  1. If they were £94.00 in 1987, how much are they now? Spares are expensive and far and away inflated. Recently, a friend of mine forgot to put oil in her Briggs and Stratton mower engine.....broken conrod. New conrod £45.00, new engine, £79.00!
  2. That is scary. Poor Tai had/has to get back on a bike. What was/will be going through his mind? So glad he was unhurt.
  3. I think Mike spent the day in the Albatross & Eagle public house TWK! He did come out a bit wobbly!
  4. But you did say you were going to buy SS to 'laugh at some of the expert prediction', is that positive? Perhaps you would have been better picking up a copy of Viz?
  5. No, not a 'no' to stats, but for those who say 'the injury count hasn't changed', my suggestion could be the reason why it appears/seems injuries are more of an issue?
  6. Maybe teams are more vulnerable to injury these days, due to the low points limit? And a lack of available riders to fill the void?
  7. For some reason, I thought 'Jacques' was a geezer! (Note to self:- don't make assumptions!). Mind you, we also have 'Iris', who I think is a geezer! It's a topsy turvy world!
  8. I have found him on this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4txNy2jWI
  9. I think this has happened before? I seem to recall, last season, the Slough Speedway manager upsetting the referee one evening and being banished from the stadium for 2 meetings. However, it was noted that he was seen hanging out of a flat window, overlooking the stadium, with a powerful pair of binoculars, during the next 2 meetings. I will see if I can find a Youtube link.
  10. I am amazed that Bodmin speedway did not happen, due to a forged National Trust letter. Surely, following the letter being received, the prospective promoters would have wanted a face to face meeting with a member of the National Trust to see if a compromise could be found and in which case, the imposter would have been revealed. Regarding Imerys, it still appears the 'lord giveth and the lord taketh away'. I imagine the reason why Imerys wouldn't take any rent was to ensure they had no contractual arrangement, as they may have known they would eventually reclaim the site. I wonder if the Annear family look on Imerys with the same affection?
  11. I went to the track, when on holiday a number of years ago and it looked like an area that had already been mined! Also, I thought English China Clay had specifically allocated the area for speedway, as it was surplus to their needs. Perhaps I am wrong, memory is fading!
  12. I see the laser treatment has worked wonders 25yearfan!
  13. Do you mean 'that special speedway smell' of a typical speedway supporter?
  14. Revised nomination: Fay Taylour Sorry, didn't see her ride, but would be a track draw (or drawers)!
  15. I always enjoyed watching Harry Hunt going round, but wasn't such a good sight in swimwear though.
  16. Red Ott (Rayleigh early 70s), he just wound it on and if he stayed on the bike, racked up the points and was exciting to watch. Under the helmet, he wore glasses and I suppose, looked a bit geeky, but he could ride!
  17. I didn't know the man, but sounds like he was a giant of a supporter! RIP Mr Tungate
  18. I have never met the man, but the name I remember. A good grass track rider too, as I recall! You realise you are getting old yourself when these names are departing. RIP
  19. Unless things have changed, but I believe there is not an oil ring on a speedway engine piston, which is one of the reasons you get the whiff, 'total loss' or not! I think Elf White Ideal, was a good oil! And had a rich castor smell! Wonderful! EDIT:- On research, I think I am wrong. Certainly modern pistons seem to have a compression ring and a scraper/oil ring. I don't think this was always the case? Perhaps the introduction of an oil ring is one of the reasons for the reduced smell?
  20. You could cook your chips in it TWK! Don't drink it though, it will give you the trots!
  21. Ray Stadia, on 27 Jan 2015 - 11:57 PM, said: Surely you mean Dean FELTON? Sorry, yes, Dean Felton. Still got about 2 1/2 lts of Castrol R in the original gallon tin this could start you off ,joking aside we have to move on and I'm with Mr T on this . I would agree that we would need to move on if mineral/synthetic oil was better than bean oil, but if Peter Johns recommends bean oil in the engines he tunes, why are riders not using it? I have to say, Castrol R was far and away more expensive years ago and riders could have made a lot of saving then by using mineral oil, but synthetic oil is a similar price to castor oil. Just mineral oil is still cheaper, but I wouldn't use that in a high revving engine, myself.
