minimum share uptake was enough to vote, doesn't matter if you own a thousand shares or the minimum amount, a shareholder gets one vote. But no doubt it's not as simple as it appears.
  13. Wow, he must be a very powerful Chairman, to be able to make such important changes, as long as I can remember, Speedway was the reason that the whole setup existed , and why the shareholders invested in the first place, seems like time for an EGM and get the Club back on track, where it belongs, and back in the PL and not the NL. Sorry editor didn't work, Speedway on it's own will never pay on the IOW, but as part of the whole package, and run correctly, would definitely be viable, but unfortunately too many bridges may have been burnt in the past, but if these can be repaired IOW could have a good future.
  14. Getting nearer the truth now, sounds a bit like asset stripping to me, IOW was always one big pot, the bar and catering on race night was a very nice little earner, the scooter rally more than balanced the books, shame that the original consortium are no longer involved, as they were a great group of local businessmen.
  15. Oz appears big on ideas, and how things should be done, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty, doesn't actually rank anywhere when it comes to running structured speedway, GP's, Leagues, International Events all seem to be missing.
  16. Without BSL there wouldn't be a NZ GP, so enjoy it while you can, Oz did their $$$'s and ran to the hills years ago, if you look at the British GP, without the Welsh top up money, it probably wouldn't even be running, have we got a BSL willing to put up and probably loose big time, I doubt it nowadays. Bill Buckley is in the enviable position of doing whatever he wants, he can run Springs Speedway, he runs a massive Race Shop, BSL Racing, good luck to the guy, show me someone who wouldn't swop places with him, and i'll show you a fool. Loads of hurdles and excuses, Bill Buckley overcame them all, green light and bullcrap come to mind
  17. Does the 20k loss include the take from the bar/catering, scooter rally, gymnasium rental, wedding/party venue hire?
  18. That's why Riders become mercenaries, once you've been conned out of a few grand, loyalty doesn't pay the bills. Especially when the powers that be do nothing about it, and let it happen time and time again by the same people.
  19. He wasn't the only one blaming Starke for the accident, nobody else caused it.
  20. At least Mark's got his signing on fee to comfort the blow, if he signed, then that'll be due, sacked or not.
  21. There's a big difference in being paid what you're owed, to the penny, on time, as is always the case at Rye. Or not being paid at all, which is happening all to frequently, loads of promises being made this winter, but the more experienced riders know who to trust and who to stay away from.
  22. When Clubs in our Elite league are averaging well below 1,000 fans, it's hardly going to register on the list of top sports in the UK, away from the Speedway Star and this Forum, the sport is well and truly a minority sport. Just have to face facts, Speedway is finished as a major player in Sport, and the BSPA have now driven it even further down the drain, by trying to con the Public into paying the same money for a far lesser product, they'll all be bringing out the begging bowls, come next winter. And please, don't give me the ' we're helping young British riders for the future', they've never given a monkeys about them, unless the average fits, or they're cheap, now it's both.
  23. Listening to JB talking at Rye on sunday, while practicing, he only signed for 2014, as long as he had input into track preparation.
