Presumably the Fundin is beyond the reach of first time buyers!

If anyone thinks a team with Harris and Barker in it isn't exciting then perhaps they should take up Parkour. I want to see a team that entertains. If they win the league so much the better.

Well look what happened when a member of this ever growing sector of the community was attracted to Brandon.

If certain members of the Glasgow team had a good haircut they'd probably go faster. Half of them look like Worzel Gummidge! -
No Aussies In British Speedway 2018
poppetman replied to rocketman77's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Aussie riders have done a lot for British speedway over the years and are always welcome in my book.Just don't call us whinging poms! (Even though there are plenty on this forum) -
The answer's no.

Sums up the 'promoters' attitude in a nutshell. No thought as to how they could make a profit or at least break even. Doesn't really need to be 18 teams.I'm sure a few would prefer to be in the second tier. If you ran a pub that was losing (sorry 'loosing') money would you just water down the beer and hope for the best?

Two home and away makes 68 meetings with no clashes.

One big league with a second division of the existing third tier allowing doubling up. Then riders get the same amount of meetings. An agreed pay scale that is affordable to promoters and if the riders don't like it get another job.Too much tail wagging the dog these days. Chapman was right to give Holder a slap for his arrogance. Anyway it's not top riders that guarantee good racing it's evenly balanced sides. If you want big money Poland's the place. The sport in this country is only professional in that people get paid to do it.In every other respect it's amateur. Rye have got an important meeting at Belle Vue tonight and r/r for their no.1 who's at Peterborough!!! Weeks without a meeting and now all these double headers and running on off nights.I was going to say you couldn't make it up but that's exactly what the 'promoters' do on a daily basis. Rant over!

Poole Pirates Vs Kings Lynn Stars 12/07/17
poppetman replied to Shaleshifter's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
As a neutral congrats to Kings Lynn--nice to see Mr.Smug and his sidekick getting a slap again. -
It was Leicester 1969 who used the same seven riders in every match for the entire season. As far as I'm aware the only occasion this has happened.

You forgot the quotation marks round the word top.

Eight weeks between Saturday night league matches--May 20th.Somerset then July 15th. Wolves.(again) and this at the height of the season! Shambles or what?
-
Oh surely not.

The new track looks a good bit wider which probably has as much effect on the quality of racing as any other factors. -

My Top 20 Riders On Current Form
poppetman replied to Barrow Boy 2's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Which other sport penalises teams who are successful? Insists that riders who are popular with the fans and want to ride for a club are sacked because their 'average' (half the time assessed anyway and therefore meaningless) is 0.02 too high. Wholesale changes every year and we all know even at this point in the season the league will be won by either Poole,Belle Vue or Wolverhampton anyway! Fans will turn out to see a successful team even if they know their own team are likely to be beaten by them. If there was some continuity in teams then perhaps the sport could build a solid fan base instead of being down to the hard core fans as has been the case for a long time now. The only plus side I can see in the current set up is riders are so familiar with tracks, having ridden for most them at some point in their careers that away wins are more prevalent. We've finally got a go ahead promotion at Rye House now and good luck to them but I do wonder how long it will be before they say sod this for a lark and build a second go kart track in the stadium. -
My Top 20 Riders On Current Form

When are you people and esp.the BSPA going to wake up to the fact that averages mean nothing and only deny clubs the riders they want to use and the fans the riders they want to see! -
Rye House V Poole 22/4/17. 7pm.
poppetman replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Don't know why teams bother signing riders these days. There should just be a huge pool of riders and the first seven available get used on a match by match basis! -
If the BSPA were publicans they'd water down the beer in the hope of attracting new punters.
-
So Ed--paid 13 for Lakesiede 23/7 1 from 3 for Rye House 24/7 Wha'happen bruv?
-
The constant rebuilding of teams every season doesn't exactly help people to identify with a team as in the 'good old days' but I suppose the other side of the coin is that riders are familiar with a lot more tracks hence the less predictable results we see nowadays.IMHO speedway's main problem is one of image.I've always believed that given a professional makeover by someone from outwith the sport--even change the name god forbid--speedway could be easily as popular as the mainstream sports. But of course there is the question of both the entrenched attitudes and (some of) the stadia!!!
-
There is one simple and inexpensive way to improve racing--let the riders practice before the start of a meeting instead of having to second guess their set up.
-
Why are they wearing Monarch's colours?
-
What was wrong with the Ronnie Russell era? Burt, Razza and o'Brien giving it their all,Simmo preparing the track, top notch mike man in Rob McCaffery. No trophies but so what--entertainment guaranteed!
