Because the 'Elite' League was never 'Elite'. The Premier League was never that either - a contradiction in terms. If the Elite League was the top League - how then could the Premier League be that. Premier, by definition means Top. So they were both wrongly named in the first place.
The Promoters have recognised that and changed the names.
A good move in my opinion.
You can say that again!!!
I really thought it was going to be this year.
Never mind - back to the telly.
Surely if a Club doesn't want to go up - then they will ride to lose in the 'Play Offs'.
Yes - there will be some fun and games next Season.
They have kept 'Double Points' - so sadly I won't be there to see it.
The problem is that they seem to spend a lot of time and effort not pleasing - anyone.....................
They don't seem too bothered that they, in some ways, are driving folk away from the Sport - not attracting them as they ought to be.
My first Meeting was in 1964 - Sunderland 'Saints' v. Newcastle 'Diamonds'.
I remember a defeat for the 'Saints' (32-44) - it didn't put me off though.
I talked to Tony Mole regarding the return of Speedway to Sunderland. It did not happen - but that was not Tony Mole's fault. I found him always very courteous to talk to and very knowledgable about Speedway and business too. I admire him very much and wish him a very happy retirement.
Speedway will miss him very much.
Just a thought - people talk about an Independent overall head of Speedway in this Country - would Tony not be a very good candidate for this Post?
Just thinking...........
The only thing that you can be certain of is that they will change the Rules - - - AGAIN!!!
On the other hand - they might do something sensible and get rid of Double P{oints. :approve:
This will be a remarkable and impressive Resource.
A real labour of love.
I sincerely hope that you get all the information that you require Dave.
I'm only sorry I can't help.
I totally concur with all of the comments regarding the Updates. As many will know - I no longer attend Speedway Meetings, however, I am still interested and the Updates are invaluable to me.
I would like to thank every single Updater, Texter and particularly Sue for maintaining a service that is second to none.
Many, many thanks.
