Wake Up Plymouth
The White Knight replied to DexterBeauregarde's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
You purport to be a Plymouth 'Devils' Supporter. I maintain you are NOT!!! Supporting your Team is more than just watching it win week to week, or alternatively lose. It is about involvement. You don't go often enough to get involved. You make judgement on ONE Meeting only - that can hardly be a fair judgement can it? IF your Speedway Club were getting your (and others) money each week - they could try to improve things - if they don't - then it will be finished. Then it will be YOUR fault (not on your own obviously, but you and those like you) - you will not be able to blame anyone else. If the Speedway did close I imagine you being one of those who moans - we have NO Speedway. Well - the answer is in your own hands - USE IT OR LOSE IT. Do NOT complain about those who are doing their utmost to keep Speedway alive in Plymouth. They are a great bunch. -
I'm sorry - I think they look very anemic. I thought the Peterborough Racejackets were great though. :approve: Come on Newcastle - get back to your famous and traditional Black Racejacket with big 'White' Diamond - THAT is how Speedway Supporters remember Newcastle. It was far more impressive than the somewhat pathetic effort we wear at present.

Is this what you call Supporting your Club? Well I'm sorry but it isn't mine. You support your Team through thick and thin - OK you are going through a thin time at the moment - THAT is when you Support is MOST needed. If many 'Devils' Supporters react like you - then there will probably be NO Speedway at the St. Boniface Arena next Season and that would be a tragedy. Every Track has a bad Season - you are NOT alone in that. At least you have Speedway in your City (at present) - I don't in mine - and haven't had for FORTY years. When I think of all those super Plymouth Supporters I have met at Newcastle over the last couple of years - you are letting them down as well as the Club. -
I thought HT ALWAYS wore his shorts. I was talking to him at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely bloody freezing. Couldn't help but notice that HT was still in his shorts. Hope this helps Lioness.

Well done to BOTH Teams tonight. A thoroughly entertaining Meeting with all the thrills and spills of Speedway. I thought that Robson, Henry and Lindgren did well for Newcastle, Rose tried hard and deserved more Points for his efforts. Kerr needs to get his Bikes sorted out - he was very well positioned in at least three of his rides before the gremlins struck Rosen and Schramm did OK. We were beaten by the better Team tonight. A terrific Track gave us some tremendous Racing - thank you Peterborough for preparing it so well. I think that we will probably ride worse than we did tonight Away from Home and come away with a Point or Three - Peterborough too are a very good Team. Yet another GREAT advertisement for Premier League Speedway.

..........................................................in a somewhat disgraceful manner.  -
Let's hope that the Grandstand is open when they decide to run the Fixture. It would allow even more people in. On the plus side for me personally - I then wouldn't have to go dashing down to the front so as I could see. (dashing may be a slight exaggeration ) As lots of folk who usually are in the Grandstand are congregated by the picnic tables. This is NOT a complaint - we need as many people to come to the Speedway as possible.

Not quite. But there were no expensive Vans to be paid for, no Titanium Parts for Engines etc. Most Tuning was done by the Rider, or his Mechanic. It is very easy to see why the costs for Speedway have risen so fast - what is NOT so obvious are the BENEFITS of all this extra Cost. The Racing was just as good on Two-Valve Uprights as it is today on Four-Valve 'Laydowns'. Possibly the times have improved by a second or two - but - the Racing certainly has not. Personally, I would be quite prepared to add a second to the Heat and enjoy the spectacle of four Riders hurtling around the Track on Two-Valve Engines. Cheaper to maintain, cheaper to Tune, costs in general vastly reduced and above all safer. It really is a 'no brainer' for me. -

In shape and size you could say that Tracks haven't changed since 1928. The composition has, but not the shape and size. I have said this many times on here, in the pursuit of greater speeds - the costs have risen astronomically - however - the Racing quality simply hasn't. It is still enjoyable - but crucially - it is no better as a spectacle than it was in the 'Sixties' which is as far back as I can remember, in some ways it is not as good as then.
