You are right. But Speedway really does excel at it. Certainly Speedway is better at it than most.

He is well worth hanging on to at present. I hope this continues and he goes on to do well for the 'Bears' in the years to come. With his problem, he needs careful handling. He seems to be getting that at Redcar. Well done to Kevin Keay and his Promotion Team on that.

I would suggest that the only other place to hold a GP other than Cardiff is the National Speedway Stadium. I believe that Cardiff is undoubtedly the best Venue. If, however, Great Britain were to get another Grand Prix then, to me, the only option would be Manchester. I know the Crowds would be nowhere near Cardiff but as far as I am concerned it is the only real alternative.

I just mentioned Wimbledon because we are on the Wimbledon Thread. Really I was expressing my view regarding somewhere like Sunderland. The Stadium where Speedway took place at Sunderland in 1964, and from 1971 to 1974, is still there, still a fair distance from Housing and has been much improved over the intervening years. That is why I think that keeping the name out there is important.

Keeping the name in the Speedway arena is useful in that Promoters, who may be looking for new venues, may be tempted to give said Track another go. If they are not aware of somewhere, or it's History, then they may not even consider Sunderland, Wimbledon or anywhere else. It also demonstrates that there are folk in said area who already know about Speedway - even after a gap of over forty years. It is probably a forlorn hope I know, but still worth doing.
