Very sad to hear. I remember Russ at Sunderland. Condolences to his Family and friends. R.I.P. +

I find most people on here fair and balanced in their Postings. There are a few, (they know who they are), who are just bullies who seem to like making people's lives a misery for no apparent reason other than their own personal pleasure. However you can still have a decent discussion and even disagreement on here with most folks. I enjoy discussing things with most people.

They were the best around the outside that I saw.

Tom Farndon...the Greatest Speedway Rider Of Them All
The White Knight replied to customhouseregular's topic in Years Gone By
I think I would be prepared to pay big money to watch that Meeting Steve. You have got the real Royalty of Speedway there. It is a hell of a field of Riders. Ken Le Breton for Reserve - in case someone never turned up. -

Looking back through my 'Vintage Speedway' and 'Classic Speedway' Magazines it occurs to me that sadly I missed Speedway's truly great years, due to being too young. Not often you can say that about anything. -
Great Thread - good luck with it SCB. :approve:

Then you were indeed privileged. I admire both Fundin and Craven but sadly I never saw them race. I truly wish I had. -
I think I know what you are getting at. :nono:

Already a Thread going on this.

I must admit - The sadly departed Speedway Mail was my preference too.
-
I have a certain sympathy with that viewpoint. If Clubs are in such dire straights - why are they employing Riders that they simply cannot afford? Total madness.
-
It could be a typo of course. I do them sometimes and I am sure you do too.
-
Don't be silly - this is Speedway we are talking about.

I think Redcar have put together a very good Team this year. I wish them luck.

It was a superb Magazine in those days full of useful and interest fact and figures. On occasions it could be pretty hard hitting too. Not these days though........................

Sums Up State Of Speedway Today
The White Knight replied to TonyMac's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
One of my biggest regrets, when I kick off this mortal coil, is the number of Books I would love to have read but couldn't because of lack of time. -
I have said that for years and is another reason it is not value for money. Thank you for that reply Philip. I can actually see where you are coming from there but I still feel the Magazine is overpriced at the moment.

Sums Up State Of Speedway Today

I have read, and own those Books I have highlighted and I also own Michael Lee's Book but haven't read it yet. Len Silver, Booey, Peter Craven and British Speedway Memories are all great reads too. I can recommend all of them. Most are available from Retro Speedway. Book, Old Fashioned. Crumbs!! - give me a proper Book any day. I have a Kindle and have a number of Books on that - I can never seem to be bothered to read them though. I never have that problem with 'proper' Books. Reading is one of my favourite pastimes - I spend a lot of time with my Books. -
Depends on how you view value for money. I buy 'BackTrack' and 'Classic Speedway' Magazines on Subscription and think they are excellent value for money. I don't believe that Speedway Star fits in to that category these days. I used to have it delivered from the Newsagents years ago and in those days, it was indeed value for money. Not now unfortunately.
-
I said "along the lines of MCN". There would not be enough material to have a Paper as thick as that for Speedway. The Speedway Star is too glossy and just too expensive for a Sport that is shrinking in support Season on Season. Just an opinion - but mine is as valid as anyone else's.
-
Not at that Price. Print it along the lines of 'Motorcycle News' and reduce the Price accordingly and I would agree with you. I can concur with all of the highlighted section of your Post. I used to read it from cover to cover too. When I buy it now - I am very selective in what I read and then it is straight in to the bin.
