  1. Am I right in thinking the light stanchions have been move? They look like they are on the outside of the greyhound track? Would it make a "possible" substitute venue to hold the Pairs on the night before the GP at Cardiff, now that Somerset has closed?
  2. Back in 1972, when I first started going to Cleveland Park, there was a Speedway shop/Office (not sure of it's correct title), on the back straight, you could buy rosette's, program boards, ticket's for coach trips, Wembley world final's etc, Julie was in charge of it at the time, it was just a serving hatch at the back of the stand. I remember when the pit's moved from the School end of the stadium, to just near the A19 flyover, they built a Speedway Office as part of the new pits complex, and she moved in there. So she had been involved with Cleveland Park 25+ years, to my knowledge, till it closed at the end of the 1996 season. Then when speedway returned at the STMP in 2006, she took up her old position.
  3. I surprised nobody had thought to combine the PLRC & CLRC using (where possible) all teams No1’s as a one-off for this season Possible line up:- Dan Bewley - Belle Vue Danny King - Ipswich Richard Lawson - King’s Lynn Michael Palm Toft - Peterborough Jack Holder - Sheffield Sam Masters - Wolverhampton N Busk Jakobsen - Berwick Chris Harris - Birmingham Richard Worrell - Edinburgh Craig Cook - Glasgow Scott Nicholls - Kent Nick Morris - Leicester Rory Schlein - Poole Bjarne Pedersen - Plymouth Charles Wright - Redcar Adam Ellis - Scunthorpe You would have a Rider’s Championship where all teams (& supporters of those teams) would have a representative. Riders would be in team body colours of the team they are representing. The fans from all teams would have a reason to attend, the CLRC at Sheffield is always well attended, combine that with supporters from Premier League teams and hold it at the National Stadium, it would have the makings for a bumper crowd, ideally on a Saturday Night/Sunday Afternoon (if Pos). The only team to miss-out would be Newcastle, by virtue of their Number 1 having the lowest average.
  4. 4. Kasper Andersen (G) - 3, 2, 2, 3 = 10
  5. Depending on which part of York you live, Redcar is up to 5 miles nearer than Sheffield (54miles v 49miles approx). Maybe you should give yourself a treat, and visit Redcar. It might rekindle your interest in the sport.
  6. The Wheels area would be a great place to re-locate, but I suspect the area will be a prime site for redevelopment once HS2 Curzon street opens. The nearest station is Adderley Park. Once New street has some of it London traffic relocated to Curzon Street, more local services can be added, so the service to Adderley Park could be increased making the area a prime site for re-development
  7. It sounds good till you start talking about "Which 12 Teams". As it stands there are 6 Premiership Teams & 12 Championship Teams. I assume the 12 teams in this new format will be the 6 present Premiership teams + 6 from the present Championship teams, So which 6 teams from the present Championship would you sacrifice to make the Premiership more successful.
  8. Just reminded me of a road sign that was finally taken down in 2018, 22 yrs after the stadium was demolished.
  9. I had a vague recollection of something happening, and various recommendations being introduced. Hence why I prefixed my comment with "I'm not 100% sure". That's the thing with speedway, the rules & recommendations change on an almost year basis, that you lose track of when & why.
  10. I'm not 100% sure, But I believe there was an incident involving a rider with no helmet (parade lap) coming into contact with the grading tractor. The rule about having to wear a helmet was introduced shortly afterwards.
  11. Don't know, didn't click on the link, what is it? A virus or something else? Or are you expecting everybody to play Russian roulette, by clicking on random links and hope it's not a virus.
  12. Gutted at not being able to attend, but it is what it is. Looking forward to getting some feedback as to how "Covid" protocols work. I was hoping there might be a Stream available, but I haven't seen any mention of a stream.
  13. After a long wait, a new season begins at the Media Prima Arena. Redcar Bears 1. Charles Wright 2. Anders Rowe 3.Michael Palm Toft 4. Jorden Stewart 5. Jake Allen 6. James Sargeant 7. Jorden Jenkins Edinburgh Sam Master Nathan Greaves Kye Thpmpson Josh Pickering Richie Worrell Joe Lawlor William Lawson This meeting is sold out with limited capacity. Should be a close match, with the Bears just coming out on top.
