  1. What are you on about Eddie. Newcastle didn't have an Air Fence two Seasons ago. You can see some of it lying beside the Safety Fence. Puzzled Sunderland.
  2. Looking at the photo - the decision to call the Meeting off was the correct one. I don't want to see Riders hurt riding a Track that, even with the water taken off, would be VERY soggy.
  3. Thanks for the early warning Dave. A shame - but it has been peeing down here in Sunderland all morning - so no real surprise.
  4. Not worried yet. A bit concerned though. Early days.
  5. Was that not where the 'Black Death' started? It's just what I heard...........................................................................
  6. Not quite. But there were no expensive Vans to be paid for, no Titanium Parts for Engines etc. Most Tuning was done by the Rider, or his Mechanic. It is very easy to see why the costs for Speedway have risen so fast - what is NOT so obvious are the BENEFITS of all this extra Cost. The Racing was just as good on Two-Valve Uprights as it is today on Four-Valve 'Laydowns'. Possibly the times have improved by a second or two - but - the Racing certainly has not. Personally, I would be quite prepared to add a second to the Heat and enjoy the spectacle of four Riders hurtling around the Track on Two-Valve Engines. Cheaper to maintain, cheaper to Tune, costs in general vastly reduced and above all safer. It really is a 'no brainer' for me.
  7. In shape and size you could say that Tracks haven't changed since 1928. The composition has, but not the shape and size. I have said this many times on here, in the pursuit of greater speeds - the costs have risen astronomically - however - the Racing quality simply hasn't. It is still enjoyable - but crucially - it is no better as a spectacle than it was in the 'Sixties' which is as far back as I can remember, in some ways it is not as good as then.
  8. No - I've never passed anything on them either........................................................
  9. Rob You are usually pretty fair minded. You, on your own admission, were not at the Meeting. Well I was - and EVERYTHING stated on here by Tsunami, Arson Fire, etc. and myself is TRUE. WE KNOW WHAT WE SAW!!! I am sorry - you are wrong in this instance. Whoever told you what happened fed you incorrect information. You, of course, are free to believe what you like. Personally - I like to believe the TRUTH!!!
  10. I would say the motivational skills are essential, that plus experience.
  11. I wouldn't let YOU in at all.
  12. You are right the Abbott - there is a lot more to the job than calling at the Toss. I was being a bit flippant. Sorry.
  13. Oooooohhhhh REALLY!!! What total nonsense.. You can't say that. It is true to say that without one or two of the Decisions made by the Referee Scunthorpe might have won, it would have certainly been possible. To say with such certainty, however, that they would have won is, I am afraid, rubbish. Unless, of course, you are 'Mystic Meg'................................................................................
  14. Fair enough Dean - I concede that you know more about this than me. Thank you for your answers. :)
  15. That is the EXACT TRUTH!! I saw it exactly the same way. The Bike was parked deliberately on the racing line. A VERY dangerous and VERY stupid thing to do. Maybe Jorgensen lost his temper - we can ALL do that. I am sure that on cooler reflection he will regret his actions. That is, by far, the most sensible Post from anyone who was not there. :approve:
  16. Yes - but that could still mean that had Jason been wearing Leathers - he may not have been so badly injured. I'm just trying to get this straight in my head - I am honestly not trying to be awkward.
  17. What about the Jason Crump arm injury Dean? It was stated at the time that his Kevlars were not up to the job. It was actually stated that he would not have been so badly hurt had he been wearing Leathers. Anything that makes things safer for Riders is OK by me. I freely admit I don't know a lot about the difference between Kevlars and Leathers just that Leathers being that much thicker would, to my mind, offer better protection. If you could tell me where I am wrong in my thinking - I would appreciate it. Thanks Dean. Ian.
