  1. I asked this question a while ago steve - nobody answered it. IF SKY was so good for Speedway - why have Gates gone down in the last FIFTEEN Years and not up. Fifteen years being the length of time Speedway has been broadcast. You would have thought that if our Sport showcasing on SKY was doing the job of getting Speedway in to the General Public's eye - that Gates would have gone UP!! It patently obviously hasn't. Sadly.
  2. You don't really think SKY gives a toss about that do you? As long as their schedules are filled - they couldn't care less.
  3. Freebies probably. Seriously - some will be Staff etc. But ALL of them.......................................................????? I believe ALL Riders and former Riders are issued with a Rider's Pass that entitles them to Free Entry. Quite right too - they have earned it over the years. THAT'S my opinion anyway.
  4. Well- I'm glad you put the - for a moment - I thought you might mean ME!!! ;) Well said orion - I totally agree with you (for once ). I don't need to ask which one - I suspect.
  5. You MAY have to wait until the Tapes go up for the first Meeting to make up your mind then. The Advance Publicity is APPALLING!!!
  6. Thank you for that the Abbott. I couldn't seem to find it. :approve:
  7. THANK YOU for mentioning me Jacques. I WILL be signing up for this straight away. Seem right up my Street. All the best. Victor (Meldrew)
  8. I'm sure there is a Thread containing this elsewhere.
  9. Fair question gustix. Virtually nil I would think sadly. One can however live in hope.
  10. You can borrow mine......................................................
  11. Philip Rising will be sending you a Brown Envelope shortly.
  12. Or until they are told. That's not Journalism - that's acting as a mouthpiece. Whatever happened to good old Investigative Journalism?
  13. ..................... and there you have it. Good Post GC.
  14. But, surely that is what Investigative Journalism is all about.
  15. Exactly screm - but I think the SS should be investigating things like that. Don't you?
  16. A good investigation in to the new Television Deal would be a start.
  17. As I see it - Speedway has been on the Television now for about FIFTEEN YEARS. The Sport itself has not improved one iota as a spectacle. Television has actually diminished our Sport with the Rules the BSPA has brought in at the behest of the Television Companies. This is proved by the fact that Speedway Support is sadly decreasing and not increasing. It can only harm the Sport if folk are encouraged to 'stay in' and watch their Speedway on Television. Speedway desperately NEEDS people to come through the Gates, at present this is NOT happening. Why? Because of Austerity Cuts (in my opinion the main reason), Television (it is far easier to watch Speedway from your armchair), Alteration of Rules (you know what THEY are), Lack of Promotion (at some Tracks), Lack of LEADERSHIP at the BSPA and finally and, again sadly, the lack of any truly International Class Riders (apart from Tai Woofinden - even HE cannot carry the Sport on his own). To sum up - Speedway needs MONEY to run and be successful. The new TV Deal (if there is one) is rumoured to be possibly free of charge to SKY to get us in the public eye - why should that work now, when it hasn't for the last FIFTEEN Years? I am not against Television per sé - I just do not see where the benefits of fifteen years of TV coverage are. Simply, as far as I can see, there aren't any.
  18. Fair comment Dave. But I honestly believe that we spend too much time freezing our 'bits and pieces' off on a cold March/April Night whilst Riders go back to the Pits for whatever reason following a Tape break or a false Start. Nobody seems to think or care about the Folks who pay to get in - as long as they attend. It should NOT take two hours to run a Meeting of Fifteen Heats and Fifteen Minutes Racing. Just GET ON WITH IT for heavens sake.
  19. This is one way Speedway Promoters could get a grip. There are far too many people who get in to Speedway Tracks for NOTHING. This has been going on for as long as I have been going to Speedway (forty years) and must have been going on long before that. Every person who gets in free - apart from those who are entitled to - is putting another nail in Speedway's coffin. I honestly believe that ALL freebies should be stopped apart from Promotional Events. Speedway simply cannot afford freeloaders.
  20. Nearly ALL Threads deviate from the original subject at times Henry. Folk end up discussing something that has come up because of the Original Thread Title. They usually drift back on to Topic eventually. To have folk slavishly sticking to the Subject would oft be boring and would put people off. I don't think we should go down the road of denying people the right to take the Thread where it will as long as it doesn't get silly. I have found this Discussion on Scottish Banknotes extremely interesting and educative. YOU/anyone can always bring a Thread back on Track if you wish by Posting something relevant to the Thread Title. WE DON'T WANT TO BE OVER MODERATED.
