  1. Why not Speedway World Cup one year and a Speedway World Best Pairs the next and so on? Alternate years - I think that would be good. Thoughts anyone?
  2. Will Cooke be Banned for our Meeting at Newcastle on Sunday?
  3. He took Drugs - that is illegal and wrong. END OF!!! Oh - and since when do you get Fined up for drinking a couple of pints?
  4. I don't usually Quote my own Posts - but - I thought it was appropriate here. I wish I had put some money on the Result.
  5. No - I haven't been to Leicester Speedway Gemini. I am sure I read somewhere that the mounds of soil/mud, when there is enough of it, will be smoothed and landscaped in to a bank that will help prevent noise becoming a problem to the Club's neighbours.
  6. Obviously Michael has been under a lot of strain - but - there can be no excuse for Drug Taking. I find this all rather sad. A brilliant - but - flawed genius. I sincerely hope that he can get his life back together again.
  7. If I am wrong - then I bow to your superior knowledge.
  8. To become a Baffle Bank I believe - to reduce the noise for the Speedway's neighbours.
  9. I reckon that even a '2-Valve' Laydown would be cheaper to maintain than the current '4-Valve'. Cheaper to service too. From a Rider safety point of view - this has not been mentioned so far - I think that the '2-Valves' were a LOT less dangerous to their Riders than the '4-Valve'. I do NOT believe that the Development of the '4-Valve' Engine has been of any benefit to Speedway at all. On the contrary I think it is that more than anything that has put our Sport in to the parlous state that it now finds itself.
  10. I totally agree with this. Rider wages too have increased beyond reason. I still maintain that it is Equipment and Engine Tuners that are far too expensive - particularly for a young person trying to enter the Sport as a Rider. The '4-Valve' Revolution started all of this chase for faster and faster and more powerful Engines. I believed at the time the Sport should have stuck with '2-Valve' Engines - because it didn't we are reaping the consequences now. I know that people will say that I am a dinosaur - but - the far more expensive '4-Valve' Engine has not increased the times of the Races that much - but - HAS increased the costs within the Sport out of all comparison to the so called benefits (speed) they bring. Without all of the questionable Developments within Speedway the Costs could have been kept down, the Ticket Price could have been kept down and a lot more people would be coming through the Gate today. Sadly - things are as they are.
  11. Personally I may be tempted to buy a Brick. I would not even consider it until the construction of the proposed Stadium was under way. I am optimistic that the new Stadium will be built - BUT - I will wait and see. I do agree that there should be more information put in to the Public domain by the promoters.
  12. I forecast ages ago that when the Government 'Cuts' finally struck home everything and everyone would suffer. Speedway is not immune from this. I think that this is an excellent topic because, as has already been said, Speedway always drew it's Support from the so called 'Working Class'. The problem is that Development Costs, Laydown Engines, Bike Parts etc. have now outstripped Speedway's Target Audience. Bikes and Accessories cost so much more these days, Engine Tuners charge a small fortune to Service an Engine. In the old days - the Rider and his Mechanic sorted that out. Costs have HAD to increase disproportionately in order to keep up with the Development Costs. To my mind these are a few of the reasons why Speedway finds itself with the problems it faces today. I would not presume to say what a Fair, Value for Money Price would be for a Speedway Meeting (because I don't know) but if you Price the Product too high for your 'Target Audience' you are on the road to disaster - as we are finding out.
  13. You know - the BSPA can't win can it? This is a VERY positive move to raise the Profile of Speedway in this Country. Nearly everyone on here including me have slammed the Promoters over this, that and the other. We accuse them of being useless, rubbish and full of self interest. Political influence is very important even if, like me, you don't have a lot of use for Politicians. There are many ways that Speedway can benefit from a Political tie up like this. An example would be the smoothing of the way, in certain areas, to open new Tracks. Do you think that Football has no Political influence because I can tell you it does - you can see it from time to time on the Television. I wish this venture every success and I hope that it will bring many benefits to Speedway. We have to be FAIR. Give the BSPA a chance over this one - if the initiative fails - well nobody can say that they have not tried. If it succeeds then we all may be the beneficiaries as our Sport struggles to recover from it's many problems.
  14. It would have been had Denmark not been fiddled out of it.
  15. In the HOPE that it might well help Speedway to improve and kick on in this Country. If you are going to ask that - then why spend even bigger shed loads of money on the Olympics last year. Oops - I would probably agree with you there.
  16. Of course not Oldace - I would have thought that you would have taken that as read.
  17. I just hope for a good and safe Meeting for ALL Riders on BOTH Teams. 45-45 for me.
  18. Thank you for that update Philip. Is there any reason that you know of why Belle Vue are not giving folk regular updates? This is an historic Event for both Belle Vue and for British Speedway - I would have thought that it would be in the interests both the Belle Vue Promoters and the BSPA to encourage enthusiasm among Speedway's Supporters. We do not have a lot to Celebrate these days - the building of a brand new British Speedway Stadium would really give folk a sense of optimism for the future.
  19. I sincerely hope that you are wrong Pandorum. I must admit that the lack of up to date information is worrying - but - I will continue to believe that it is going to happened until it is confirmed by Belle Vue that it is not.
  20. Me too Ray - but it is a great shame it has to be like that. I like sensible debate and am prepared to be proved wrong - I believe if you enter in to a Debate you have to accept that you are not always right. Where possible I would far rather keep things friendly.
