Oxford Cheetahs 2022
old bob at herne bay replied to CowleyCheetahs's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Makes you wonder what the BSPL are actually trying to promote…. Their own bank accounts I think - certainly not the sport. Time for Oxford to play hard ball with the BSPL. If they have a business plan for Friday night racing, then they need to stick to it. Otherwise Oxford should tell the BSPL to stick their leagues pull out and keep their hard earned money in the bank. As for the premier league ,Seems impossible that any new club will be joining unless they have a fan base that will turn out midweek . -
Will Wolves even be at the tapes in 2022 if there are only 6 clubs….. can you trust the word of the Wolves promotion ?

They could all go to Glasgow and use the COP26 venue ..... and generate some more hot air with no decisions for the future.

Oxford Cheetahs 2022

I am sure Rob will have the figures, but from my memory changing from Saturday night racing to midweek racing halved the attendance and killed Rye House. So the BSPA did the damage with fixed race nights. Finished Poole off in the PL too. Promotion were naive in expecting crowds to turn up fighting the midweek horrendous traffic on the M25. I rarely made it to a midweek meeting from here......M2 , Dartford Tunnel, M25 , A10 ☹️ With hindsight they should have gone CL. Local derbies against Lakeside. -
Barring a complete disaster, Poole have the advantage after the first leg. So much will depend on the first few heats. If Glasgow achieve heat advantages - the home side will probably crumble. If Poole achieve heat advantages - the away side will probably crumble. TBH don't care tuppence for who wins the contrived "p off final" Poole are deserved league champions on the league table. Be glad when this silly charade of a meeting held in early winter is over. So in summary , 10 points advantage from leg 1 might be enough , on the other hand it might not.

Turn left out of the start gate, then left again , then left, left again and pass the starting gate.? Makes for more interesting racing than it used to be at Cowley -
RIP British Speedway

The title of this thread becomes ever more relevant as the 2021 season draws to a close. We have 6 clubs in the Premier League left standing. Of those 6 :- Wolves have announced they will not run unless there are more than 6 clubs next year P/boro have huge question marks over the Showground development ... although this has been ongoing for years. Kings Lynn have a reluctant speedway promoter who would rather run Stock Cars only. No sign of new victims to commit to the PL in 2022. Will Wolves pull out ? We have 9 clubs in the Championship League left standing ( Kent and Birmingham both without promoters) Of those 9 :- Newcastle seem to have effected a rescue package for 2022 ? Poole's landlords seem reluctant for speedway to continue running at Wimborne Road On the bright side :- Oxford may be ready to join in 2022 Eastbourne may rejoin in 2023 We have 5 clubs in the National Development League left standing Of those 5:- one standalone club Mildenhall will surely struggle to run a meaningful fixture list in a league of 5 teams. (The other 4 teams run the NDL as filler fixtures.) A pretty appalling situation for the BSPL to sort out. Are they up to the task of sorting out this mess ? I hope the weather is good wherever they choose to hold their jolly. -
Kent kings are no more ??

Not for the first time I have upset “ Rob McCaffery” and his gallant attempts to resurrect Rye House Speedway. I doubt anyone except “Rob McCaffery” treats my comments as anything but an opinion of a retired long time speedway supporter. Let’s see whether any of these meetings which you report as being positive bear fruit. I agree nothing ventured, nothing gained and wish you success in getting a speedway track reinstated at Hoddesdon. -

Despite the continuing optimism from Rye House ! ! , other than a glimmer of light from Eastbourne for some level of league speedway (in 2023 ?? ) sadly looks like you are correct cityrebel. South Eastern Speedway is finished. Conversely, Grass Track in the South Eastern Centre is thriving with 2 S.E. clubs bidding for the staging of the 2022 Masters championship. , Even at other venues across the UK , it is clear that the speedway operations are a labour of love promoted by enthusiasts paying stadium owners a peppercorn rent compared to the returns that they make from stock cars/banger cars (Kings Lynn/Eastbourne) , or just redeveloping their sites for housing (Peterborough). Sad indictment that even at Poole, (arguably one of the best supported clubs in the country) the landlords say make more money from running a car park than they do from letting the stadium out to speedway. -

I would just like to wish Len and his family a well earned, long, healthy and happy retirement. He has been an ever present during my time as a speedway supporter. He must surely rank amongst the true icons of British Speedway promoters, and I was delighted to see him inducted into the Speedway Hall of Fame this season at Central Park. At 89 years young, he is a truly remarkable man, and I am forever indebted to him for the speedway entertainment he has provided to me over the years. Thank you Len.- 171 replies

Oh ! so you think renting in an "unattached" rider for the night, who has no interest in the club he is riding for, isn't a guest rider ? Splitting hairs in my opinion. Speedway updates calls them Guests as well.

I did wonder how long the relationship would last at Sittingbourne now a new owner has taken over the dog racing at Central Park. I do believe Roger Cearns is no longer involved ? So that's Kent , Birmingham, Newcastle, and Poole all with dodgy landlords. It is amazing that landlords of stadia seem happy to take NO RENT AT ALL from a tenant rather than a modest increase. It's hardly likely that they have a queue of new tenants with bulging wallets .......... unless the ulterior motive is to run the stadia into the ground with no sporting activities and then sell out for mega bucks to a property developer.(or a car park entrepreneur) -

Dan specifically says the Kent Kings won’t be running in 2022. Maybe the accountant has sent the Kings 2022 accounts to Len . Running CL with Scott and Troy must have cost a few Bob. No local derbies exist for Kent in the CL since the demise of EB …crowds seemed no bigger than the usual NDL turnout other then EB fixtures. Maybe it’s just a third tier side that will be operating in 2022. ? Maybe access to the track with the greyhound people is problematic in 2022? Maybe planning permission is again an issue ? Maybe Len has decided to take a well earned retirement ? All will become clear in next weeks Speedway Star ? -
Interesting and upbeat news for speedway on the South Coast, and a very quick turn around after the clubs 2021 demise at the hands of Mr Jordan. Remarkable that Trevor Gear is able to claim “it had nothing to do with me guv” and quickly be given a promoters licence. Still don’t get who the money man is bringing the club back to the tapes. Trevor Gear is a well respected TM at Eastbourne, but don’t have him down as the promoter fronting and funding the business side of things. 2023 is a way off and let’s hope there is some speedway still struggling along in one two or three leagues.

wouldn't it be ironic if it pissed down next Wednesday at Poole and the BSPL declared the result after only one leg ! Poole should run their leg whenever they have a dry day and have a number of Glasgow supporters booked to travel. Suspect they will get nil away and neutrals support for their leg if they keep delaying at short notice in order to satisfy their desire to hold the "second leg"

Not for the first time, and certainly not the last, UK speedway demonstrating how inept they are at running the most prestigious meetings of the season in early winter. How they all must rue the COC's earlier in the season in much better conditions, which have led to the farcical fixture congestion we have seen in the past few weeks. ( COC's are cancellations of convenience )

I disagree "1 valve" we have the speculative threads of Poole and Swindon both in the Premeirship section .... and it is no secret the the PL are looking to increase numbers of teams, whilst the CL are not. Jason Doyle would be a key figurehead signing - bringing a number of ex Swindon fans along to Cowley ? Hans Nielsen as TM ? -
What ? Were you there PotteringAround. ? I counted 3 gusts terrry daley and sealey for the Royals , and Muff for the Colts !
