  1. In this instance it was problems with the Track that caused the delay at the Start of the Meeting.
  2. Well said that man!! Len Silver is a true Speedway man - I doubt if there is anyone currently in Speedway who has put as much effort in to the Sport as he has over the years. :approve:
  3. Very sad some of the comments on here. At Sunderland this is the FORTIETH year without Speedway. We have had no Promoter to rave at. I am not saying that you should accept poor Racing but surely if a big enough Group of you got together and approached the Promoter he would have to listen to your concerns. I was delighted when Leicester got it's own Track and all this talk of folk walking away is very depressing. I have never been to Leicester so please forgive my interjection but, as you know, you can be a very long time without Speedway. I wish Leicester Speedway well in the future.
  4. I understand that facilities for Training and Mechanical School (for want of a better name) will be at Belle Vue. So if that is so, and it is available to ALL would be Riders throughout the Country - then it is indeed a NATIONAL Stadium. Also - if holding Big Meetings there, International Matches, SWC etc. - then I think the name 'National Stadium' is pretty good and not the misnomer that you imply. It is certainly NOT a Marketing gimmick.
  5. You are way out of line with the above Post Backless. I am used to reading your cynical Postings, rarely if ever do you Post anything positive. Why do you have to be so nasty? There is absolutely no need for it. I happen to like the idea that Tony has put forward and would probably by a copy of the resulting Book. Everyone is entitled to their views - you don't like the idea - I have no problem with that but others may like to contribute to the proposed Book - why shouldn't they? Tony has produced some excellent Books in the past - I am sure this new one will be just as good. Oh!! I am not a GOAT by the way. Best of Luck with the Book Tony. Don't be put off by folk like this.
  6. I know Rochdale was in effect Belle Vue second Team with Peter Collins etc. riding for them - but - to be honest I can't remember about Ellesmere Port being a Feeder Club. I am prepared to admit - it is my memory, it's not what it used to be. AGE you know.
  7. I remember John Jackson from his Crewe 'Kings' days. A superb Rider, I always enjoyed watching him.
  8. Edited by Boobs worries me a little. On a serious Note - I hope it is a great night of Speedway and the Promoters make a packet - it's no more than they deserve. :)
  9. If you are quoting from one of Ernie Wise's Play - you could at least give him the Credit.
  10. ........... and most importantly - the Presentations.
  11. We all moan about the demise of TeamGB (horrid name) but these days it is difficult to blame the Team Manager. A Team Manager is only as good as the Riders he can put out on the Track and currently we don't have enough of these for our International Team to shine. Sorry - not the Manager's fault (Middlo) - lack of real talent is the problem.
  12. Len Silver was always great entertainment back in the Seventies. When he opened Sunderland Speedway back in 1971 he always came on the Centre Green at Boldon with his Microphone and announced "Good afternoon everyone and welcome to 'SANNY SANDERLAND' - - even when it was pouring with rain.
  13. A very good point that - so good in fact that it was obviously worthy of repeating.
  14. MOST appropriate if you ask me. Very best of luck with this venture. :approve:
