  1. I reckon that if all the people who got in for 'nowt' at Sunderland back in the 'Seventies' had paid to get in we would have lasted a lot longer than we did. I say this as someone who worked at the Track and on the Starting Gate at Meetings and who also Paid to get in. This was true of a lot of the Staff at Sunderland. We were unpaid, did not get Free Tickets (we were offered them and refused) because we wanted the Speedway to continue. We loved our Sport and our Team. I think that the 'Hangers On' cost us our Track just as much as the lack of Support following a VERY disastrous start to the 1974 Season.
  2. I believe it is because the Warders/Guards don't allow it.
  3. I understood, from comments on other Threads, that 'a Promoter' had 'leaked' the fact that the Deal was done and that SKY were showing Speedway on their Channels in the new Season.
  4. Seriously good value. Congratulations to the Peterborough Promotion for giving their Supporters affordable Speedway - let's hope other Tracks do the same in these times of austerity. :approve:
  5. Good old Len Silver - he can still teach folk a thing or two. :approve:
  6. Shocking Post. Totally uncalled for. Live and let live I say. In this 'Season of Goodwill' could we not try to practice some of it on here.
  7. I thought Richard Hall went well around the East of England Showground.
  8. But League Racing is the bread and butter of BRITISH Speedway. BSI (owners of the GP Series) do not, as far as I know, plough any of the money made from the Grand Prix Series back in to Speedway - either British, Swedish, Polish or Danish. It is all pure Profit for them. They put on a good Show - but crucially - the ONLY people to make money out of the GPs are BSI. This is one of the main reasons that I am so against the GP Series - it is a business venture rather than a Sport. .............................. and that is what I quoted. Oh! and I didn't read it wrong. Perhaps YOU read MY Post wrongly though. :)
  9. You certainly gave me a shock. I thought I'd missed something. :)
  10. If you are directing this Post at me I will be only too happy to explain. I never mentioned Leathers. You stated that, in your opinion, the Speedway World Cup has it almost rite (sic) I was having a play on the word 'Joker', you know, the stupid System that rewards failure in the S.W.C. That's all. If THAT is what you call getting it right - then heaven help Speedway.
  11. That is the big question. I have been concerned about that too. Perhaps someone who knows about these things could enlighten us??
  12. Totally agree with BOTH of those sentiments E I Addio. I would like also to wish for a SAFER Season than last year with much reduced injuries. Ideally I'd prefer no injuries at all - but - due to the nature of the Sport - THAT is an enormous ask. GOOD LUCK AND GOOD HEALTH TO ALL OF THE RIDERS IN ALL OF THE LEAGUES.
  13. Elite League snob is actually a misnomer as from now. The Elite League Supporter has absolutely NOTHING to be snobbish about - especially not now that it is Elite/NATIONAL League. At least at Premier League level we will see fifteen Heats of reasonably matched Riders. The Elite/NATIONAL League however - is now clearly an inferior product, therefore, the Term Elite League 'SNOB' is no longer relevant or justified......
  14. ................................... aaaaaahhhhh - now you are getting there. :approve: :approve:
  15. The best ten Riders that I have actually seen in action would be: 1) Barry Briggs 2) Ivan Mauger 3) Malcolm Simmons 4) Ronnie Moore 5) Martin Ashby 6) Jason Crump 7) Tony Rickardsson 8) Tomasz Gollob 9) Ray Wilson 10) Zenon Plech These are in no particular order by the way.
  16. I was talking about the bastardisation of the English Language actually.........................................
