  1. Forgive the possible ignorance on all that goes on in the NL but one of the things that seems to affect the riders/clubs is the lack of meetings (and I mean not just due to the weather) and track time and this will get worse if you have fewer tracks operating. Therefore would it be possible to have the league meetings, the KO cup meetings and a NL British Championship where every track gets to hold one or two rounds of these individual events. Those who find it difficult to operate a league club could be given 'open licences' which use to exist years back so that they could just hold the ocassional individual meeting. And it is probably a no for most speedway followers but why not have mixed meetings with speedway and short track if that is what it takes to keep the various marginal tracks operating until better times come along. Why does it just have to be speedway, why not festivals of speed with other two wheeled motor bikes who could race on shale. Afterall, what stops short track riders formimg teams as well to run alongside the speedway. While the EL and PL do what they do, it is the grass roots level where perhaps they could make a stand and with a mix of disciplines and show what an evening of two wheeled entertainment could be about.
  2. As this is now going ahead, does anyone know if they are using the 31st October for the 16 lapper?
  3. Can some help? What is the best way to get from the centre of Birmingham (I am staying in town near New Street station) to Wolverhampton for this meeting?
  4. Suffolk Coastal District Council really do not seem to like the idea of motor sport being held at Foxhall and it this appears to be a catch all document. A real eye opener and shows the difficulties for both sports. Does this cahnge every year/get signed annually or is it cast in stone for the foreseeable future.
  5. Thanks for the feedback. I was just interested in the reasons behind Thursday night racing and not making a suggestion of an alternative night. More of a question of why Thursday and how it came about rather than say a Friday night. Some people on here really do jump to the wrong reasons and Mr Snackette's answer did even deal with the question just gave an opinion about Friday night teams. About as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
  6. It might seem a daft question but why do the Witches race on Thursday rather than say a Friday? I know when they were in the Elite they had a Saturday meeting against Swindon and got a very good crowd. Would Friday nights not improve that attendances?
  7. Could Northside be used as a track and perhaps funded in part by the speedway authorities who would match Pound for pound any sponsorship. Alternatively, have the league campaign with full teams and then seek support from Elite league or Premier league clubs to run a mini league as second halves with four man teams to take on those riders without a club. Surely it would be cheaper to find sponsoship for four man teams then seven and if necessary regionalise it with an overall top four knock out final at the end of the season to decide the overall championship. Better than letting talent go to waste.
  8. Not read through all the pages so sorry if these have already been stated but just a few I can think of Brian Foote / Arthur Price Barney Kennett / Geoff Maloney Rayleigh / Eastbourne Rayleigh / Romford Rayleigh / Canterbury Ted Hubbard / Any opposition Terry Stone / Clean bikes Len Silver / Dave Lanning Johnnie Hoskins / Len Silver
  9. The GP has its merits and perhaps if it were sufficiently financially rewarding to run as a stand alone competition along the lines of F1 then the choice would be easy for the riders. You hear that it costs them so much money to participate and I know it gets the riders noticed on the world stage and may help them command bigger salaries from the various domestic teams they ride for but as a competition where is it going given the outside factors now starting to impact on the rider participation. You really do not want to see a competition made up almost entirely of Poles. I don't know the answer to the qualifying process and the wild cards seem to be a unfair on those who have just missed out on qualifying by riding various rounds. Perhaps they should do away with the wild card from each country for each round. Instead run the competition with a pool of riders and draw them randomly with no rider allowed to compete in more than say five rounds then all those in the 'pot' would get a chance to compete. The riders for the next round could be drawn at the end of each GP. Then the final would be the top leading scorers at the end of say eleven rounds who go through to the final. .
  10. Why not try the Isle of Wight, a good track for real racers.
  11. Has anyone ever looked at the possibility of talking to the owners the Newmarket go kart circuits, Red lodge or Wildtracks Karting to see if they would be interested in having a speedway track at the venues. I know it is not Mildenhall but it is close and while it is a long shot, for NL racing with limited racing calendar and the location of both tracks they could draw on the Fen Tigers current supporters and noise should not be too much of an issue. It would be a shame to not keep the club going in one form or another and perhaps these type of venues could offer some stability given that they already hold motor sport.
