How different it was in my day. Made the journey up to Saddlebow Road to support the West Ham Hammers. Arrived at teh track and it was wet - they had a downpour probably an hour before start time. There were riders huddling in the pits and I thought I had made a wasted journey. Then the announcer came on and said Olle Nygren the West Ham captain had agreed to test the track. Well Olle by Golly didnt spare the horses going from a practice start full chat into the pits bend which looked sodden wet. The dirt flew and Olle flew round for a couple of laps inside and outside. The bikes warmed up and we wer treated to a pretty decent nights racing. Today the promoters call it off based on a " dodgy forecast" , a damaged pits gate hinge, a clash with a football match ....... no wonder they get so few visiting fans attending. Even the home supporters are losing interest.

Are Poole Pirates still running ? Seems no fixtures for a while in 2024 and I read on here folks talking about " all sorted" for NEXT year (2025?) All rather sad if they have had to close down mid season ??

FIM Woman's Speedway Gold Trophy
old bob at herne bay replied to secsy1's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
What rubbish chunky. No other sport has such a category. My point was that women may find a more level playing field if they ran a separate womens speedway , and were not made to compete with men. This would IMHO attract more young girls into the sport. -
FIM Woman's Speedway Gold Trophy

Seems to me that the FIM and Speedway across the World need to make up their mind on this one... either men and women can compete against each other as is the case now, or they need to insist that men and women have their own separate competitions. -

Good to see Lakeside junior Sam Hagon progress. Brings back memories of seeing him cruise round Lakeside in the junior demo races. -

West Ham marching on tune
old bob at herne bay replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in Years Gone By
Nor old, Thank you, that’s very useful. Did think that blowing bubbles was the football team song ! -
Hi, My 95 year old father passed away at the weekend, and as a lifelong West Ham supporter we were thinking of playing the marching on tune at his funeral. Trouble is I cannot remember it - I'm forever blowing bubbles is one I remember but i don't think that was the marching on music? Anyone on here can help please ?

"not open to the general public sadly !! " "ST holders only " That's the way to get British Speedway off to a good start in 2024 . Bloomin' hopeless the lot of them. "promoters" my a**e Kings Lynn appear to be more inclusive - good luck the them.
