Leicester lions 2023 (PREMIERSHIP)
old bob at herne bay replied to PhilTheAce's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
If spectators don’t turn up in sufficient numbers at Leicester on an “off night “ doesn’t matter whether they have experience running in the prem at other tracks. Wonder what persuaded them to risk their money as a very successful outfit in the CL to join the failing “Premier” league . Ego? -

Probably the most recent example of how a change of race night causes a club to fold was Rye House. Highly successful in the premier league racing on Saturdays, crowds plummeted when they were forced to race midweek in the premier league. That was the beginning of the end for the “Rockets” -

Praising just the robust business model that the Fords operate. Stick to Wednesday night racing has been their aim, and full marks to them for not being “persuaded” to move. -
CHAMPIONSHIP PLANS FOR ’23
old bob at herne bay replied to Gazc's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Until such time as we get riders coming into championship who aspire and are happy to ride as semi professional/ part time riders attached to just one club in the Championship then there will continue to be a rider shortage. Every rider interviewed in the Speedway Star from the raw rookie of 15 years old is now looking to be an SGP champion. if they cont make it in 3 years they retire from speedway and go grasstracking. Seem everyone now has to aspire to be a future SGP rider with a massive sponsored van, a team of mechanics, a stable of several bikes and unsurprisingly demand a pay packet to support all these overheads. Maybe this is a product of the drive to see every rider in the team to increase their CMA. having a steady second string in your team just isn't good enough anymore. -
IS CVS continuing promoting on his own at Monmore ? I read in the programme at the end of lat season strong hints about him looking for support on the promotional side of the business.

Could be Leicester's last season. Seen too many clubs succumb to the lure of the "Premier" league and fail after having to change race night. Leicester should have taken advice from their arch enemies down on the south coast who remain operating successfully on the night that their paying spectators want to see speedway. -
Any sign of clarification at the AGM to clear up the " transfer Window" fiasco that allowed a coach and horses to be driven through the gates of this years p.off final ? Or do we still have double glazed transfer windows ?

I thought this was a joke post initially, but now people have responded and "King Jamie" has invented a rule called referees discretion ! Can you imagine how long meetings would meander on for after the 15th " 50/50 " decision on the last lap and we had all 4 back. Referees would just never take the difficult decisions and opt for the "50/50" rule every time anyone rode with 2 feet of another rider and someone fell. The riders would be sliding off at every opportunity to claim a "50/50" ruling all 4 back. This crazy idea is open to so much mis interpretation and abuse that it is a non starter.

What about Lambert that BV signed at the end of last season?
-
I would be very surprised if BV and Lambert can “agree terms” for 2023. The stunt pulled for the p offs was a one off ( ok a two off) deal that would be unaffordable for an entire season. Anyhow isn’t he is on the long term injury list after falling off a kids bike in the play park ?

Some of the all Australian team suggestions on here will never happen with the work permit regulations ……
-
Indeed what is the point ? Pretentiously named the "National Speedway Stadium" it is in fact owned by the local council, and has to be rented like most other speedway venues in use in the UK. With admission charges amongst the highest in the UK , strongly suspect the rent isn't affordable for a meeting running in early winter with 2 "away" teams taking part.

If these Aussies have pre booked airline tickets on a non flexible fare basis they stand to lose their money if they have to rebook. .... notwithstanding the additional costs of tickets nearer Xmas and their availilability. Think I read from Leicester trackman that all the surplus water in the drainage sump has to be bowsered off by tractor driving over the lentgh of one of the straights on the track - which must make the track like a ploughed field. Lets ee how Buster gets on at KL . Many yeras ago I was always impressed with KL drainage system , but hey that was when the boys rode 2 valve bikes and used trials style tyres which could be ridden in the wet. Last chance saloon to run this meeting must be by the end of this week. ??

Just the tip of the iceberg Auntie Doris ….2023 sees Edinburgh and Peterborough on their last season at their current locations. Beggars belief that even with so few sides operating they still cannot complete the seasons fixtures before winter. The Jubilee cup now postponed to 2023 …..between sides who will scarcely be recognisable from the line ups in 2022.
-
Agree that more forceful control of fixtures needs to be imposed on clubs to ensure we are not trying to race in early winter. Forfeiting matches with 1 point per club for cancelled meetings after a cut off date. Banning testimonial meetings until after cut off dates as these should be “filler fixtures “ . Running meetings every week throughout the summer with no breaks for non speedway excuses ( local football matches , etc ) Leicester speedway clearly need to undertake and invest in some improvement works to their track drainage system before next season. Having to drive water bowsers along the already sodden track to empty the drainage sump seems a recipe for disaster.

Fromafar yes agree with you 100%. Problem is getting anyone in "promoter land" to even acknowledge that there is a problem. Once has a conversation with a " promoter" who IMO was foolishly taking his club up to he 1st Division. " it's my club, my money and I'll run it how I want to " was his reply. Well his money run out, the foray into Division 1 was a disaster from which the club never recovered. I tar them all with the same brush with VERY FEW exceptions.
