There's not a cure for flu if you get it. There is a vaccine for a number of flu's, but not all flu's. A doctor would just say keep taking paracetamol and ibuprofen. You can take the 2 together, so a nurse tells me.

I agree. 1918 was a different scenario. Britain just out of a world war and people had poor diets, many under nourished, food in short supply, some living in squalid surroundings, no NHS, people out of work, lack of money, no benefit system, overcrowding in many cities.

Following on from Arch Stanton's post, there is an interesting article on BBC news online, where it is being suggested the modelling process, which the experts use, is possibly flawed. The suggestion, is the experts are not allowing for overlap in their models. In other words, they are not sure how many people would have died with or without the virus. Or in other words, whether CV adds to the death rate. Please don't shoot me down in flames, I'm only saying what I saw on the BBC website. The article also worries about the social and economic damage and suggests that could cost lives too. I do feel the government are 'firefighting' without properly considering the unintended consequences.

The usual BSF mantra 'you are not allowed to have another opinion'.

And why do you think businesses are going to the wall? Because we are in virtual total lock down. So, when we eventually emerge from this epidemic, we won't have much of a country to carry on with. I'm not a young person with the attitude that 'it won't happen to me', I'm in my 60s, so probably in the higher end of risk, but I still feel total hysteria is making things worse. Why is it people like you, say people are speaking garbage when you don't agree with something? I know why, because you are silly old know it all and your contributions on the BSF over the years have proved that, certainly to me!

I do feel sorry for all those who are self employed and those that live from hand to mouth, which runs into millions. In my opinion, globally, it has become an over blown hysteria. I blame the hysteria on the media and social media, which have both put severe pressure on the worlds governments. If this had happened, say, 10 or 20 years ago, when social media was still in its infancy, it would have been in the news yes, but not wall to wall and 24/7 and it would have been another seasonal virus that we needed to dodge, if possible. But the Genie is out now and God help us all! The worry for me, is not so much the virus, but the way man has reacted across the world. Two words worry me, civil unrest

I remember hearing that story. The engine was virtually the first GM and definitely put GM on the map, so a lot of 'getting it right' would have gone on!

I also remember Dave Lanning interviewing Bruce Penhall and Bruce said he had crossed the boarder (German I presume) in the boot of a car!

Personally, I do not know why enthusiasts who wish to preserve the old teams of speedway, don't find a sympathetic farmer, with land near former tracks and carve a track in a field and don't call it speedway, but something similar, which means it has nothing to do with the BSPA. Then run 'speedway' in a similar way to Grass Track. In my opinion, a 'track in a field', is probably the future/only future for speedway.

The 1983 World Final venue, I really enjoyed that World Final on TV and the birth of the GM engine!

My dad was going to have a go at speedway at Rye House, for it was called a nursery track apparently, but he couldn't get the time off work! I reckon it would have been late 40s!

I think viewing always was difficult there. The last time I went, I was watching speedway through a lattice wire fence, unless things altered later on?
