Maybe, the plot thickens?

That is sad news. Never met the man, but a name that has been around speedway, it seems, forever! RIP Mr Drury

I thought a new stadium is being built? I thought it was the promoters who have thrown in the towel? Although, I'm sure the situation is not as simple as my comment.
-
Because the stadium owners and it has been speedway promoters in the past, like Sandhu, looking to 'cash in their chips'! Promoter stadium owners, pretending they have speedway's best interest, when the only interest they have, is in themselves! Another example, the Pugh's, Cradley Heath!

This sounds a bit like...Whatever happened to Slough Speedway?

Steve Webb was the pensions minister, a few years back, during the coalition! I think he was a Liberal MP?

Very often, when a speedway promotion say 'we are taking a year out', it's the end. I can't see how speedway in the next 12 months, as a whole, is going to turn things around, for a promoter to say 'now is the time to run a team'. All very sad. Unfortunately, I said many years ago that speedway had to change and the costs were too high for those involved, but time after time (on here), I was told I was being negative. No, I was being realistic. The riders and the tuners have killed a sport, which at best, should have been, for many years, a semi-professional sport or even better, an amateur sport. Speedway will survive, but team/league racing will disappear in Britain, in my opinion.

Thurrock Hammers ??
Ray Stadia replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I have sent a message to Phil, part of the admin team. I will let you know if and when I get an answer. PS I have noticed 'The White Knight' has posted a note to Phil on 'Forum Announcements', saying he is having the same issue. Sounds like a general problem. -

The land used to be a sand pit/quarry. There was/is a 4x4 track there and a fishing lake. It is possible, that part of the area will be used for an industrial site type area, which doesn't need the same regulations/permissions as dwelling homes, for the data centre and a portion of the land for sport/recreation? It would cover all bases! -
I seem to recall there were plans, et al!

I think that circuit was in the film 'Rush', where James Hunt first started. I have a strong feeling that's long gone. I would imagine, it is the athletics stadium?

Blame the Pughs!

I have heard of his name. Sad. RIP Peter

It gives me no pleasure to be the first to post that Gordon Kennett has passed away. What a great rider and ambassador for the sport. RIP Gordon

They could afford to!

Peterborough Speedway - petition
Ray Stadia replied to Mick Bratley's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Sadly, Peterborough and Woverhampton will disappear, at least for the foreseeable. Until Speedway gets real and understands the model doesn't work in the 21st century, speedway will continue to decline and disappear. It needs to reinvent itself, but league racing, in its current format, is dead in the water, in my my opinion. -
Yes! That's the chap! It was quite tragic the way Newport went.
-
I think this is a perfect example of how the current speedway model isn't working. This is a club which is in the 3rd, in other words, an amateur stepping stone division. Why should the riders expect payment and have their tyres bought for them. What other motorcycle dirt sport pays the riders to ride! It's a crazy way to operate speedway, certainly in the 3rd division. I feel so sorry for this poor chap and his family. Reminds me of the situation the Newport promoter found himself in and was working day and night to keep the club going! Tim (I forget his surname).
