  1. I thought, when they were constructing the track, they said they had security in place! Northfield was turned over, before the new set-up. I'm sure it was suggested then, it was the scourge of our nation, whose description begins with G and ends in s!
  2. Thank you Rusky. Condolences to Graham's family.
  3. RIP Graham, however, maybe someone could put up a bit of information on Graham's connection to speedway, as I didn't know him, but would like to hear about the chap.
  4. Wasn't there a Mexican speedway rider called Speedy Gonzales?
  5. What is p***k...Plonk? 'Plonk' is slang for wine, I believe!
  6. I hope it does happen for 2025, but the guy is already talking about 'pulling the plug'!
  7. So, some speedway riders definitely aren't holier than thou! For a professional sport, that's unprofessional behaviour! (and mean).
  8. I agree, it is possible the tabloids could get create a negative story, if Jason was allowed back into the sport, but Oscar Wilde said 'there's only one thing worse than being talked about and that's not being talked about'. Is it likely a planning officer/committee would have it brought to their attention that 'speedway employs convicted criminals'? They seem to worry about how the surrounding public are going to be affected, such as: Will the roads be able to take the extra traffic, will the stadium have adequate parking, will the environment be affected, will the greasy motor bike types cause trouble in the area, the noise polution, etc etc
  9. Was Jason a good 'spares van' customer then?
  10. I don't see why speedway riders must be holier than thou, to be riders. I'm pretty sure many riders have a 'back catalogue' or skeletons in their cupboard. Many boxers have skeletons and back catalogues. I do understand speedway promoters getting worried about the affect on their gates. On the other hand, he might be a draw. 'Come and see the bad boy come good'!
  11. I did get that, I mean if he can prove he can behave in other aspects of the sport, it could open a door or two for him in Speedway?
  12. He could start off in Grass Track to prove himself and maybe a promoter may give him a chance at a later stage? Also, there is the Isle of Wight?
  13. Because you have to travel hundreds of miles to find a speedway track these days!
  14. Very sad to hear of his passing. Condolences to his family. As mentioned, John was a latecomer to the sport, having been an accomplished scrambles rider, but soon rose throught the ranks! Amazing! RIP
  15. What a mess! Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it is a pity Len Silver didn't protect the club a bit better, when he passed the reins to someone else. Especially as speedway was lost before, but miraculously came back!
  16. What I am suggesting, is speedway fans say tracks are lost due to promoters only renting the stadium, but speedway has been lost, when promoters own their stadiums!
  17. The point I was making, is the loss of speedway tracks/teams, is not just Osborne. As for Coventry, Cradley Heath and I think Stoke and maybe Somerset, they did own the tracks, but that didn't save speedway.
  18. But, can you blame Osbourne for:- Lakeside, Rye House, Wimbledon, Hackney, Wolverhampton, Stoke, Boston, Eastbourne, Newport, Exeter, Cradley Heath..........etc etc!
  19. Would a track fit in there? But, looks like an indusrial area. Would the rugby club be interested, do you think?
  20. Yes, but maybe there is land in Warwickshire, similar?
  21. That is all true, but if the council are onside, surely that has to be a great boost! There must be some free land in Warwickshire? Actually, Workington must have needed council help, as the track, as I recall, was just a training track. Different to being a fully fledged league track, with traffic and parking to consider. And perhaps environmental issues.
  22. I don't know why these developers like to create so much conflict. If the land is so valuable for housing, why doesn't the developer work with the action group and the council, so a 3 way committee, to find a piece iof land, unsuitable for development, but ideal for a speedway track and build a stadium similar to Workington. Yes, a track in field, but what has been achieved at Workington, I think is marvelous. That way, BE get to build their houses, the council get more council tax and speedway gets Coventry Speedway again.
  23. But who would be the various motor sports? Stock Cars, Bangers, Flat track? Local authorities haven't got a p to p in!, National Lottery...join the queue! Private/commercial enterprises, what could be in it for them? Maybe dual uses of the stadium, football pitch on the centre green, concert venue? I would imagine BE would think these things would be 'small beer', not money spinning enterprises. I'm not sure what the answer is, except hoping BE are happy to sell and there is a willing buyer, who is dead keen on having Speedway return.
