  1. I just wish that there were no Tactical Substitutes or Tactical Rides. Why on earth can Speedway not just settle for the Result on the Track? That is what people go to watch after all. OK - some Teams will take a hammering once in a while but that's life - I should know - I follow Sunderland AFC. The fact is you would probably get more Home wins which would suit the Promoter, and the Home Riders would get more points therefore get more Pay. It would be much fairer on all Teams, as a Team that had been well beaten Away from Home would be able to gain their revenge in the return Fixture. An Away win would then be even more meritorious than it is now. You could even have, perish the thought, an extra League Point for the Team scoring the most Points over the two Meetings. This would encourage maximum effort from both Team's Riders.
  2. I couldn't agree more. Glyn was the best Trackman Redcar ever had in my humble opinion. :approve:
  3. It isn't wrong - but you have to cut your costs in some way. The sad fact is that Speedway in Britain today is in a very parlous financial state. There is not a lot of money in the Sport. Top line Riders come at a cost. It is my contention that the cost is too much to bear for some Clubs and will eventually, if persevered with, bankrupt the Sport. I believe that we can probably run British Speedway fine without the top Stars. They take far too much money as it is, from an almost impoverished Sport.
  4. Decent crowds in those days. No Double Points, no Play Offs etc. Just plain old fashioned Speedway Races with a Second Half to add to your enjoyment. The League Champions were just that - League Champions. Those were the days.
  5. Yes - unfortunately the chance to really put Speedway on the map was when SKY first came on board. I often wondered what happened to all of that money - it can't all have gone on top Number Ones.
  6. Actually - I think they do The problem is I don't think they know what to do about it.
  7. Speedway isn't a Pub. However I agree with the main thrust of your argument. Quite how you would change Speedway though - I am not too sure. Certainly a number of Rules need changing. Perhaps finding a way to fill in the gaps between Races might be a start. I wish I knew the answer - but sadly I don't.
  8. Very good question. It would be very interesting to know.............
  9. I hope you will advise us on here when exactly when the Issue detailing all that went wrong at Belle Vue is definitely coming out. I will look out for a Copy and buy it.
  10. Current Formula One World Champion Nico Rosberg did retire after five days..
  11. I did have a look iris123 - but I couldn't see anything. Was the Petition included on the other ones?
  12. I have just seen this on the SGB Website and thought it worthy to share with Forum Members. There is a Petition to sign. I have taken this verbatim from the SCB Website: BRITISH Speedway fans, riders, management and officials are encouraged to sign an online petition following recent talk of new Government insurance being introduced for vehicles that could drastically impact all motor and motorcycle sport. In the landmark ‘Vnuk’ case, the European Court of Justice ruled in 2014 that the EU’s 2009 Motor Insurance Directive required insurance policies to cover all possible third-party accidents in all places and at all times. In some countries, including the United Kingdom and Ireland, governments had interpreted the law as meaning that it only applies to vehicles driven on public roads, however it is now clear that the judgment means that national laws must be changed to ensure that all mechanically propelled vehicles are insured for third-party losses regardless of type of use, in all places, at any time. This applies to everything from Formula One racing cars, to mobility scooters, to antique trams and everything in-between. Industry experts have already claimed that the risks associated with providing insurance cover to all motorised vehicles mean that they would be prohibitively expensive to insure, thus effectively outlawing all motorsport activities across the United Kingdom. HM Government opened a consultation on Wednesday 21st December with two clear options. First, to pursue the “Comprehensive option” which would involve changing UK motor insurance law to comply with the Motor Insurance Directive as interpreted in the Vnuk judgement. Second, the Government’s preferred “Amended Directive option” which would involve changing UK law on motor insurance to implement the Motor Insurance Directive as amended, should the European Commission pursue its proposal to amend it. While the United Kingdom remains a member of the European Union, the UK is obligated to make this change. We, the undersigned petition HM Government through the Secretary of State for Transport, The Rt. Hon. Chris Grayling, M.P., asking that HM Government under no circumstances implements the 'Vnuk' judgement in a way that encompasses vehicles involved in motor and motorcycle sport activities. Full details are available here: http://www.fightvnuk.co.uk Please sign the petition here: http://bit.ly/2i6Cgsf This petition will be delivered to: Secretary of State for Transport, The Rt. Hon. Chris Grayling. Share This: I have just signed.
  13. I am going to see my Solicitor. I never gave permission for my morning excercise to be filmed and put on here.
  14. No Barry Hearne then. How about Richard Hearne - this being Speedway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36N9CUhIG7s
  15. Having had dealings with him in the past - I found him to be a complete gentleman. He tells it as it is, and, to us anyway, was totally honest. He certainly does, as you say, deserve a happy retirement.
  16. 'Sprouts' Elder. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=43550116
  17. But would letting go be in their best interests? It might be in Speedway's best interests - but crucially every Promoter has money in their business (their Track) so what incentive would there be for them 'letting go'?
  18. I love SPAM me!!! Especially Spam Fritters. :approve:
