  1. I would have thought the most sensible decision would be at the Weekend if you want to maximise your Support. People have work commitments, school runs and many other things to do on a weekday. Anyway - I sincerely hope you get a huge turnout whenever you have it.
  2. But they still do have the old Stadium.
  3. Hear, hear!!! :approve: Well said scarletrider.
  4. You surprise me hagonshocker - could you please explain your remark. I just don't understand why the two Teams can't run together. Unless it is geographical and Oxford is too close to Swindon for the area to support two Tracks. They seemed to run together years ago.
  5. How very true. We always lost there. From memory I don't think Jack ever let us down there. :approve:
  6. Have you been to Brough Park or Redcar - now they really can be cold. In fact they can be bloody cold. I have fffffffffrozen my bits off at both venues at times.
  7. Ron Wilson at Teeside always reckoned that Jack Millen put 500 on the Gate whenever he visited Teeside with Sunderland. I know he rode for Crewe - but he had his best years at Sunderland.
  8. Clever that. It made me laugh anyway.
  9. I don't want to rain on your parade - but Max Fricke is Australian. He might just be insulted if you called him British. They can be touchy about things like that. :D
  10. I think that is very harsh salty. gustix Posts some very interesting Threads if you are interested in the History of Speedway. I love the tales from years ago before I took an interest in the Sport. gustix has a great knowledge of those days - and - as I say, I very much enjoy reading his comments.
  11. Every time I look in the mirror I feel 10 years older - so you must be right. Shavings a nightmare though.
  12. My opinion is that Belle Vue were the best. (I must declare an interest in fairness - I do support Belle Vue). However - it is all about opinions and I respect ls's view even though I don't agree with him. It is a pity though - that there is no definative answer.
  13. No - but it all goes to add to the flavour. Of course I would say that - I was a big fan of the late Jack Millen (Crazy Jack, Mad Jack, Millen the Villain). When Jack was riding against Frank Auffret (Teeside) their clashes were legendary. We still talk about them today. There were many more true characters in those days - Taffy Owen, Doug Wyer, Tony Childs, Arthur Browning, George Major - I could go on. Characters are needed in Speedway - Niki Pedersen, as has been said, seems to be the only one left these days. The Sport has become too sanitized - to it's cost.
  14. I can only wish all Oxford Supporters the very best of luck with this. It is really nice to see something positive about our Sport for once. I like the idea that people living nearby like the idea too. As I say - I wish Oxford well. :approve:
  15. The last time was at Redcar. Can't remember the year but from memory Jade Mudgeway rode for us. I may well come down to watch a 'Sunderland' Team ride for old time's sake.
  16. I sincerely hope that neither of these scenarios occur. Should they do so - Speedway will be in the brown and sticky stuff. I hate to think what could happen were that to be the case. I do think it would be a very good idea if Promoters made Plans for the time when there is no televised Speedway. That way they just might be able to mitigate against the problem. They would be prepared before it happens.
  17. If England played a Cricket Match against Pakistan they would fill the place to overflowing. Just saying......................... :D
  18. For the good of the Sport - that may be the best outcome. It may make folk go out to watch their Speedway instead of just sitting in an armchair. Just a thought.......
  19. You make a very fair point. The problem is that you have to cover your expenses. Any Promoter must first of all cover his costs. With so few people attending Speedway these days I don't understand how they can reduce prices. Stadium Rental (in some cases)., Rider Payments, Staff Payments, First Aid, Ambulances etc.. All of these things and more have to be paid before the Promoter makes a penny. It is also rumoured that many Tracks are actually losing money. If that is true - then how can you ask Promoters to reduce Prices and, very probably, lose even more money. Much as I would like it - I do not think that is a feasible way to solve the problem of getting more folk through the Gate. I don't even pretend to have the answers, but to me, reducing Prices in the current Financial climate would be committing Financial suicide.