  14. I thought there were a few positives and a few negatives, but for a first attempt it wasn't too bad overall. The camera work was good, just a few hic-cups early doors, although a second camera showing the start and finish line side on would be nice, rather than just a head-on camera angle. There appeared to be a few glitches with the on screen graphics, the graphics themselves were good, just bits of information missing (points scored under the name of the rider during heat line-ups), which shouldn't be to difficult to sort out. Roy & Paul doing the commentary seamed to get carried away with themselves at times, and overlooked the one thing commentators are meant to do, keep the viewer at home up to date with the match details. It wasn't a normal individual meeting that we are all familiar with, 16 riders, 20 heats. It was 2 groups of 14 riders (A & B groups), with the top 4 from each group going into a semi final made up of 2 from group A and 2 from group B, which wasn't explained during the qualifying heats, so the viewer at home needed the help of the commentators to make sense of the race details. At first I thought they didn't have a screen to see what the viewers at home were seeing, forth coming Heat details, Heat results, Leaderboard, and occasional scrolling list of club sponsors (nice touch) etc, as they just seamed to be ignoring what was on screen and having there own conversation, It wasn't until just before the semi-finals that Roy & Paul finally used the details being presented on screen as a reference point to the conversation to inform the viewer. From what I could see, the Redcar promotion team seam to have gone to a lot of time and effort to get the various elements of a live broadcast right, the camera work, on screen presentation (graphics) and a commentary team , once they get these elements working together as one unit, they will have a very good product. It's a learning curve for all involved, and it was a very good effort for a first attempt.
  15. Kasper Anderson refused work permit Full Details :-Further blow for Bears (redcar-speedway.com)
  16. What sort of income does Speedway generate during winter, that it requires a government loan to see them over the winter? I assume the government looked at what sort of "loss of income" the sport would suffer as a result of there being no sport during winter and decided there would be none.
  17. It depends on what you use the transponders for, in an Ideal world, I would like the transponders to be used as part of the start process. The process should be:- Start Marshall calls riders to tapes. When ready the Start Marshall indicates to referee, who presses a button to turn on the green light. The rest of the process is controlled by a computer. The computer releases the tapes between 1 & 4 seconds of the green light coming on, or whatever the current rules are. The computer has reaction time parameters set, and if a rider reacts quicker than those parameters, it's a false start, if none of rider do, the races continues, irrespective of a rider missing the start or reacting slower than everyone else. The transponders could also detect riders who are not still once the green light comes on. You could theoretically allow one or more rider(s) to jump the start and add a time penalty at the end of the race, and reduce the number of restarts, not sure if that would be popular, but you could do it.
  18. I think you'll find the reason the first lap of a F1 race is not recorded is because not all cars travel the same distance on the first lap, there are sensors installed under each grid slot, to detect jump starts and the main timing loop is installed on the Finish line, notice I didn't say Start/Finish line, some F1 circuits have the Finish line behind the grid, so in effect at some circuits, the front of the grid do not cross the Finish line and do not complete a full lap. The first lap timings are simply the time it takes from the Lights going out to the time the car crosses the Finish line on completion of the first lap, irrespective of whether the Cars cross the finish line on there way to the first bend or not. There are some circuits were the start line is in a different location to the Finish line.
  19. Most international test matches were 18 heat matches, 8 rider sides, 6 who rode & 2 reserves. The 1-6 rode 6 times unless replaced by a reserve. The copy of the race card confirms this. I can remember the first meeting I ever went to, Young England v Young Sweden at Cleveland Park in 1971, One of the Swedes just missed out on a 18 pt max, Louis or Knapkin who beat him in one ride. And years later I saw somebody else have a 18pt max at Cleveland Park in an international test match, might have been Michael Lee or Kenny Carter (or both). Edit, Just discovered the International tournament was run under the conventional 13 heat format, as opposed to a Test match over 18 hts, something I didn't know, I only ever saw International test matches at Cleveland Park.
  20. I fall into the camp of thinking the sport governing body has failed the sport over the years. Back in 1968 when the sport was re-invented, somebody should have looked to the future and thought, right the sport relies on the goodwill of stadium landlords, we need to build up an asset base of stadiums of our own. If a small levy had been included with-in the entry admission fee and administered by an independent body, over the years as stadiums became available to purchase the sport could have been in a position to snap some up. You wouldn't have been able to buy all stadiums, you probably wouldn't want to anyway, but you could have built up a core asset base over the years. We are now 50+ years later, and in the main, the sport is still reliant on the goodwill of stadium landlords to survive, and with a relatively small number of standalone tracks. The sport has had many millions of pounds pass through it's hands over the years, most of which has been wasted.
  21. I would think Newcastle would fall into this category. It closed and reopened a few times, over the years, all at Brough Park
  22. It was shown on Redcar Bears Speedway facebook page & YouTube channel. I personally watch it on the YouTube channel (Virgin Media channel198). I suspect It will still be there to watch at your convenience.
  23. Oh, It was certainly vague, I'll give you that..
  24. Where have they gone, anywhere nice, or does that statement have some other significance. A few more details might help.
  25. I think, There are different levels of High risk, there's High Risk without a letter, and Very High risk with a letter (Shielded). As far as clarity between the two, i.e what puts a person in one group but not the other, and which rules apply and which don't I haven't got a clue.
