Had you been successful, the story may have hit the silver screen! 'Field Of Dreams' comes to mind!
-
Tsk tsk!......not really! It's a good album!

I am not keen on the smell of creosote, but do like the smell of castor, however, sometimes and according to my nostrils, in a concentrated form, i.e. lots of bikes chucking it out, it can smell like excrement! Foot note:- Smith & Allan Racing Castor, £27.50 per 5 litres
-
Perhaps the answer could be to put a bit of castor oil in with the methanol, which may help the engine life also! Assuming methanol and castor oil mix, but I imagine it does as I am sure some 2 stroke grass track riders running on methanol use castor oil as a pre-mix. Not sure if it is ok to mix castor and synthetic, if the main lubrication of the engine is synthetic?
-
Not sure what you mean. Up until their demise, Rayleigh riders were mainly using 2 valve Jawas, apart from dear old Terry Stone and all the riders used castor based oil. The non use of castor based oil is a relatively recent thing, possibly started by Gary Havelock who I think was sponsored by Mobile to use synthetic oil. I even think there is a synthetic oil which offers a castor oil smell. For me it is an important part of speedway enjoyment, but then I would be considered an old f4rt!

Somerset And The Confederate Flag

Not me Iris, I am too busy making a patchwork quilt, resembling the Confederate Flag, which I will be donating to charity.........if they will soil their hands and take it! -

What is interesting, is apparently, the flag mostly displayed /used by the KKK, is the Stars and Stripes. -

What tosh! The only way Somerset speedway could be labelled as racist, is if they intentionally used the con fed flag as a symbol for their club, to upset certain members of society. They would have innocently used the flag, in conjunction with their nickname Rebels. However, it has now been decided that the flag represents all things racist against black people. But the fact still remains, it was just a flag of a country (lower half of a country), at a particular time. I wonder how many other (universally accepted) national flags are bathed in blood, oppression, hatred and misery? Possibly our own? -

Also, and apparently, the most likely group of people to be offended by the confed flag, especially in America, are the black Americans. How many black Americans are supporters at Somerset speedway? Exactly, therefore, it must be the white British who are offended. Some people obviously have too much time on their hands. Unless Somerset speedway is planning a team tour of the USA? -

Accepting the above Iris.....but how long have Somerset used the flag as their symbol? I am not sure how long, but it is many years, probably around 15 years. Why hasn't it been brought up before? Racism hasn't just been invented! Whichever way one defends Somerset's likely innocent use of the flag as a club symbol, the pressure on the club to drop it's use, is likely to be too much. As someone else said, they can't afford the bad publicity. Perhaps the Somerset 'Rebel' symbol could be related to a modern day British rebel. Perhaps a caricature of a Punk Rocker! -

The Flag has been around for a long time Alan......when did the black people of southern USA decide it was a symbol of racism? If they always have, then fair enough, but if it is a relatively recent thing, then 'someone' has jumped on some kind of band wagon. -

Until recently and I am 57, I had no idea that the confed flag had connections with slavery, but I do now! The trouble with all this PC bullshine, is it often stirs up things that were not there. We have the situation with the statue of Cecil Rhodes, did I know he had connections with apartheid? No, but I do now! Have these revelations enriched my life? Not at all, just let's me know there are a number of people out there, willing to drag up the past and cause agro. -

No go......you may upset the medical profession! -
Actually, the charge of 'racism, general hypocripsy and bullying' was aimed at TWK, by phillipsr, which is utter nonsense and was 'liked' by those angelic forum posters Blazeaway, The Doctor and Jacques, the Three Billy Goats Gruff! no hang on, they are the Trolls!
-
It's all very well taking 'the Michael', but my point is and I believe I am correct, Lydd and SITRA (Iwade) are run outside of the BSPA and probably the ACU and SCB, therefore, it is already happening and therefore could happen at the new venture in Wales. If the new venture are to hold track days for road racers and racing cars, why not for speedway bikes? (obviously on a speedway track!).
-
The riders at Lydd are amateurs. They do have the odd meeting, but just for fun. The main purpose is training. I believe they do have ex riders riding there and ex riders helping out and giving advice. Yes, it is a 'track in a field', but it gives a lot of people a lot of pleasure, which in my opinion, is what it is all about.
-
Below is a link to a video, taken from Youtube. Lydd speedway, July 2015. Just copy below and place in Google. I think they have a nice track and appear to have a nice set up. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ai8whLEbdhA
-
Therefore, I presume the insurance is for the spectators/staff/mechanics. Moto-X and Grass Track meetings must have insurance. Surely a non-BSPA or ACU affiliated set-up, could obtain insurance from the same source the BSPA and ACU use?
-
From what I have seen of SITRA and Lydd, I wouldn't call them Cowboy! And definitely no! No track should be run without insurance.
-
There are 2 tracks which, I believe, operate outside the BSPA. Lydd in Kent and SITRA (Iwade) Kent. Surely the BSPA can't have an absolute monopoly?
-
All the qualifications needed to be a BSF member these days!

Just need to get TWK back and everything will be back to 'normal'!
