2024

So developments to date look like Birmingham Wolves to run on a MONDAY in the PL and IMO p.off winners Glasgow joining the PL on a Monday. The CL looks to lose 2 clubs unless the Workington Comets can be helped to step up. Dont see any future for the NDL in 2024 , with Kent joining NORA after their shabby treatment by BSP Ltd this season, and surely Mildenhall will no longer continue ? -
Peterborough Panthers 2023

All this nonsense about a speedway club NAME having some notional value seems a load of tosh to me. Why would Mr New Promoter need to buy a name when he could apply to open up a new track that he had just built to the required standard nearby and call it maybe Sawtry Stars Speedway Ltd. Why would you want to buy "Peterborough Panthers", or Eastbourne Eagles or Rye House Rockets or Lakeside Hammers ????? They surely are worthless names? There's all this tosh about having to have a promoters "licence " .... just send Mr New Promoter an application form for a new "licence". The asset value of a speedway business surely is limited to the value of the lights, airfence, tractors and grading equipment and some quantity of track material? -
Sadly that's the most likely outcome IMO . Whatever happens to BE at this hearing , they cannot be forced to sell THEIR land and why would they want to consider renting THEIR land to anyone ? ?

Shower of rain here 5 mins ago. Looks like Poole will be OK as heavy rain forecast at 2200. Poole to win easily tonight against lets be honest a 4 man Glasgow side. R/R and 2 reserves who will do well to beat a Poole rider. A slick track with no outsied racing line should see Poole home comfortably, as I don't see Bomber making the gate more than once, Tarasenko's gating was poor on Monday. Basso shopuld be OK as a former Poole man and w2ill cope withe slick conditions. 54 - 36 Poole.

Simple solution to the situation of less than 15 heats being raced in the second leg due to poor weather ... the score at the same stage in the 1st leg should be used. Almost certain that material is being shovelled off the Poole track by the truckload as I write to give a slick surface in case of rain, oh and to prevent any outside passing lines for Bomber Harris. Gate Artists extraordinaire Lawson and Worrall will be like Pirates in a Galleon.

"Sadly, the bigger picture to the BSPL will be that it was a classic season. Underdogs reach the final, a huge comeback by Sheffield that went down to the wire. Regardless of Lambert coming in for the final, they will see it that GP riders want to be involved in British Speedway. By bringing Birmingham in to replace Wolves gives the league credibility again in their eyes, despite Brummies not being there on any sort of merit but having spent the last 5yrs flirting with the wooden spoon and survival! But still the BSPL think everything is rosy in the garden.... " yup ... sadly no need for any changes as it has been such a successful season ....... article i read in the Star quoted Birmiongham as being 80/20 likely to run in 2024 with only Mondays available thus obliging them to apply to run in the PL, and only for a 1 year lease courtesy of the greyhound promotion a Perry Barr. Hardly a a long term future, and speedway seems to stagger along year by year. Credit where credit is due though seems this season the PL p. offs and the KO Cup have been completed in a timely manner.

Mr. Woffinden disgraced himself again ( not for the first time) Last time he attacked a supporter, now he verbally abuses Ipswich on network TV. A very poor advert for the sport, genrating the WRONG type of publicity. A "WILD card" nomination for the SGP series is appropriate. What with whingeing Lambert (R) on Tuesday and now the swearing Woffinden, our British sports "stars" really do need to be better educated when speaking to the media.

Here we go again….. trying to run speedway in the wettest place in the UK at the beginning of winter. No doubt that Poole will find a dry Wednesday way before Glasgow have a dry day this side of Xmas. So disappointed that Oxford fell at the final hurdle - would have been a very well attended local derby vs the cheetahs, rather than a remote contest attended by a sprinkling of away supporters.
