Vinnie Foord - is he too dangerous?
old bob at herne bay replied to BackInTheDHSS's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Yup 100% . Surprised it hasn't already happened tbh. Referees will also be keeping an eye on his every "move" and he'll find his exclusion light on in every " incident" whether or not he was to blame. -
Think they were well and truly shafted by the previous “promoter” of speedway at Arlington. Once bitten twice shy.

Cannot see how “Eastbourne” can run at Iwade in the NDL when previously the SCB closed down Kent’s NDL team last season under threat of legal action ?? if they are allowed , then surely Kent can run in the NDL again ?

Not a great weather forecast for Poole on Wednesday. Always a risk with these early winter meetings. As for the result , think Winnie Fooord won it last week by taking out 2 Oxford riders. Seems he has literally KO'd Killeen out of the KO Cup. 😞 So a hollow Poole victory is on the cards ...assuming they can find a dry Wednesday befor the end of October.

How very sad. Len was one of the true PROMOTERS of speedway. A decent rider in his younger days - Provincial League Riders Champion - injury meant Len taking up the Promoter reins at Hackney. As a PROMOTER he had no equal, and we will not see his like again in the sport. He always put 100% into PROMOTING his clubs from his early days at Hackney through to his construction and Promotion at Sittingbourne. R.I.P. Leapin' Len and Thank You for providing me with some great Speedway Entertainment over the past 60 + years.

Schroek - blimey thats a blast from the past. Think the inclusion of him in the then "National League" opened the floodgates for foreing riders into the 2nd tier. He's clearly a blooming useless TM ... teed up the interval to give Killeen a good rest , and he fluffs it by putting out of sorts Boughen in. Poole should walk this at Wimpborne Road. Their only weak link is Hagon, and he can be covered by the two reserves. Muddleditch will make no mistakes in his choice of reserve replacements.

Mmmm Bartosz is good there’s no doubt about that, and if he continues will join one of the greats such as Fundin Mauger Rickardsson. IMO Fundin is the “GOAT” due to his consistency of World Final appearances throughout his career. Mauger won more finals, but not as consistently as Fundin. These young lads such as Hancock et al Aren’t old enough to remember these riders who rode in one off finals, with a tortuous path of one off qualifiers to get there.

Sadly most sports commentary teams now have to carry a female presenter to show " equal rights" and all that stuff. Speedway is no different to Football, and Cricket (where the male commentators seem to be in the minority) Wouldn't mind if they got their jobs on merit. Dont think BSN are beyond criticism either, their "team" has driven me away from subscribing to their coverage. They all tend to state the flipping obvious, and actually add very little to the vision on screen. They just dont know when to keep quiet , and when to comment. Their lack of in depth knowledge of the sport is often cruelly exposed. Tatum is probably the best of the bunch of the ex riders , an eloquent speaker with some public school phrases that he pulls out of the hat... but tries too hard to make every heat sound like its "super speedway ". Sadly Nigel Pearson left a huge gap in speedway sports commentary 😞 Wonder how long it will be before we get more sophisticated race analysis , like lap by lap timing, average speed and time over the first 30 yards etc etc. -
Young Dan Ford is as soppy as his Father juding by his post on the Poole Website:- Poole promoter Dan Ford said: “We know that nothing is actually won yet, but the boys were formidable at Scunthorpe on Sunday and have put us in a very strong position of being the only club to win this competition. Well you would be as its the first time the competiotion has been staged !!!!!

Speedway Farce - Play Off
old bob at herne bay replied to TheReturn's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I have always called them the P.Offs (and you can guess what my P means. Totally ridiculous driven only by the TV folks who want to televise the two meetings that decide who is the " top team" in the season. Decided on wet tracks in early winter, teams patched up with gusts due to injuries, all decided on a one off (or two off) set of meetings. Fine if its the KO Cup thats a knock out meeting, but teams performances over the season count for nought. With postponements and racing on off nights the meetings are a nightmare to organise. Rule fiddling to get fixtures P.Offs meetings agreed before the league fixtures are completed, Leicester's boglands track always seems to feature, Poole demanding that they have the second leg at home ...all causing fixture planning havoc and frankly devaluing the entire season jsut to win the P.Offs. If your are unlucky enough not to qualify for the P. Offs (its not easy with only 7 teams starting out in the race) then you season finishes some time in August . They'll never go cos' the TV people demand that they have a P.Off to make good viewing .. but why not still have League Champions, and the P.FFs could be renamed the TV Trophy or summat similar?? -
Well well , Poole strike lucky again, visiting a side clearly depleted by an unfortunate chain of events. Poole must have been under a flock of seagulls and got heavily coated in the stuff the amount of luck that has landed on them. Must have dented Scunthorpe morale from Heat 1 when their stand in No.1 fell. He later scored sod all, hardly a number 1 contribution. With hindsight (always a precious commodity) R/R must have been the correct call. Walk in the park on Wednesday .... weather permitting. Scunthorpe I guess will use R/R. Then onto a pair of meetings against injury hit Oxford. Jenkins out, and now I read Jody Scott is injured. The list goes on... meanwhile with so much rain around and postponements , Poole's only injured rider B. Cook is likely to have recovered in time for both meetings v Oxford. Suspect he will get a try out in the dead rubber on Wednesday.

Time to sack Phil Morris?
old bob at herne bay replied to RoundTheBoards's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Like the Titanic, UK speedway hit the iceberg a while ago, and is slowly sinking, with multiple holes below the waterline. The band keeps playing, but one by one the lifeboats with clubs aboard, leave the sinking ship with just a hard core of clubs clinging to the wreckage. The present bunch of promoters are trying to keep it afloat anfpd it might make it to its centenary in 2028. 😂 -
and will do sod all about. Mr Morris was there too and equally will do sod all about it. Probably lodge a complaint that the countdown clock was in the wrong place, or something equally important. On a completely unrelated topic, I read that betting was allowed on the result of the P.Off semi final.

Do speedway referees get marked on their performances by league official in attendance at these P.Off meetings? Putting the result to one side, referee Turnbull had a really poor meeting , making some blatant errors. She is clearly not of a standard to referee these prestige meetings. Maybe a more experienced referee ought to be selected for these high pressure meetings.

Oxford completely banjaxed by losing 2 in form riders. Scunthorpe should be able to keep this closed in the Cowley leg, and take the aggregate win overall, then lose to Poole in the P.Off final. Unlucky Oxford at the business end of the season, who at full strength would have beaten Poole on aggregate.
